I've been wanting to build up a dedicated winter rig to have a bike with spikes and fenders mounted ready to go for a while, but now it turned up almost a bit too pretty ;).
All City Space Horse, with almost exclusively parts I had lying around, I love how this build came together. It's all focused on simple maintenance and robustness:- 3 speeds, courtesy of a 44/ 32/ 24 triple in front with a 16 in the back, all possible due to a Paul Melvin chain tensioner
- old XT tripple MTB crankset
- XTR V-Brakes, the obvious star of the build (these were lying around in my parts box for about ten years now)
- Schwalbe studded winter tires (30s, the cheap ones, let's see how much use they get)
- Deore brake levers, they're quite nice (those I bought new)
- MTB flats, so I can wear warm/ any shoes. I have some quite warm winter MTB shoes, might switch to clipless pedals at some point

I went out for some supplies today. Assen is quite good at clearing cycle-paths from snow, but it's not perfect.
