Was mich derzeit noch mehr nervt - Apps on Android die #gapps vorraussetzen. Gerade im öffentlichen Sektor ist das für mich ein no-go.
Hier sollte alle Apps auch auf CustomROMs wie @LineageOS etc und ohne gapps laufen.

I am a #Linux beginner who recently purchased a near mint Google Pixel 3a XL with #LineageOS preinstalled. I am assuming the build is #Gapps, which I do not want. (This is why I haven't done anything with the phone yet; I would prefer that Google never know this phone exists.) I want to replace Gapps with #MicroG. Can anyone explain to me as if I was your 80-year-old grandma how to do this step by step? You have to download it manually and put it to your phone via recovery.
Also you'll need a TTS engine and this is kinda problem because I know no TTS which work out of the box without prior network access.
#Espeak needs internet to download language data on first launch;
#RHVoice needs internet for every new voice;
#Vocalizer is paid and needs the same;

The only option at least for Russian people is to download #FonTTS (modern implementation of #NewFon) and use it.
If you know totally offline TTS synthesizers for other languages, please share.

Also even if you put Talk Back and TTS via recovery they won't start via volume buttons.
You have to enable usb debugging via recovery and then, on welcome screen, via adb, enable Talk Back and set default TTS for speech output.

After that you're good to go as an usual user.

I have found an old Samsung Galaxy s5 while reorganizing my old boxes with technical stuff.

16 gb of storage, 2 gb of ram, 32-bit cpu, Samsung Touch Wiz on Android 6.0.1, everything working but battery is almost dead.
Perfect target for crazy experiments, isn't it?

I've flashed #CRDroid 7 with #Android 11 without #gapps.
The latest update was in February 2024 and this is an official end of life for this device. But still it works and Android 11 on a device which was abandoned officially on Android 6 is stable and smooth.
Not the fastest of course, but works and doesn't freeze every second.
I'd say it is comfortably usable for some tasks.

In the series of posts I will tell my experience and share anything I find useful.

Found a way to run a banking app on a #degoogled Android phone (non-rooted #Lineage with #microg and without #gapps). Had to edit the build.prop file following post 4 on this thread:

I thought not being able to do mobile banking was one of the many sacrifices demanded when refusing to feed Google all my data. But there is a workaround - for the time being.

Moving to a combo of a #PinePhonePro and a #Pixel phone with #LineageOS sans #GApps. I ❤️ @bitwarden, but their options are... rough.

No #Google means the #FirefoxForAndroid extension can't access vaults. The webpage / #PWA is 100% not mobile responsive (in 2024!). Ditto the #Linux app. There's no #Android app in #FDroid despite, iirc, the client being #FOSS?

At least make the website mobile friendly. A non GApps extension/client would go a long, long way, too though.

@MrGR Ich beantworte das als ein Vertreter der AG SV mal: Finden wir as Alternative zu Passwörtern gut. Es gibt extra solche Passkeys, die auf dem Gerät verbleiben, wenn man nichts über externe Server synchronisieren möchte. Allerdings können insbesondere Nutzer von freien Systemen kaumPasskeys nutzen, weil sie dort in der Regel noch nicht implementiert sind. #KeePassXC soll Unterstützung bekommen, #BitWarden hat da auch schon was am Start, aber z.B. bei Linux ohne #GApps sieht es noch schlecht aus. @digitalcourage

I hope they have a long walk through the #privacy hill. Multiboot and rugged is a good start.

At beginning of the year I bought a #Pixel6A and I flashed it with #GrapheneOS (of course without #GApps), so for now not, but I'll keep the #VollaPhones as an open option for future sight.

Gentilissimo, grazie! Avevo trovato un articolo di Calamarari (https://www.zeusnews.it/n.php?c=29861) ed un commento secondo cui #appio funziona anche senza le #gapps ma la questione è come e dove vanno a finire i dati ma soprattutto … e se si rompe/spegne il furbofono?

@kuketzblog #DivestOS ist seit einigen Monaten stabil auf meinem #Oneplus7T und ist definitiv das bessere #LineageOS, so lang man auf #Root und jegliche #GApps und auch #microG verzichten kann. Der Docs-Bereich der Website dokumentiert viele technische Eigenheiten von Android und anderen CustomROMs und ist wie ein kleines Arch-Wiki für Android.

@kuketzblog Zunächst: Im Grunde nicht so überraschend, trotzdem hoffe ich, dass das Team von #LineageOS da ein paar Punkte angehen würde. Hierzu wäre es gut, wenn dein Beitrag – am besten übersetzt – in die Kanäle von LingeageOS (z.B. das entsprechende Subreddit) getragen wird. Edit: Ah, das ist schon passiert.

Dennoch würde es immer noch von den eigenen Ansprüchen an das eigene Gerät abhängig machen, ob #LineageOS eine Alternative dafür sein kann. Wer z.B. ein altes mit Bloatware vollgestopftes #Samsung-Gerät sein Eigen nennt oder sein Gerät ohne #GApps betreiben will, für den kann das System nach wie vor ein Befreiuungsschlag sein. Ich teste seit dem Wochenende den #AuroraAppStore und muss sagen: Wow, wieviel angenehmer der als das "Original" ist ..!
Kann ich damit auf meinem nächsten Fon mit #LineageOS auch ganz auf die #gapps verzichten und trotzdem auch die Apps, die käuflich erworben habe nutzen? Oder fehlt dann doch wieder was von den GoogleServices zur Funktion bestimmter Apps?

No #gapps here with #fdroid and #yalp, but still do not trust. Also use #t-ui launcher. Does Google still get data from apps like #termux #connectbot, or #userland? ⁉️
