All 12 jurors must agree to find #Trump #guilty in order to #convict him of any one of the #felonies w/which he has been charged: 34 counts of falsifying business records. The judge in the case, Juan M. #Merchan, repeatedly made this clear, saying in his instructions to the #jury: “Each count you consider, whether guilty or not guilty, must be #unanimous.”

If the laptop had Wi-Fi, the #jurors would have access to info about the case during #deliberations that they aren’t supposed to.
By making the point about the Wi-Fi on the record, #Merchan has protected himself from either side making an issue out of it in an appeal (or in the media).

If one of the 12 jurors is unable to continue deliberating for any purpose, an alternate steps in. They remain on site, so they can tag in if necessary. Without an alternate the case would be ruled a mistrial & it would have all been for nothing.

Trump… will undoubtedly #appeal any #conviction, a lengthy process that could take months or longer & would likely not be resolved before Election Day. In that case, he would likely remain free until the appeal is resolved.

The defense really struggled. But all it takes is one juror.
'Trump’s lawyers routinely overstepped in court, even earning a rebuke from the judge during their summation on Tuesday for improperly suggesting jurors could not send a man “to prison” based on the word of a notorious liar like #MichaelCohen.“You know that making a comment like that is highly inappropriate. It's simply not allowed,” Justice #Merchan said, calling the remark “outrageous.”

#Pecker of The National Enquirer, was part of the #CatchAndKill #conspiracy that #Colangelo described in his opening statement, w/ #Trump & #MichaelCohen.
Prosecutor Joshua #Steinglass questioned Pecker. He began by asking him basic biographical information.
At that point, #Merchan stopped testimony, to ask jurors if they'd like writing materials to take notes. At least 10 raise their hands.

Steinglass explains the concept of “accessorial liability.” He uses the same analogy he did on Tues: a husband hiring a hitman to murder his wife, he asks prospective #jurors if they would understand the husband to be #guilty of the #crime. Contumacy: A legal term that refers to a person’s refusal to follow judges’ orders or appear in court when summoned. Someone who is contumacious could be found in contempt of court. In #Bragg’s written request to expand the gag order, he asked #Merchan to warn #Trump that his “recent conduct is contumacious and direct him to immediately desist.”
