  1. Our neighbour (he bought an adjacent hectare from us) did a farm "blessing" today (priest, religious friends, holy water, it's a whole thing here).

Wife went but correctly assumed I would not be interested.

Then our farm manager came back to the house and said the blessing was done, they have food, would I like to join?

Join a large group of extremely religious people to make small talk while trying to eat decorously and deflect intrusive questions about my life?

There are so many nopes (five, to be precise) in that sentence...

Needless to say I declined politely.

  5. theguardian.com/politics/live/. "Net #migration to the #UK stood at an estimated 171,000 in the year to December 2025, down nearly a half (48%) from 331,000 in the previous 12 months, according to new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS)." And #immigration is a "hot button" #political #issue, so much so that Andy #Burnham has to jettison his #principles (if he had any) & agree with Shabana #Mahmood & her #policies on the subject?

  10. I really think it's vitally important in politics to avoid wasting time defending the actions and statements of fallible and inconsistent individuals and instead to articulate the principles by which you operate and the knowledge and reasoning that informs your view of the world, and to always try to refine that knowledge and reasoning.

The former is fickle and easily co-opted by the establishment, whereas the latter is the only way to gain some measure of resistence to such co-optation.

  15. Absolutely disagree with a non-transparent position. That is more #spyware that we have attempted to allow & are not surviving very well right now. Total #transparency is required. Even to the #enemy. Why? Because it's #principles. It's principles. Not #tactics. They can't see what they don't know.

  16. I'm not going to bother to make the argument that the #American #Revolution was a waste of time. It's easy to see that. It didn't work because it wasn't really about the #principles. It was about some white men getting free from some dick heads. So if the same approach is done now, guess what?
