That wording doesn't really clear *anything* up, at least to this unfrozen caveman. You can turn this off before the deadline, or if you've already turned it off, it'll stay off. Buuuuuut it will still interact with WhatsApp etc whether it's on or off, and you can change that in the App settings page?

Does that mean you have to turn off "share my app usage with Gemini" in every app you install on your phone? Unknown. Or is it a single setting on a page for the Gemini app (if it's even an app?)? Dunno. Or something else? Is there actually a settings page called "App"? No idea.

It seems like it might be strategic ambiguity - see also no default assumption of good faith for Google in another part of the thread.

Life has been better since I've started practicing not fighting with #emotional #trolls in #comment sections as much. Especially for hot button topics like #ai or #gender issues. Gotta fight the urge to believe that if I just keep explaining my #reasoning that eventually they'll understand my position. Off the top of my head?
1. Assume #goodfaith, until clearly proven otherwise.
2. If asked a question: answer it clearly & as helpfully as possible, avoid treating questions like statements w/ hidden meanings.
3. Ask, don't assume.
4. Don't work alone, don't make big decisions impacting many people alone. Consensus is worth the work.
5. Have a clear vision that excites everyone.

Earlier today I boosted a post from @adam_y celebrating the many different languages we see on mastodon. One corollary is that a lot of people posting in English are not native speakers and the nuances of what they write are not necessarily those of the Anglo-US-Antipodean internet. I’m a translator, and alert to the #misunderstandings I already see arising, so this is just to say don’t assume everyone uses English precisely as you do. #etiquette #LanguagePolicing #GoodFaith
