  1. Today I worked on making a quickie #android #MemoryGame application for my grandfather.

Because guess what, one of the best parts of #foss (even do-it-yourself-foss) is the lack of extraneous advertisements - and those were too distracting for him in all the vaunted Play Store memory game apps.

    Check it out! github.com/bojidar-bg/simple-m

Image Toolbox is a FOSS image editor with many powerful tools. I haven't seen such impressive feature list even on paid, proprietary applications.

You can create, draw, edit and do much more with this beautiful #material3 application. A drop in replacement for Snapseed, Photoshop for mobile etc. Available on F-Droid. f-droid.org/packages/ru.tech.i

  3. Is my dream for a modern app finally coming true?

    Definitely checking this out soon.

  4. Remember the "Simple Mobile Tools" suite of Android apps? It used to be a great collection of basic apps that didn't slurp up your data, clog up your apps with advertising, or charge exorbitant prices. It isn't anymore.

At the end of 2023, the suite was sold to ZipoApps, who proceeded to do all of those things. (This appears to be their business model: buy an app with a large install base and squeeze every last bit of monetization out of it while destroying its usefulness, fun, and credibility.)

Seriously: They replaced the $2.99 one-time payment for the Pro version of Calendar with a $15/week subscription.

Fortunately the apps were all GPL, and there's a complete fork called Fossify. They're still slowly rolling apps out to F-Droid and Google Play, with about 10 out so far.

I use the calendar and contacts apps all the time, and the voice recorder is good for taking quick notes.

Fossify Apps: Replacing Simple Mobile Tools

Update: The file manager and gallery have also been solid (local-only of course), and the phone app handles calls just fine (unless you need more accessibility or transcriptions). The music player does well with local audio.

I ended up dropping the messages app, which is OK for SMS/MMS, but doesn't handle RCS at all. The keyboard really doesn't fit my typing style, and I switched to Heliboard.

  5. howtogeek.com/fossify-app-suit

Fossify is a continuation of the "simple Mobile Tools" suite which recently was sold to ZipApps who then promptly ruined them all.

One of the devs who originally worked on Simple Mobile Tools has forked the code, and released it under the name Fossify.

The tools are available on F-Droid, Google Play or directly from their GitHub repo

  6. Fossify apps pick up where Simple Mobile Tools left off (free and open source suite of Android apps)

When the lead developer behind Simple Mobile Tools sold the business to ZipApps last year, many long-time users of this suite of simple, free, and open source Android apps were wary. And, as expected, ZipApps soon started inserting ads and locking features that had once been free behind expensive subscriptions.
But a developer who had worked on Simple Mobile […]

  7. Remember Simple Calendar, Simple Gallery and 22 other bare bones #FOSS Android apps from #Simplemobiletools? Well, they got bought by a company that tries to extract value of the large user base those apps have.
    github.com/SimpleMobileTools/G
Look at the Play Store reviews. The apps now seem to feature a lot of ads and sketchy in-app purchases. 15 $ per week for Simple Flashlight for example. play.google.com/store/apps/dev

  8. 📲 Welche mittelkomplexen FOSS-Dateimanager könnt Ihr für #Android empfehlen? 📁 (also was zwischen #Fossify (ehemals #SimpleMobileTools ) und #GhostCommander )

  9. Fossify has forked the entire suite of Simple Mobile Tools after the original was acquired by ZipoApps, known for acquiring existing apps and bloating them with ads, subscriptions, etc. (Their TrustPilot reviews are an interesting mix of 5-stars from devs who sold them their apps, and 1-stars from customers complaining about unauthorized charges.)

The forked apps are starting to make their way into F-Droid - so far the calendar, file manager and gallery.

  10. @newsfeedindia Does anyone have a suggestion for a #tablet (around 10", <200€ - refurbished but not too old is okay) running #mobilelinux or any other #FOSS OS? At the Moment I am thinking about getting a used #SurfaceGo and put Linux on it. But also a #CustomRom #Android would be fine... On my mobile I am running #grapheneos which is great so far.

  11. Update: #FossifyCalendar for the win!

Does anyone have a recommend for a #FOSS calendar app for #android that:

    a) doesn't suck
    b) has a calendar widget that displays upcoming events, and
    c) can sync with external sources like #Nextcloud

I'm currently sloging it out with #CalenGoo which is buggy, and will not connect to my Nextcloud.

  13. Came across the app ProofMode in the Guardian Project repository for F-Droid. Cool photo app that automatically creates a hash of pictures or videos you take and can share that with others.

I have no need for it personally, that I can think of now, but it's nice to know it exists.

Albo przypominanie o alt text?

Na ile ważny jest wygląd aplikacji? A to, czy jest FOSS?

  15. Does anyone know of a FOSS alternative to the app? I have 1230 days on it and it's very useful to me, despite being so simple. It seems that the app doesn't work well with CalyxOS/AuroraStore/microG though.

    Features I use:
    - daily tracking of mood, activities, notes and photo memories
    - mood graphs
    - goals

GrapheneOS is being heavily targeted by the French state because we provide highly secure devices and won't include backdoors for law enforcement access. They're conflating us with companies selling closed source products using portions of our code.

Both French state media and corporate media are publishing many stories attacking the GrapheneOS project based on false and unsubstantiated claims from French law enforcement.

They've made a clear threat to seize our servers and arrest our developers if we do not cooperate by adding backdoors. Due to this, we're leaving France and leaving French service providers including OVH. We need substantial help from the community to push back against this across platforms.

People malicious towards us are also using it as an opportunity to spread libel/harassment content targeting our team, raid our chat rooms and much more. /e/ and iodéOS are both based in France, and are both actively attacking GrapheneOS. /e/ receives substantial government funding. Both are extremely non-private and insecure which is why France is targeting us while those get government funding.

We need a lot more help than usual and we're sending our the first ever notification to everyone on the server because this is a particularly bad situation. If people help us, it will enable us to focus more on development again including releasing experimental Pixel 10 releases very soon.

  19. Hey everyone, we've got a big update on #BeaverPocket. Soon, it will be available on Android and will support syncing with Dropbox, Nextcloud, iCloud, WebDAV, and OneDrive, with more platforms to follow. This change comes after realizing that manual syncing is too cumbersome for most users. However, the option for manual sync will still be available. Beaver Notes, on the other hand, won't adopt these changes, as they would regress from the freedom that #BeaverNotes' syncing method offers. #foss

  20. 1ere étape effectuée : iPhone -> Pixel GrapheneOS
