  1. An application’s icon is typically considered as just something to click on to launch it. However, many developers add information and commands to the context menu of an app’s Dock icon, and DEVONthink is no exception. Here is a quick overview of what you’ll find there. #devonthink #mac #macos #notetaking devontechnologies.com/blog/202

  2. Spot the difference, without the guesswork. 🔍
With Joplin’s Diff View plugin, you can compare notes, see what changed, and easily resolve conflicts.

  3. Interestingly, I skipped unlinked mentions in favor of these real-time underlining of pages that you might want to link.

But now, while dogfooding Mimir, I realize that it's actually important to have the unlinked mentions in a page. Because the pages might have not existed before I wrote. Defeating the whole point on linking ideas.

🤷‍♂️ You live and learn. I was trying to find some creative solutions. Ones  that are not just putting the unlinked mentions in the backlinks panel.

But, there's actually nothing that I can think of. I've been sketching all afternoon. So they're going in a nice collapsable in the backlinks panel.

  4. I spent half an hour in obsidian creating summary page, categorising, and linking all my tasting and cooking notes; labour intensive and there should be a better way for this un-necessity.

I might even need to sort out the attachment folder, which is a mess right now.

    Maybe I'm a nerd.

  5. Absorb knowledge faster with Osmosis: an Obsidian plugin that turns your notes into mind maps you study with spaced repetition. 🧠 🕸️

I've been working on this project for a while now and it's finally ready (enough) to share.

  6. Is your note collection making or unmaking the world? A reflection on institutional collecting, personal note archives, and why output matters more than input.

  7. Tip of the day: If you’ve ever needed to consolidate content from multiple documents into one, you likely have used copy and paste. But if you make edits, they have to be made to all involved files. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could keep the documents separated but show them as a single document? 8.

  9. Tip of the day: Callouts are a #Markdown feature for highlighting tips, notes, or important information as text blocks — familiar from textbooks or online tutorials, for example. #DEVONthinkToGo also supports them in your #Markdown documents. Here is how to use them. #notetaking #tipoftheday devontechnologies.com/blog/202

  11. Going back to more analogue techniques and interested in those that use paper notebooks 📓 📒 (note taking):

    - What are your favorite notebooks?
    - What size are you using? (I am looking at A5 currently)
    - Are you using a mechanical pencil?

  12. Do you ever feel there’s too many ready-made answers that don’t fit your needs? Me too. That’s why I’m exploring an alternative: ’living questions’. Not quite Rilke, but also not not Rilke.

I’ve always loved the idea of an outliner, yet I have to find one that doesn’t require a course to figure out. Or isn't just plain ugly.
In 2016, I started a career in UI/UX. This year, I’ve started my passion project: Mimir. An outliner and expression of everything I’ve learned since then.

Mimir is deliberately limited, yet not stunted. Users can make and add oEmbed widgets per block. They can use the URI for power functions. The rest of the features should be easily understood.

    There’s ✅:

    • A journal view and loose pages
    • Wikilinking and showing backlinks
    • Block-level referencing
    • Simple formatting of text
    • TODO/DONE task management
    • Simple 'templates'
    • URI-support (for Apple Shortcuts or other automation)
    • oEmbed anything (sandboxed)
    • Cloud sync
    • Export to Plaintext

    There’s NOT ⛔️

    • Multiple ‘vaults’
    • Markdown files
    • iCloud sync
    • Open-source
    • Web-access
    • Document-mode
    • Image support (not natively)

I am making this application for myself. Yet, several people have shown interest. And that feels like an opportunity. The plan is to release it with one-time payment for each major release, across platforms. It would include free, encrypted, hosted in the EU, cloud sync. Starting with macOS and iOS, and with enough interest, Android and Windows after.

  14. Lifehacker: AI Note-Taking Apps Are Violating User Privacy. “A few years ago, AI note-taking and transcription tools were a niche productivity hack used by busy executives and the media. Now, they’re everywhere. But these apps come with a legal fine print that most people don’t know to look for.”

  16. Ugh. I have been so overworked (in a part-time job, FFS) that I've just been randomly throwing notes into my #Obsidian inbox or leaving them to languish, lost and forgotten, in my Daily Notes or my physical #notebooks .

And so today I set out to clean up my notes on one topic and one topic only and....

    Sigh.

Two hours of unproductive confusion and overwhelm. I give up.
