  1. Late last week, I saw someone talking about adding something to open source websites that sounded exactly like the webrings from the 90s/2000s, and I promised to make the first steps of a personal knowledge management webring. That's live now at brainframe.tech/going-beyond-b and I'd love to turn it into a real webring, not just a list of links on my own app's site. Let me know if you want to join or collaborate in some fashion.

  2. I've long been interested in #ToolsForThought and #ToolsForCollaboration, but lately I've begun to wonder why nobody pays attention to #ToolsForFeeling or #ToolsForBeing, and what those might look like.

  3. Tried something different with The Wealth of Nations—built a reader instead of just reading it.

Inspired by Karpathy’s idea of interacting with text using LLMs:

    My latest vibecoding experiment:

Classic texts are dense. Linear reading feels… limiting.

This is an attempt to turn reading into something more interactive, exploratory—almost conversational.

    Less “consume”, more “engage”.

  4. So I've been working on an AI assistant for Logseq, a note taking app. Think of this like a "Cursor for Logseq".

I'm quite happy as to where it's at right now, but I have a long way to go.

  5. Do you have a half-baked idea for tinkering with your personal knowledge management system #pkm? Maybe it's an idea for an #Obsidian plugin, local #RAG over your notes, or a much overdue Notion database rehaul? Stop by at the #ToolsForThought hack day on Sunday, November 16th. luma.com/h2mjbhjf

  6. What I really need is a tricycle for the mind. Or training wheels.

  7. I follow quite a lot of the #toolsForThought / #toolsForCollaboration space, and it never ceases to amaze/baffle/puzzle me how many of the tools in that space are Apple-only. How the fuck do you expect to collaborate with people who don't live in the Apple Walled Garden if your tools are MacOS only?

  8. Tools for thought ≠ just apps.

PKM isn’t new—and it isn’t just digital. From notebooks to mind maps, analog tools still play a powerful role in how we think, write, and learn.

Don’t let shiny new toys and apps distract from solid thinking and meaning making.

  9. Trying to decide: Obsidian.md or Logseq — which one is the ultimate tool for knowledge management and note-taking?

Both have their strengths, but I’m curious:
Which do you use and why?
Pros, cons, hidden features — let’s discuss!

  11. Celebrating NENO's 5th birthday today with a new major version v10.0.0 🎉

There's a new navigation rail, new scripting view, improved accessibility (labels and focus indicators) and lots of small improvements.

  12. Many of us have been on this quest for years now. #toolsforthought have to be multi-player to support the networked orgs that exist throughout our family, personal, and professional lives.

  13. I wrote recently about #AI for IA (intelligence augmentation) and it looks like Stanford is paying attention. ;-)

"We encourage the university to view goals in this space in line with the philosophy of Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI) to make sure that the use of AI is centered on improving the human condition. Thus, we prefer to focus on “augmenting human capabilities” versus “replacing humans.”"

  14. Prompt: With concepts of extended mind, cultural technologies, augmentation of human intellect, work of David Chalmers, Doug Engelbart, Howard Rheingold, Robert K. Logan, Alison Gopnik in mind, describe in detail how large language models can be used as tools for thought. Include examples & skills necessary to learn in order to master this use of large language models.

  15. Throwback to Feb 2020 👀, when I first started designing StoryAI–a textual low-code editor.

After struggling to explain how the editing should "feel", I ended up having to dust off my After Effects skills one weekend to draw this up!

  16. I thought Brexit was a pretty dunderheaded self-own, but what's going on in the US is just orders of magnitude more stupid.

I've always thought that computers (#PersonalComputing, #ToolsForThought) should enable us to think better, to cooperate better, to communicate better. Instead the evidence seems to be that networking them together was a Bad Idea and has made us collectively more stupid than ever in human history. Or perhaps we were always that stupid, only now we have a light on it.
