How can Parkinson's disease treatment be better tailored to each patient's needs?
That's the challenge taken on by BioSense EPFL, a team of students developing a biosensor capable of continuously measuring levodopa levels, the primary medication used to manage the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Naukowcy z University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst stworzyli sztuczny neuron, który z niespotykaną dotąd dokładnością naśladuje swój biologiczny odpowiednik.
To kluczowy krok w kierunku bezpośredniej integracji zaawansowanej elektroniki z żywą tkanką, bez potrzeby stosowania energochłonnych wzmacniaczy sygnału.

"Here we report on voltage-gated solid-state nanopores by electrically tunable chemical reactions. We demonstrate repetitive precipitation and dissolution of metal phosphates in a pore through manipulations of cation flow by transmembrane voltage. Under negative voltages, precipitates grow to reduce ionic current by occluding the nanopore, while inverting the voltage polarity dissolves the phosphate compounds reopening the pore to ionic flux."

A change of scenery now and then leads to new synaptic connections and changes in the #brain - even in mice. A group of researchers implanted #biosensor arrays with 4096 electrodes into the brains of #mice and kept one of two groups in a well-appointed dwelling. Certain behaviors, such as changing rooms, were rewarded. Subsequent brain analyses showed the positive effects of changing environments, e.g., on #neuronal dynamics.

"By controlling the distance between the #nanopore and glass surface, we can actively select the region of interest on the molecule and scan it a controlled number of times and at a controlled velocity. Decreasing the velocity and averaging thousands of consecutive readings of the same molecule increases the signal-to-noise ratio by two orders of magnitude compared with free translocations."

Hello all! Time for an #introduction! My name is R Baer (yes my mom gave me a one letter first name) and I am a Senior Scientist at Stemloop, working on development of our #biosensor platform. My training is in #microbiology and I am interested in all things transcription factor related. Was on twitter as @rcooperbaer, excited to get to know people here!
