The defense may still call other witnesses, however. #Blanche said in court on Thurs that the defense would like to call #BradSmith, an expert on #FederalElectionLaw, even though the judge has put strict limits on what he can testify about in this case because the jury’s job is to make findings of #fact, not #law.
Blanche said he was also weighing whether to call a small number of defense witnesses, tho he expected they would not take much time.

#MichaelCohen says he told David #Pecker, fmr publisher of #NationalEnquirer, that he had been told that the federal investigation Cohen faced would be “taken care of” by #JeffSessions, then the #UnitedStates #AttorneyGeneral. Cohen testifies that it was #Trump who told him that.

#Manochio’s testimony appears to be leading to showing the jury some of the checks that #Trump signed as he sought to reimburse #MichaelCohen in installments for the #HushMoney payment to #StormyDaniels.
The judge tells the jurors that the trial is proceeding on schedule, perhaps a little ahead of schedule, w/ prosecutors set to conclude their case in about 2 weeks.

It isn’t yet clear why prosecutors are presenting this, but it seems sketchy as hell, a clear effort to keep the checks Manochio was sending Trump outside any ofcl record by the #WhiteHouse.

#Manochio says that at some point the person she was sending checks to changed from Schiller to John McEntee.
Asked who that was, she said, "Couldn't tell ya." #McEntee was a #Trump adviser & ally who was brought back to the #WhiteHouse in early 2020 (at the end of his term), as Trump tried to restaff w/ loyalists who would assist his attempt to retain power illegally.

Prosecutors like to connect each witness to multiple other witnesses, to show that this cast of characters is an ensemble, & not just individuals who were randomly chosen to testify. Here, we're hearing about Rebecca #Manochio sending unsigned checks to #Trump through #KeithSchiller, his personal #bodyguard. #StormyDaniels just told a story in which Schiller was a character.

#Manochio testifies that #Trump & #AllenWeisselberg spoke "every day." This will be something prosecutors press to highlight the unlikelihood that Trump didn’t know he was signing off on reimbursements to #MichaelCohen.
Weisselberg, prosecutors said, worked out the details of the repayments to Cohen on Trump's behalf. We have already seen Weisselberg's handwritten notes on how exactly to repay Cohen for the #HushMoney.

Y’know when the sleazy story of trump paying off a porn star to save his campaign then covering it up came out, I felt it was the easiest of his scandals for the public to understand.
It didn’t involve any complex legal issues, just a scoundrel stepping out on his wife & newborn, and needing to keep the whole sordid tale from coming out to keep his candidacy from going down in flames — flat out election interference!
And as with every sleazy politician interfering in an election (Nixon, Edwards), it’s the coverup that caught up with him!
