  1. Well, this has been a rough month for March of the Covers, no idea why I had so much trouble staying on top of it. I think next year may be the last one I do, simply because I'm struggling to come up with a month's worth of covers, heck, this might wind up being the last one, we'll just have to see.
Any how, for this last one, how about The Donnas cover Bachman-Turner Overdrive on Rolling Down the Highway? From the soundtrack of Herbie Fully Loaded, a dog of a movie (they managed to release two bad Herbie movies months apart, one an ABC family movie with a great cast and crap story, and this one with a crap cast and an almost good story, the original story badly updated to modern times really). Well, at least it gave us a good soundtrack.

  2. Ok, time for today's cover, and its actually an interesting one, Rosanne Cash's cover of Tenessee Flat Top Box? Who did the original? Her father, Johnny Cash, though she didn't know it at the time, she had recorded it at the suggestion of her husband, and assumed it was a public domain song.

  3. Whoops, was so busy on so many things yesterday that we forgot to post a song. While the movie Black Dog was crap, the soundtrack was awesome, lots of great covers on their, but today we're focusing on Rhett Akins cover of Eddie Rabbit's Drivin' My Life Away.

  4. You know, the really fun part of cover songs is finding out that some of your favorite songs are covers. Move It On Over is a great George Thorogood song, something I found because my dad really loved the band, but did you know it was a cover? Yeah, the original is by Hank Williams, yes, Hank Williams the first, and a quite good country song, but I don't think I could've imagined this as a old school country song if'n I hadn't heard it.

  5. Alright, lets rock, how about some Good Times, Bad Times? Originally a Led Zepplin song, God Smack did a pretty good job covering it, no?

  6. Ok, today's cover is going to be an easy one, more country, a country cover of a country song about driving a truck, what could be more country than that? Yep, no rock cover of a country song or country cover of a rock, nothing but pure truck driving country.

  7. Ok, lets get up to date on the covers with Air That I Breathe by Hank Williams Jr. I'm not actually sure which version I'm familiar with, I mean I have this one in my collection, but considering who wrote it, Albert Hammond in 72 who released it on his debut album It Never Rains In California, and while I don't recognize his name, I do recognize that album title as a song I've heard, so there's a fair chance I've heard it. And then there was the Evrly Brothers cover in 73, we all know them, followed by a Hollies cover in 74 produced by Alan Parsons, yes, that Alan Parsons, there's a lot of versions I could've and prolly did hear before this version. To make things even crazier, it was covered in 98 by Simply Red, a band name that sounds familiar, though I can't say from what song.
So, yeah, lots of artists that I know and like have done this one, so which was the first I became familiar with is definitely a hard one to say, but they're all good. Kinda funny, the Wikipedia article lists other covers as well as the important ones, and this one doesn't show up any where.

  8. Alright, another one a day late, but better late than never. Yeah, this year is country heavy, but ain't nothing wrong with country? I ain't never seen a problem with it, and so today's is I Ain't Never, originally written by Webb Pierce and Mel Tillis in 1959, recorded by Pierce in 59, and Tillis in 72, or rather that's the recording everyone knows, he'd previously recorded it in 62. This version is a more recent one by BR5-49, a now defunct country/alt country/roackabilly/country rock band

  9. Ok, still not managing to keep up with this year's promise of a cover song a day. Catching up with yesterday, how about Walk Away? Originally written by Joe Walsh, yes, that Joe Walsh, for the hard rock band James Gang. Tesla's cover is a fairly straight cover, after all they too are a hard rock band, but its not like there's many covers of this song, which is a shame because its a great song.

  10. Alright, with this one, March of the Covers is back on track. And what is this? Why just Suspicious Minds, yep, the Elvis song… As a country duet. Not real fond of this, but seriously, could never have imagined this song as a country cover, so as we said up front, even if'n we don't like it, it gets on the list if it stands out, and this certainly stands out. If I had to pick a version I like, prolly Dwight Yoakam edges out Elvis for me.

  11. Ok, still getting the march on track, and lets go weird, cover of Oingo Boingo's Dead Man's party any one?

  12. Ok, the march kinda stumbled, didn't it? RL has been stomping on me as my recent post showed, so lets start getting caught up with a lazy cover. Definitely lazy, no real changes to it, no change to the lyrics, even refers to himself as a girl at one point, the ultimate in lazy

  13. Alright, could've sworn I shared this one last year, but my index says nope. The original is by Leo Sayer, and he would perform it dressed pierrot clown, and is good, but there's just something about the Three Dog Night version that makes it the definitive version in my mind. And no, this isn't the same song as the Queen song of the same name.

