  1. Tip of the day: Access to external AI is an optional part of #DEVONthink and now #DEVONthinkToGo. But some people have wondered, “Well, what would I actually use it for?” On the Mac Power Users forum, a user posted her real-world use case, which is an excellent example for AI use. #artificialintelligence #pkm #productivity #tipoftheday #workflow devontechnologies.com/blog/202

  3. Progress update.

Do I support Markdown headings? Considering making them bold and be done with it.

    Latest learnings.

    • Restraint of adding functionality is a hard to master.
    • The subpixel layout shifts and slightly unexpected patterns is what makes software feel less trustworthy.
    • It's intuitive when you delete a = (highlight) on one side, the other also disappears.
    • Parent child item relations are more confusing than you'd expect.
    • Managing undo and redo is REALLY hard.
    • Having two 'modes' (browse and edit) is a necessary evil. I'm not happy with it.
    • Safari is a weird beast with a lot of bugs and quirks.
    • Personal apps on iPhone is practically impossible.

  6. Tip of the day: Sometimes we get asked about having a #DEVONthink database that can be copied for reuse, e.g., when creating a yearly database. Simply copying a database should not be done for technical reasons, but you can create a set of objects as a template to populate a new database. Here is, how that works. #pkm #productivity #tipoftheday #workflow devontechnologies.com/blog/202

  10. Actively looking for things I can take away now. Feature creep is real. Even in early versions.

    • All expected outliner functionality and shortcuts.
    • One database file that you store wherever you want.
    • Local sync via network.
    • Block-based backlinks.
    • Search per page and block.

  13. I'm working on better understanding Conflict-free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs) for my app. It's only the technology that lets you make a Google Drive doc with a bunch of other people simultaneously, so how difficult could it be, right? It only upends everything you think you know about files, no big deal :)

June has flown by it seems, and that means Junited-2026 has come to an end. This initiative by Robert has got me reading a lot more blogs this month (and I actually missed two weeknotes…) I’d thoroughly enjoyed discovering new bloggers and was in a “consuming mode” for most the month.

  18. Old but gold: Sometimes a notetaking app should stay a notetaking app. The beauty of #Obsidian is that it can be anything you want. But should it be anything? One thing I realised when trying to manage my tasks in Obsidian is that a)I was spending too much time managing the task workflows b) it was distracting me from note taking and keeping c) as a result, I was using Obsidian more as a task manager instead of a tool to help me learn.

  22. When you're fed-up with all the complicated #PKM software so you build your own.

  23. When you're fed-up with all the complicated #PKM software so you build your own.

  24. I've been slowly building out personal AI workflows to make my life easier, and one of the missing pieces was getting AI to write/query my notes in Obsidian.

I want to be able to interact cleanly with my notes in Claude Desktop, Claude Mobile and agents like Hermes and NanoClaw.

So I vibe-coded an MCP server for Obsidian:

    **Obsidian MCP**
    github.com/jclement/obsidian-m

It relies on Obsidian's sync package to do the heavy lifting, and adds a set of MCP tools on top of that. It uses Passkeys as god intended. Easy containerized deployment.

The real magic happens when you combine it with other MCP servers. I also threw together an Azure DevOps MCP server because the Microsoft one is local-only, and I wanted something I could use remotely from Claude on my phone.

    **Azure DevOps MCP**
    github.com/jclement/azure-devo

    A common workflow now is:

"Look at DevOps and summarize my activity into my Daily notes"
"Turn project XYZ in my notes into a real PBI and tasks in DevOps"

If you're curious (or feeling brave 😅 with your DevOps credentials), I have a prototype HTTP instance of the DevOps MCP running here.

    adomcp.onewheelgeek.net

Would I point production agents at a random guy's server on the Internet? Probably not. I trust me, but you probably shouldn't. But it's there if you want to kick the tires.

Hopefully it's useful for someone else.

  26. Fern 🪴 v1.5.0 is born! 💖 It brings Keybinding "presets" for many of the major text editor families. Now, you can switch to a preset "base layer" for #Vim, #Emacs, #Helix and #VSCode (ie. GUI-like editors. Called it 'arrows'. Sorry, not sorry. lmao). Custom keybindings in your config file take precedence and are layered over the base presets.

    Big thanks to
@[email protected] for their feedback that lead to the idea and gave me the motivation to crank on it!
