huh this new focus on Wayland is interesting.
but then again if you’re using a distro with a frequently up to date DE (especially #KDE ), you don’t need to worry about any of this because it’ll just work ootb.
this is just an issue with the official #huion driver (that still only supports ubuntu btw)

Dear Fedipeeps, I seek your counsel on buying the right drawing pad. Here are my ideal requirements, though I am willing to compromise (especially on the price, and except the Linux part):
- Something to use with Krita - I am not a sophisticated artist by any margin, I plan to mostly draw naive, aquarelle- and flat-like comics and text-accompanying images.
- I prefer to see what I draw on the surface, so with a screen.
- Price range up to 666€.
- I use Linux, it should fully work on it.
I used some cheap Wacom in the past, it wasn't half-bad but I don't enjoy staring at a different screen. I've seen Huion Kamvas 16 Gen 3 recommended for my requirements, but I have no idea what I'm doing.
Any tips welcome!

Poważnie, jakbym chciała tablet bez ekranu bym wyciągnęła swój stary wacom… Poważnie, moja precyzja ruchów jest związana z widzeniem tego co rysuję w momencie, gdy to rysuję, patrzenie na ekran średnio mi w tym pomaga (Bardziej używam patrzenia na ekran PC w momencie kolorowania i cieniowania, bo jest większy, więc lepiej widać niezamalowane piksele, nie jest idealnie, ale no, z astygmatyzmem trzeba sobie jakoś radzić)
Niestety, moja precyzja się zaczyna walić jak jestem zmuszona do patrzenia w jedną stronę i rysowania w dół… Nie wiem czemu, ale po prostu mam z tym problem (W sumie, to nie jedyne przypadki problemów z koordynacją, jak głaszczę jednocześnie psa i kota, jest to dla mnie wyzwanie, bo najlepiej idzie ze strony w którą patrzę), jestem w połowie oburęczna (Jako dziecko zostałam zmuszona do używania prawej ręki… Byłam leworęczna…), więc tak, może to wpływać na tę problemy (Jak to, że trzymam inaczej niż "W poprawny sposób", a w poprany sposób trzymam lewą ręką, ale niestety, lewa ręka nie ma tyle doświadczeń co prawa, więc średnio ten fakt jest użyteczny…
I tak, zdarza mi się często potykać i zderzać z przedmiotami, choć raczej to nie jest DCD, bo mam zbyt dużą precyzję… Po prostu moja koordynacja jest bruh, ale nie na tyle, by mi uniemożliwiała mi różne rzeczy (Halo, rysuję… Więc no, to dosyć trudne dla osób z DCD, więc to wyklucza…), więc mam problemy, ale nie na tyle poważne, by mi uniemożliwiały funkcjonowanie
Więc tak, muszę mieć wyświetlany ekran przez właśnie lekkie problemy z koordynacją… Zabawne jest to, że mogę dużo robić, ale wciąż dobrze słyszeć, a żeby słyszeć muszę coś robić… Paradoks mojego mózgu :A_BlobCat_Bongo:
Ps. Tablet właśnie dotarł, kabel jeszcze nie, ale tak, jest mniejszy niż huion (Niestety, cenowo mniejsze są bardziej dostępne… Jakoś sobie poradzę) i wkłady są małe (Były dosyć dobrze ukryte w paczce)
Są dwa kable, ale bardziej do smartfonów/laptopów niż PC z wejściami A, a tę kable trzeba zamówić osobno (No niestety, tak już bywa…)
Ale tak, tablet doszedł, teraz czekanie na kabel, pewnie dojdzie, albo późno, albo jutro :V

#askfedi #huion #linux I got a huion kamvas 13 pro 2.5k. And it seems the linux drivers are missing the "calibrate Screen" button. And without it the pen is 5mm off in the corners. Which is basically unusable.
Will send it back if I cannot find a solution for calibration.
(edit) xinput_calibrator can be used for calibration but the display is still way to inaccurate to be used.
OpenTableDriver.net instead of the huion drivers. Same calibration problems though.
Will return product.

Ok, one more thing with #kde and #huion...
I had a really hard time adjusting my strokes because there was a little bit of offset from where the pen touches the screen and where the brush starts drawing. Maybe 8 pixels up and left.
Trying to calibrate the stylus with the "tap the four dots" test usually just made things worse.
But then I recalled, these settings were stored in a file! '.config/kcminputrc' to be specific. Perhaps I could tweak it there?
So I opened it up, found a segment with Huion settings and values for InputArea and OutputArea.
After some trial and error, I came up with these offsets
OutputArea=0.0004,0.003,1.0004,1.003
Now, drawing in #krita, the line starts smack under the stylus tip. ☺️
I don't know if this offset was intentional, but it felt really strange coming from iPad and Apple Pencil...

Did some further digging into the joyful #huion and #krita shenanigans, now focusing on #kde.
It seems that it's not possible to configure what the side buttons on the pen does. Neither the Huion driver nor the KDE config seem to do anything. I tested the driver on a fresh Kubuntu install, but I would not install the Huion driver on any setup, seeing how useless it was!
It appears if the first side button is hard wired to send a center mouse click, but I haven't found what the second button actually emits, because it is not the right mouse click.
I thought this would be a bigger issue, but it looks like much if not all the actions in Krita can be triggered from other places.

So, I've tested the #Huion Kamvas Pro 19 on four systems today..
1. Fedora KDE
2. #PopOS Cosmic
3. #Ubuntu Gnome
4. Windows 10The system that gave me the least trouble was **Fedora KDE**. I don't know is it the #Fedora part or #KDE part, but touch and pen just work as you'd expect on Krita.
PopOS and Ubuntu (Gnome) had somehow locked that all touch and pen inputs got transferred to the main display device, which is really not what you want with a pen display.
Windows 10, with the latest drivers, got the pen part right, but touch got transferred to the main display. At this point I thought changing the Huion as my main display, and Krita got working somewhat, but not a great solution. There was no pressure sensitivity yet, but it might just be a matter of resetting.
#Blender does not register touch inputs on any of the four systems, which makes me suspect it requires some very specific setups... (they should have a peek at how #Krita does it)

I received a fancy package from #Huion and @dff, celebrating my #SFD2005 comic/mascot. After some initial confusion about how config app maps pen input I was able to get it up and running on my Fedora desktop using official drivers without any hassle.
Compared to my old Cintiq, it's so small and light. I'm still wrapping my head around how to fit the mind boggling number of pixels into my desktop layout, but I am looking forward to getting some painting done when I have time!
