I knew this would happen... To be fair I was feeling a little sorry for myself before I went on holiday. I was putting a lot of pressure on myself which is really easy to do. Day four… Heavens remain open…
Wed 3rd June 2026 The only thing on my agenda today is the dinosaur footprints at Compton Beach. Low tide isn’t till much later this afternoon so I have a good few hours to kill. It is still quite stormy with the wind and the rain so a trip to the animal sanctuary is a bad idea. Twenty minutes later I’m in the car park looking for a payment machine. The one inside the sanctuary give a discount so I’ll use that one. Tue 2nd June 2026 Today I’m hunting for dinosaur footprints. They are apparently on the beach and are only visible at low tide. I’m going to have to wait as the tide is against me this morning. That gives me time to visit the Dinosaur Isle Museum. Depending on how long I spend there I may have time to visit the Amazon World Zoo Park too. Low tide is about 6pm but if I get to Hanover Point around 4ish I should get a parking space. First stop, Dinosaur Museum. It’s not the Natural […] -

Mon 1st June 2026 Day two of my holiday starts early. Waking up at 5am due to how warm it was in my room. The bed was comfortable enough but the duvet was a thick winter tog, not good for this time of year but I can’t expect the hotel to swap all the duvets in all the rooms, oh and it’s not technically a hotel, it’s a very nice b&b. Your comments are really stuck in my head, so here is a brain dump, untidy 2nd response:
Regarding professional use: The number of professional is not a large market share, but FreeCAD is used professionaly by architects, tradesmen (eg air con duct design and quotes), contract designers, ...and educators/video publishers.\
Pretty sure sheetmetal WorkBench is used by many commercial workshops.
There are now several PLM addons, also showing growing professional interest....and FreeCAD is now so good, that there are scam sites and other sites are rebranding it and selling it.
Just released 1.1 ....based on when NO BLOCKING issues remained, ie zero blocking issues.
FC Needs focus??? Look at the events calender and follow through to see meeting discussion and outcomes!
FC under v active dev/improvement: See WIP Wed
Actively backporting to PRs to v1.1 dozens/100s??
Good first issues
How many issues listed are related to dev/weekly versions, ie NOT to released v1.1?

Back to using Sway on NixOS with Home Manager. It was the same combo that sort of burned me out on nixos last year, but I've got a bit more confidence now in the whole stack to make it work. I love the i3/sway way of doing things, and I can't really get the same experience anywhere else, so it's back WMs for a while.
This time, I'll experiment with writing my dotfiles in their native format before delegating home manager to hold onto their state, I'll ask home manager to do less overall so it doesn't do dumb things like step on my gtk config on every rebuild, and I'll slowly build the system up over a longer period of time instead of like in a weekend.
Slower, simpler, and hopefully less nixos-rebuild switch calls.
I'm also using nwg shell for the common UI components and settings managers, which is fantastic by the way. It solves needing to learn an entire esoteric config language for every program in your system, and the final look and feel is very cohesive. Nwg-panel has me sold on just that alone.

Complexity
‘AI’ are emerging properties from a stupidly complex system. Nobody has the faintest idea of where this properties emerge from.
Even funnier, nobody has any theory of how they work, as in, no one has a valid model of them.
As complex as they may be, LLMs are still a far cry from any decent biological brain like structure.

The family reunion [for my adoptive family] is this weekend. The last time I attended a reunion was probably in 2007. I got married in 2008. I never had a spouse or boyfriend or friend to attend with me. Cousins within my age bracket rarely ever attended & if they did, they either hid away reading a book or were very much better than I at small talk, connecting with distant relatives they probably won't see again till next year. My grandmother was alive & I attended most of the reunions with her. I wanted to. Reunions were typically held at a state park where I could go on brief walks, hikes, play with a camera without making others [or me] feel weird. Late last year, I learned I have biological half-siblings... I'm not going to the a-family reunion this year, though it's been years... it somehow seems so wrong that I would be attending yet another family reunion without my siblings.

The thing with depression, everyone tells you that you are not alone, but at the end of the day you are alone.
It’s your problem, your life, you also don’t want to be an issue for others and let them live their life. You don’t want to be this person who complains and talks about yourself only.
This feeling when you are alone with your pain, extreme pain is just no words can describe.

1. Ich glaube (ich hoffe) ich habe gerade einem Menschen das Leben gerettet. Auf dem Weg von HS zu Bus war ein verzweifelter, alkoholisierter Mann auf die Straße gerannt mit dem erkennbaren Wunsch sich umzubringen. Ich und Mitstudi haben ihn von der Straße geholt. Er sagte er habe eine gebrochene Schulter, aber er wurde aus dem KH geworfen. Rettungsdienst und Polizei wurden abgelehnt. Keine Hilfsangebote niedrigschwellig verfügbar, also haben wir ihn nach Hause gebracht.
