The Linux desktop is evolving.
Fedora Atomic, Universal Blue, and the shift from "snowflakes" to verifiable, reproducible images. I wrote about why OSTree, bootc, and images like Aurora & Bazzite are the future of reliable desktop computing.
Goodbye dnf update, hello atomic rollbacks.

After the very timely death of my 2017 HP Envy (all Intel) laptop, I just managed to move the SATA SSD and the 16 GB RAM over to my daughter's retired 2017 HP Pavilion (Intel + Nvidia).
The Bluefin install I was using on the dead laptop booted right up and is working as if nothing happened.
FYI, this is my first time using Nvidia.
The old laptop had a spinning Win 10 drive and 12 GB of RAM (one 8GB stick, one 4GB -- who does that?? HP, I guess.)

I'm trying this now on Bluefin LTS:
Homebrew is just as good on Linux as it is on Mac

Welp, since I started work on my new TrueNAS server, and I'm giving Aurora a good run on my desktop computer, I've updated my /Uses page.

@mattdm @sozutovo @fedora Even in Fedora Atomic upgrades are not automatic. Someone has to press a button. In my experience watching people using any computing device, many people do not see or care about notifications. People will fall on EOL OS image for years unless you do yearly support.
So, I'd substitute #UniversalBlue in this response.
Lack of automatic updates is the reason #Fedora #Silverblue is not my first recommendation to beginners, preferring #EndlessOS or #UBlue instead.

At our regular Digital Lounges we often help people switch to linux by helping them get a decent linux installed.
We've started trialing on a different linuxOS being Aurora by Universal Blue (the team behind the Basite Gaming OS).
Anyone have experience using Aurora, epsecially in comparison to Fedora Atomic Kinote, we're looking for a new atomic style option, would love to hear people's experiences.

"To rethink the Linux Desktop experience from the ground up, we built Aurora on new technology and principles." .. more info here on the OS.

From #CentOSShowcase: Jorge Castro showed off a tech preview of Bluefin LTS, a CentOS-based workstation OS from @UniversalBlue built with bootc.

There are five types of users who may try Linux instead of Windows, one a couple of distros for each one of them.
1. Complete newbies: ZorinOS
2. Students and office workers: VanillaOS
3. Windows refugees: Mint
4. Content creators: Mint, Fedora Workstation

My development environment for now:
1. Mac (with macOS) + Microsoft Remote Desktop, using Tailscale for easy access to:
2. Linux PC running @UniversalBlue Bazzite, effectively working full-time as a VM host for:
3. GNOME Boxes (@gnomeboxes), with development-ready @xubuntu 24.04 and testing daily builds of 24.04 minimal and desktop ISOsEverything works together so nicely and makes working from anywhere convenient and easy.

does anyone know if bazzite:testing tracks the fedora updates-testing repo? Or is it just testing new changes to the bazzite tweaks?

Fedora 40 came with a lot of announcements, and not all from Fedora! In case you missed it, here is a roundup of all the news related to Fedora Linux 40 from us and our open source down streams @UniversalBlue, @bluebuild, @ultramarine, @centos, and more! Oh, and the news from @slimbook and @frameworkcomputer :)

Just received my @frameworkcomputer 16 DIY laptop and I am absolutely in love. It's an incredible piece of tech. I have it now set up with @UniversalBlue project #fedora_bluefin and it's smooth as butter.
Getting my #gamedev environments set back up and look forward to producing more games and tutorials.
Hopefully I can get my small gamedev studio backup and running.
Been a bit since I posted but I hadn't been this excited for movement in a bit.

Looks like someone is making maximum out of the `rpm-ostree`. I definitely need to try Universal Blue. I really have a feeling that immutable distributions are the thing to watch and there is a lot to come in that area.

Thank you for being an example of a new paradigm in desktop Linux! People are not ready for a future where image hopping is a thing!

How to choose the perfect #Linux #Distro for you
This guide may be a bit different from what you know. Linux offers a ton of choice, and there are some factors you might want to think of, rather than using #DistroWatch or #DistroChooser for a half-baked recommendation.
Dont hesitate to try them out! But for a longer investment, make a good decision!

So, I don't suppose anybody can #help me with #installing a #tablet #driver for #Huion #Kamvas (#Wacom usually is a good first step) on an #atomic #Linux #desktop (#Bazzite in my case)?
I installed the #OpenTabletDriver but the tablet is not recogniced and just turns itself off again …

Bootc as a project is one with tons of promise and lots of community support. It's what is powering the next generation of Atomic Desktops, CoreOS, and Fedora IoT, not to mention all of the work that @UniversalBlue has done to show off everything that can be done today.
If you want to follow bootc more closely, regular updates from Fedora's end are shared here. :)
