@feld @p @silverpill @jeffcliff ok, very interesting to read these thoughts on the degraded state of IPFS and how unfit it currently is for use with fedi (in browser as an add-on and as a server).
it fits with my thesis that foss on m$github is getting slowly compromised, by the shell accounts that the corporate state have on that weaponized platform.... a controlled platform, at best, and a platform that deanonymizes devs, which is a way to control them at the very least.
Id consider going back to 2021 and looking at their codebase then, and comparing it to today, there were some very prominent independent media folk talking about IPFS back then and so i suspect that THAT is when the controlled demolition may have started. My understanding is once the corporates have their sights on a codebase they force the programmers to accept bad tradeoffs. Trade-offs exist everywhere, and permutations of tradeoffs can be chosen ad-infinitum. my learned experience is that foss on mshithub tends to not improve in ways that would allow it to compete with corposhit, especially in the #ux department.
to accelerate :butterfedyC: fediverse centric adaptations, just over a week ago i wrote about having #ipfs on another repo and i now, having read both your comments i think it may need to indeed be a fork. a week ago i suggested the acronym DCN (decentralised content network) a tongue-in-cheek reference/reversal of CDN....
so yeah if anyone wants to run with that idea, u have my blessing

i've registered for 3 virtual events with #OutInTech centered around #UI / #UX
no idea if anyone from that org is on the #fediverse? or is it some terrible linkedin void to avoid?
but my UX is not going so well for my introductory event
a cloudflare verification infinite loop blocks my way into what may be an interesting –talk– _take_ on USER EXPERIENCE
perhaps by my second or third event, i will find resolution
i'm probably just holding the #Internet wrong
all the best 🌈💻🦄

IDEA - given that Mastodon's API gives access to edit history, a single-function website that just does edit-history highlighting would be a neat project!
You just paste in the URL for the post, and it highlights differences.
That would be neat.

So my iPhone now runs some garbage named #Vungle Cloud UX that I can’t turn off without restarting the phone. The internet tells me this is a known leftover from some buggy ad that was shown on my phone recently.
I run very few apps on my phone and I am certain that the only apps that show me ads are these #Microsoft Casual Games, so I have to conclude that they are at fault.
Fuck you Vungle, and fuck you Microsoft. Instead of buying Premium to remove ads, I’ll just uninstall your games. -
I know #itunes or Apple Music has always been a shitshow from a UX perspective, but wtf, don't take away 'search in my library' and just search the entire music catalogue. Also, FFS #Apple - only one woman across these genres, you sure about that.
#applesucks #algorithms -
Added an opening book. Just for fun, I tried it against Usagi and Long John Silver in #OthelloWorld, and it lost against them both. I was hoping the game would be good enough to beat the rabbit, even without tuning. Well anyway UX is decent, now to work on the weights for the AI.

@𝓒𝓱𝓻𝓲𝓼So you are saying all the talk and efforts about UX/UI brings us not closer to the essential points and is actually distracting us...
No, I'm saying that people come from #Mastodon straight to #Hubzilla in expectation of "Mastodon with #RichText and a 50,000-character limit". Just like they came from Twitter to Mastodon because they were promised "literally Twitter without Elon Musk".
Then they land flat on their faces. Hubzilla turns out to be nothing like Mastodon. It handles vastly differently. Nothing is where they'd expect it. No content warnings (because Hubzilla calls them summaries). No UI element for alt-text. It doesn't have an app. Mastodon apps don't work. And so forth. Hell, 95% of them even fail to connect to other Mastodon users because nobody tells them that they have to turn #Pubcrawl on first!
Verdict: Hubzilla sucks. And they're back to their cosy little Mastodon which was hard enough to get used to already. No ambitions to learn something wholly new yet again.
I still remember when #Friendica mimicked the UIs of Facebook and #Diaspora*. Maybe Hubzilla needs to adopt this again with UIs that mimic Facebook, Twitter, Bluesky, Threads and the most popular Mastodon Web interfaces. Not only in looks, but even in handling as far as that's possible.just did some studies about the term #FederatedSocialWeb and will post it in a new thread
The #FederatedSocialWeb was:- Diaspora* for the clueless hipsters who had never heard of Friendica, and who were absolutely convinced that those four guys were the first to develop a decentralised social network
- Friendica for the geeks, the cool kids and alternative left-wing activists who had to use something obscure so that the authorities wouldn't discover their posts too easily
- the #RedMatrix for those few daredevils who a) knew about it, b) were willing to try it and c) actually had access to a Red Matrix instance
- Diaspora* for the clueless hipsters who had never heard of Friendica, and who were absolutely convinced that those four guys were the first to develop a decentralised social network

