Back from my first solo canoe camping trip ever.
Simple in and out to Crab Lake in Kawartha Highlands Park or so I though.
Day 1: strong headwinds turned a 1.5h paddle into 3h. The portage into Crab Lake was a relief! And even with the wind, it was hot. I was gassed by the time I made camp.
Day 2: Hang out, Hike blueberry Mountain. unfortunately no blueberries, but also no bears.
The weather look nice so I took the chance of leaving the fly off the tent. What a beautiful sunset and sunrise.
Day 3: 1.5h paddle and portage in good weather back to the put in. Found second breakfast at the Apsley Inn.

1. got another section of my woodchip path laid this morning, before the day got warm! That's another chunk of lawn down.
2. Had the loveliest walk with a friend at the wetlands yesterday, and the wild roses have started blooming!

2- on these slow first mornings off, I sit at the computer, read, write, scroll eat and drink (modest amounts of) coffee.
I had some fruit with vanilla yogurt as a second #breakfast course (after veg soup and cheese bread), just before 2nd small coffee.. and made some #coffee to chill for outside- my first cold one of the year. Will be my first outside with shorts and shoes instead of long pants and rubber boots, too..lol

First, welcome aboard all new followers here, though I do recommend you follow @chuff instead as that's the main place I post if'n you really want to see what's occupying the echo chamber between my ears.
Speaking of #wafrn , anyone know of anyone providing hosted instances? Some time in the future I expect to replace this blog with a personal Wafrn. Kinda a big deal as #friendica has been my primary #Fediverse software for years, whether on someone else's instance or my own.
Life, there's not much to talk about, work, kill time, work, that's about it. Every now and then the fact that I'm growing old slaps me in the face, like last Sunday. At around 0300, I got up to use the bathroom, checked my apps and found Amazon was throwing money around. Well Ok, guess I'm working, day 6, leaving the house at 0330, few hours of work, then home, nap and errands, perfect. Grabbed second breakfast on my way home, and found I couldn't nap. That took a few days to recover from. That on top of my main gig burying me in work. Yay.
Valentine's Day came and went, me and Vik never really did much for it, so was just another day for me. Wrapping up the process of moving my investments that I inherited, the whole process will likely take to around the end of the year, only because the courts will have to be involved in some of that due to the lack of a will or TOD. Also getting my taxes done, same company, that took a while, joint return, and couldn't find Vik's 2024 so that might complicate things a touch.Got a flea market coming up, I'm actually prepaid for tables at Sunset Hills flea market at their community center for Mar, Apr and May. Still have to sell stuff here, running into problems on that front, each time I think the comics are sold, it falls through, and books should be a fairly easy matter. Once those are gone along with giving his mom's stuff to his family, this place will be mostly cleared out, so once legal matters are done we can downsize.
Speaking of downsizing, I think I know where I'm going to wind up, prolly somewhere around IllFallon... I mean O'Fallon, IL. Not real far from here, and certainly not really closer to my family, but I have to say I like that area. That's where I was delivering for Amazon, at O'dark 30, and gotta say, despite not being able to see things and mostly running in and out of suburbs, I gotta say I like it over there. I think somewhere over there or a little bit east, between I64 and I70 will likely be where I wind up. It feels comfortable, if feels like somewhere I could easily move in and just feel right. I've actually seen a property I like in Edwardsville on Marketplace, but that one would be best if'n my family would want to join me. Its not a large property, but its kinda triangular with one corner and the address in a cul-de-sac, and one side on another street. Could buy it chop it up and have street facing for three houses. But, the property has been on Marketplace for a while, so its either a zombie ad, something is wrong with the property, or its a scam. Oh well, obviously time will tell, but we'll see.March of the Covers is going on, just like this time last year, however this one is happening over on my Wafrn, just look for the hashtag #March-of-the-Covers or follow Chuff. Nah, only improvement is that the camera isn't looking down at me. Oh well, at least y'all can see that I'm bald again, I did that for the new month after not cutting for 2+ months.
Any other news... Well, I'm recovering. Anyone with sense knows that eating at Jack In the Box is risky, but the food is so good... In a junky guaranteed bad for you way, which is why I grabbed breakfast for dinner last night on the way home. Considering how much of a fiasco things were at that store, my order took over 10 minutes to be made, I prolly should've expected this morning, but... Oh well, spent way too much time in the bathroom, limped off to work for a nice light day, then came home napped for an hour or so.
So, that's really everything going on in my #life , what about y'all?