  14. Ok, and for tonight we have an unexpected cover, Stone Temple Pilots doing an acoustic rock/grunge cover of Led Zepplin's Dancing Days. Not as good as the original, but its a pretty cool cover nonetheless

  15. Ok, I always love a cover where I wind up going 'what do you mean that's a cover?' Today gives us one, I'm sure many of us here remember this synth pop song, right?

    https://youtu.be/lVrELhxOFnM

Would you believe that its a cover of a 20 year old pop-soul song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David? Yeah, really, one of those how did this happen?

  16. So today's song is an interesting one, this is the version I know from the a NASCAR CD, Runnin' Wide Open, basically a compilation album full of car related songs. What I didn't know and surprised me when SXM played the original is that this is a Bruce Springsteen song. I swear, Springsteen is like Prince, his name turns up in the most unexpected places as a songwriter and/or the original recorder of songs.

  17. Extra tired today after a 9 hour day, so lets make today's music a quicky. This is actually the version that introduced me to the song, but I have since heard the original by the Band, and like them equally, which is rather a strike against this cover, as in my mind it really doesn't do anything special, its just fine, and nothing else.

  18. Oh y'all thought I'd forgotten March of the Covers, or given up due to the lack of feedback? Perish the thought.
Not a lot to say about this song, its a neat reworking of the original song, and in fact Roberta Flack the original singer would perform it with the Fugees, although their version had Lauryn Hill on vocals originally.

Not much to say about this one, ska bands will cover just about anything, so how about Come on Eileen? Yeah, who had that on their bingo card?

  20. Ok, here we are, day 11 and another cover for y'all. Everyone knows Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead O'Connor, right? Actually hers is a cover, in fact its the third version, Prince wrote it for a band he backed, The Family, and it was on their debut album, plus naturally he recorded it. But here's a different take on it from Chris Cornell.

  21. Ok, another late one, another almost missed, and tomorrow's will likely be on the late side as I'll be working early and long. Any how, Desperados Waiting For the Train, a song I know from the Highwaymen, the country super group, but was written in 1973, and has been recorded a lot, this particular version I'm not even sure when its from.

  22. Almost forgot to post today's cover, was laying in bed and remembered, so here it is, day 9. Not much to say about this one, was originally done by Bruce Springsteen, and only a couple words were changed in this, what is prolly the best known version.

  23. Day 8, can we keep this up? Well, we can definitely keep rocking, with I Need A Lover, a song I associate with Pat Benatar, don't we all? However it was written and first recorded by Johnny Mellencamp on his first album in Australia, but not released until his second album in the US.. If'n that name sounds familiar, yep, its the name John Cougar Mellencamp originally went by. I've heard his version, but I still can't see anyone else but her singing it, and it was on her debut album.

  24. Seventh day and still going strong on March of the Covers. One of the fun things is learning new things about songs you like, like https://youtu.be/a2sk5U6fMwc . The Rascals version is the one I know best, but I've heard the Dead's version a few times. What is interesting is that this is a cover of the Rascals version which is a cover of the Olympics song which doesn't use the original lyrics written by Rudy Clark and Arthur Resnick and recorded by Lemme B Good. So does that mean we all know the same wrong words to Good Lovin'?

  25. Ok, perhaps today's cover is low hanging fruit, but I'm lazy sometimes, so today you get the Lemonheads cover of Mrs Robinson.
Yes, this song was used in The Graduate, or rather parts, but it wasn't written for it, it'd been written by Paul Simon before the movie, and he offered to allow them to use parts of it. In fact to keep making this odd, the film uses two different short versions of the song, and it was a replacement for two songs that Simon had written for the film, but the director didn't like. Seriously, look this up on Wikipedia, its a rather odd story.

  26. State of the state

Or something like that. What's going on online and offline...

First, welcome aboard all new followers here, though I do recommend you follow @chuff instead as that's the main place I post if'n you really want to see what's occupying the echo chamber between my ears.

Speaking of #wafrn , anyone know of anyone providing hosted instances? Some time in the future I expect to replace this blog with a personal Wafrn. Kinda a big deal as #friendica has been my primary #Fediverse software for years, whether on someone else's instance or my own.

Life, there's not much to talk about, work, kill time, work, that's about it. Every now and then the fact that I'm growing old slaps me in the face, like last Sunday. At around 0300, I got up to use the bathroom, checked my apps and found Amazon was throwing money around. Well Ok, guess I'm working, day 6, leaving the house at 0330, few hours of work, then home, nap and errands, perfect. Grabbed second breakfast on my way home, and found I couldn't nap. That took a few days to recover from. That on top of my main gig burying me in work. Yay.
Valentine's Day came and went, me and Vik never really did much for it, so was just another day for me. Wrapping up the process of moving my investments that I inherited, the whole process will likely take to around the end of the year, only because the courts will have to be involved in some of that due to the lack of a will or TOD. Also getting my taxes done, same company, that took a while, joint return, and couldn't find Vik's 2024 so that might complicate things a touch.