@hrefna Implementing the how the most desired #ActivityPub features function (technically and in the #UX) before #GAFAM decides for us, will protect us more than the whole #Faceblock debate, regardless whether our instances decide to #DefederateMeta or not.
Just imagine if it's possible to easily move posts from Mastodon.social to Facebook, but not the reverse? Or if people deciding what instance to use are told they can only use #Meta to have their messages be secure and *cough* private? 🤢 🤮

Downshift.js (https://downshift-js.com) is awesome! Just built a fantastic combobox (searchable dropdown) with it.
One caveat: you can't open the dropdown after selecting unless you backspace the selected item. Takes a few state-setting gymnastics to override that, including setting a ref on the input and blurring it on item select.

Hi Albert @wunderalbert,
Why UI/UX framework support for #HeyGitHub voice-coding productivity boosting?
With decades of experience on dev teams of all kinds, I see three user profiles of interest:
1. On large-project enterprise teams, the UI/UK coder tends to be a junior non-engineer designer. These folks can use all the help they can get to contribute to the team.2. On small consultant engagement-based teams or small entrepreneurial teams, the senior engineer types have to wear many hats. For them, writing UI/UX code is a distraction when they would prefer to work on the actual problem solution code.
3. A third type, which I think fits me, we are thought-leading POC prototypers who are expert at nothing but just need to get our ideas alive for others to see the potential of our concepts. 🤓
In all three scenarios, while the reasons vary, the value of boosting UI/UX developer productivity is clear.

Come on #Google, why can't you just have a simple #translate button on #YouTube comments.
Why do I have to manually select and copy the comment (which I seemingly can't do on Android), and then paste into a translation service, when you could easily integrate it with your own #gTranslate service... -

Unlock WhatsApp Data with Local Analytics Dashboard
Most people think of WhatsApp as “just messaging.”
But after years of conversations, support threads, customer discussions, team coordination, and random life moments… it quietly becomes one of the richest personal datasets you own.
So I built wacrawl-ui — a local analytics dashboard for WhatsApp archives generated by wacrawl.
The idea is simple:
- Your data stays local
- No cloud sync
- No browser extension
- No scraping APIs
- No “AI magic” uploading your chats somewhere
Just a fast local dashboard on top of SQLite.
What’s inside:
- Full-text search (FTS5) – It’s working quite fast. Even on ~100k messages.
- Messaging activity analytics
- Contact insights
- Media browsing
- Response-time patterns
- Word clouds
- Group activity stats
- Read-only local API
- React + Vite frontend
- Express backend
- Zero external dependencies once running – You only need to make sure you run ‘wacrawl sync‘ before.
A few things I found interesting while building it:
- SQLite is still absurdly powerful
People underestimate what you can do locally with FTS indexes and good schema design. - “Local-first” UX matters more than ever
We’ve normalized uploading deeply personal data to random SaaS products. We should challenge that assumption. - Personal analytics is an untapped category
Not surveillance. Not ad targeting.
Tools that help you understand your own data. - Read-only architectures reduce risk dramatically
The app intentionally avoids mutation flows. That constraint simplified security and reliability decisions across the stack.
The whole thing runs with one line:
npx wacrawl-dashboard@latestNo complicated setup.
Still early, but I think there’s a broader shift happening toward:
- local AI – Ollama for the win.
- local analytics – secure, private and handy.
- local search – that works fast.
- user-owned datasets – It’s not for everyone, but it’s useful.
Well, that future feels healthier.
Feel free to check the repo: github.com/greenido/wacrawl-ui and contribute.
Be strong.