Daily writing prompt What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like? View all responsesWhat are my morning rituals? I would like to say that I get up at dawn to do my Qi Gong exercises but that is far from the truth! In reality, It is my aging bladder and my cats, which get me up of a morning! Once up, my routine is all about THEM!
“Meow! Meow! I want to be fed – Neow!”
So, I stagger to my feet, use the old-fashioned commode beside my bed (we don’t have en-suite bedrooms!), fling on my dressing-gown and shuffle to the cat feeding station. Three plates to be filled for three kitties, who wind themselves around my legs, while I open the wet-food pouch and divide the contents. I must place each plate in a different position, so that each cat gets their fair share.
Then there is the “Topping up the Cat Kibble” ceremony and the cleaning up of overnight kitty litter trays. Oh joy! Once fed, my furry masters want to go outside and bird-watch. So I act as Door-Person for them!
Having fixed up the cats, I can spend a few moments on myself. This time, I am emptying my own kitty litter tray (the commode!), having a wash, flinging on clothes covered in cat hairs, and hastily making the bed before a kitty with muddy paws decides to curl up on the pre-warmed sheets!
I usually put on a load of washing at this time, so that it can be hung outside to dry – provided that it is not raining or snowing!
Eventually, I make it to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. There is always one cat, who chances her paws, and demands a second breakfast of her own! No way, Miss Kitty!
Before I know it, the first hour (or rather hour and a half) of my day has slipped by and is merging with the rest of the post-breakfast chores. Perhaps it is my age but it seems like the ordinary routine jobs take up so much time that there aren’t enough hours left to do anything extra, like having FUN (an alien concept, as Mr. Spock would say)!
So that’s me and my morning rituals – and by the way, Happy April Fool’s Day!

My upcoming work week only has about three and a half days’ worth of time available for my usual work. The entirety of Tuesday, meaning from 5 a.m. to about 9 p.m., has me serving as a poll worker, the seventh time I will have worked as an Arlington election officer. And then I’ll have to set business aside by mid-afternoon Friday to start my journey to Lisbon for Web Summit.

My upcoming work week only has about three and a half days’ worth of time available for my usual work. The entirety of Tuesday, meaning from 5 a.m. to about 9 p.m., has me serving as a poll worker, the seventh time I will have worked as an Arlington election officer. And then I’ll have to set business aside by mid-afternoon Friday to start my journey to Lisbon for Web Summit.

I bikeshared over to the Brookings Institution to see this panel discussion advocating a bill that would set up a Digital Platform Commission to oversee large tech firms. That easy commute got me the added reward of some second-breakfast pastries and professional banter afterwards.
11/2/2023: Intuit to Scrap Mint and Move Its Users To Credit Karma, PCMag
I had seen discussions of this impending forced migration on Reddit, and then Intuit announced it in a post on its Mint blog on the afternoon of Halloween. Because I flew up to New York the next morning to cover the Brooklyn 6G Summit, I had to pluck out some free time between panels at that telecom event to quiz Intuit and then write this post.

My second flight of the week took me to Boston for the International Association of Privacy Professionals’ AI Governance event. Although I had to miss the first day’s lineup of talks, thanks to the first-world problem of having a surplus of conferences to cover, the last day’s panels yielded more than enough material for this post.

WHISKERS IN MY FACE AND MEOWS! By Veronica Smith
Daily writing prompt What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like? View all responsesWhat are my morning rituals? I would like to say that I get up at dawn to do my Qi Gong exercises but that is far from the truth! In reality, It is my aging bladder and my cats, which get me up of a morning! Once up, my routine is all about THEM!
“Meow! Meow! I want to be fed – Neow!”
So, I stagger to my feet, use the old-fashioned commode beside my bed (we don’t have en-suite bedrooms!), fling on my dressing-gown and shuffle to the cat feeding station. Three plates to be filled for three kitties, who wind themselves around my legs, while I open the wet-food pouch and divide the contents. I must place each plate in a different position, so that each cat gets their fair share.
Then there is the “Topping up the Cat Kibble” ceremony and the cleaning up of overnight kitty litter trays. Oh joy! Once fed, my furry masters want to go outside and bird-watch. So I act as Door-Person for them!
Having fixed up the cats, I can spend a few moments on myself. This time, I am emptying my own kitty litter tray (the commode!), having a wash, flinging on clothes covered in cat hairs, and hastily making the bed before a kitty with muddy paws decides to curl up on the pre-warmed sheets!
I usually put on a load of washing at this time, so that it can be hung outside to dry – provided that it is not raining or snowing!
Eventually, I make it to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. There is always one cat, who chances her paws, and demands a second breakfast of her own! No way, Miss Kitty!
Before I know it, the first hour (or rather hour and a half) of my day has slipped by and is merging with the rest of the post-breakfast chores. Perhaps it is my age but it seems like the ordinary routine jobs take up so much time that there aren’t enough hours left to do anything extra, like having FUN (an alien concept, as Mr. Spock would say)!
So that’s me and my morning rituals – and by the way, Happy April Fool’s Day!

@tsyum I really enjoyed #TedLasso too. If you're into nior style detective shows the #Bosch series is great. Most recent watched #TheMissing and ended binging the last few episodes cos I needed to know who done it.

I feel like the more time I spend in #jira, the more #userscripts I land up needing to make it work in some sensible way. All of which could easily be solved by some user (and I mean user, not project admin) preferences.
