@markwyner @grantpetersen I wrote about this some time ago. IIRC it's something like 75% of all Mastodon accounts are spread across a handful of servers. While far better than fully centralised services, we still have a long way to go.
Back in the day @mike and I discussed at great length whether #Fosstodon was becoming too large and adding to the problem, so we slowed things down by closing public sign ups.

I think I would enjoy #fosstodon a lot and would like an invite. I’m a big home labber and computer science major. I think I’d enjoy mastodon more on that side.