Got a flea market coming up, I'm actually prepaid for tables at Sunset Hills flea market at their community center for Mar, Apr and May. Still have to sell stuff here, running into problems on that front, each time I think the comics are sold, it falls through, and books should be a fairly easy matter. Once those are gone along with giving his mom's stuff to his family, this place will be mostly cleared out, so once legal matters are done we can downsize.
Speaking of downsizing, I think I know where I'm going to wind up, prolly somewhere around IllFallon... I mean O'Fallon, IL. Not real far from here, and certainly not really closer to my family, but I have to say I like that area. That's where I was delivering for Amazon, at O'dark 30, and gotta say, despite not being able to see things and mostly running in and out of suburbs, I gotta say I like it over there. I think somewhere over there or a little bit east, between I64 and I70 will likely be where I wind up. It feels comfortable, if feels like somewhere I could easily move in and just feel right. I've actually seen a property I like in Edwardsville on Marketplace, but that one would be best if'n my family would want to join me. Its not a large property, but its kinda triangular with one corner and the address in a cul-de-sac, and one side on another street. Could buy it chop it up and have street facing for three houses. But, the property has been on Marketplace for a while, so its either a zombie ad, something is wrong with the property, or its a scam. Oh well, obviously time will tell, but we'll see.

March of the Covers is going on, just like this time last year, however this one is happening over on my Wafrn, just look for the hashtag #March-of-the-Covers or follow Chuff. Posts may get occasionally boosted over here. And as always we're building a playlist over on YouTube.

Pictures of me from the WebCam always look so far away, maybe if'n I move it to the shelf over there...

Nah, only improvement is that the camera isn't looking down at me. Oh well, at least y'all can see that I'm bald again, I did that for the new month after not cutting for 2+ months.

Any other news... Well, I'm recovering. Anyone with sense knows that eating at Jack In the Box is risky, but the food is so good... In a junky guaranteed bad for you way, which is why I grabbed breakfast for dinner last night on the way home. Considering how much of a fiasco things were at that store, my order took over 10 minutes to be made, I prolly should've expected this morning, but... Oh well, spent way too much time in the bathroom, limped off to work for a nice light day, then came home napped for an hour or so.

So, that's really everything going on in my #life , what about y'all?

  27. Well, day 5, what music do we have for you?

Yeah, more country, but this time an interesting one, He Thinks I Still Care. If'n the title has you scratching your head, its a gender change cover by Anne Murray, the original and otherwise identical version being She Thinks I Still Care first recorded by George Jones. To make it more interesting, Anne Murray was more of a pop start, this being her first country hit.

  28. Here we go day three and… Yeah, dunno what's with all the country, I swear that'll stop at some point.

    https://youtu.be/n5SOZ_6sHFY

Any how, let's have some Delta Dawn by Helen Reddy who was one of the many to cover it. I'm fairly certain Tanya Tucker's is the one, but I might be wrong, it was recorded in 72 by Bette Midler on her debut album as well as Tanya Tucker, and Helen Reddy came along in 73 to record it. Its first recording was by its co-writer Alex Harvey in 71, so it was pretty hot for a little while there.

  30. Day 2, and what do I have for you?
More country, and a sorta surprising one, surprising in that it doesn't get a lot of covers, more than I realized for one of Marty Robbins' best songs, Big Iron. Its a fairly typical song of the time, though I will say it made me aware of one piece of wild west history that I wasn't aware of, Rangers are not exclusively Texan. Yep, we've all heard of the Texas Rangers, but this song is about an Arizona Ranger, but is a typical 50's wild west shoot out, and of course the good guy wins.

  32. Ok, another year, another March of the covers. I was planning on posting about this a few days ago, and the first video link this morn, but work's been crazyso it'll start later.

So what is the March of the covers? A YouTube link to a cover song evere day this month. I started this last year and i not only have a playlist for this year, but most of next year. You may also get a bit of chatter about the song too, but what you won't get are covers done for comedic reasons like The Cleverleys cover of Ganum Style. You also won't see live only covers, like ia band does an oncore performance of covers that they never record in studio.

    EDIT
    Last year's playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfOhHdvmYJXiaGurRj7eWPyOlYRe0WPCn

I've decided that I'm going to do it as a single thread, so each song will be a reply to this post, so if'n you want to comment on a video, just reply to that reply.
