#Leonovo #ideapad 520s does not charge and does not run from power supply, but runs from power supply with unplugged battery?
In my case, the broken part was PQ305, AON7408L in DFN8-5 package, on the PCB side that faces the keyboard.
The metal foil is best removed from the inside with a toothpick through those two holes.
I used hot air to replace the part.
Part cost shipped: 10€ (10 pcs - anyone need 9?)
Diagnosis time: ~1 hour
Replacement time: ~30min#repair #diy #ElectronicsRepair #ifixit
Edit: I was only able to repair this by using #leaked #schematic and #layout data. This should be available legally! #righttorepair

#k40 laser cutter maintenance:
1. Cleaned the air outlet from all the gunk
2. Swapped the moldy silicone rubber tubing and cleaned the pump/reservoir from whatever life forms lived in there
3. Cleaned the mirrors... not sure if I will use them again or go for the new ones, they are not exactly great.
4. Fixed the power switch that was welded permanently closed (big switch mode power supply on switched outlet = too high inrush for the poor switchNext steps:
1. fit AA battery instead of coin cells in thermometer
2. Fit new air assist nozzle
3. fit new exhaust ducting and additional exhaust fan
4. Move webcam to inside of lid so #meerk40t can overlay the webcam image on the bed = better placement/material use
5. misc small things
6. Test run! -
I built a thing. It protects the wall from key scratches. Mounting holes are hidden behind the board. Laser cut with #k40 #meerk40t and cut to size, oiled #diy #laserengraver #woodworking

I cleaned the #k40 #laser and #lasercut #disenchantment Lucy for #halloween and placed him inside our "new" outdoor light (vintage 1965 lantern with a DIY bracket and wired up for mains supply instead of a petroleum lantern).

Friday is laser day. Continued #k40 #Lasercutter improvement: moved the webcam, istalled a USB isolator (to prevent EMI USB issues, way better now), tensioned the X axis belt so 150mm/s works and made some nice things.

Looks like the #Renault #Scenic 2 is leaking oil.
I was able to confirm my gearbox reverse light switch repair and gearbox oil change are not the source of this (gearbox still full, lowest spot of the engine is just at the gearbox darin plug thats why the oil goes there).
Cleaned the accessible bottom part of the engine, found that the gaskets of the oil stick failed so ordered a new one and found out that the oil is actually coming right from the top of the engine. To access this part, a special nut and a new air inlet gasket are required. Waiting for those now...
According to some online sources, the screws that hold on the cover are not sealed/tend to leak around the screw head. So just removing one at a time, cleaning the surface and reassembling them with a bit of "gasket maker" could fix this. Cleaning is useful anyways to find out where exactly the oil comes from if this does not fix it.

Ok... this is weird. One of my #Raspis decided to not start some services after a reboot. Turns out the / file system was read only. Somehow, /etc/fstab got a "o" at the end of the line for the root file system.
Remounted rw, removed this "o" from fstab, rebooted and everything is back to normal.
e2fsck showed no errors so... ??? Maybe modifying files via an SSH client on a tiny smartphone screen is not the best idea.

Apparently, it is possible to buy a pre-flashed Gotek to work with #Tektronik #TDS700 #TDS600 scopes. For 170€ incl. shipping.
Lets see if I can do this for ~40€.
Ingredients:
1. #Gotek SFRM72-DU26 (~33€ shipped)
2. #flashfloppy firmware to make it 1.44 MB
3. OLED display (2.5€ shipped) 128x32px
4. 26 pin 1 mm "type B" 200 mm flat flex (3.5€ shipped)The flat flex is required to reverse the pinning.
The OLED is optional but cheap and a huge debugging aid.
Flashfloppy can be flashed with two USB-A to USB-C cables, an USB-C extension Adapter (A to A cable) and a piece of wire, so basically free (had the parts handy). The flat flex will arrive at ~end of december. So maybe this will be an xmas gift to myself...

Hmm so I just ordered some #gotek floppy emulators to bring some 1990s #Tektronix scopes with slim line floppy drive to this millenia.
They should arrive in ~1 month and need flashing with #flashfloppy (the 720kB varaint costs half of the 1.44MB variant... do they charge by size??)

Expectation: buying a replacement keyboard to get rid of broken keys on this #thinkpad laptop
Reality: Replacement keyboard comes with broken keys
*sigh* So it is micro mechanism surgery time to build one working keyboard from two broken ones
Dear #lenovo, this sliding cover mechanism hiding the screws is an absolute pain to work with

As #ICQ is shut down in a few days I think I can disclose this now:
Long long time ago, the official ICQ client allowed #flash avatars. It was possible to use custom flash avatars (from a webserver controlled by me) by uploading a special XML file pointing to that URL using the Miranda (?) ICQ plugin.
The flash avatars allowed #ActionScript and the flash player was running as local user. The intended use case was animated avatars (I send a smiley and the avatar smiles).
I crafted a flash file that displayed a static picture (so nobody will notice its a flash avatar), but opened a http connection to my server and waited for commands. I just used this to run "play this mp3 from that URL" and prank people and never used it for something evil. Never tried to figure out what was possible in terms of local access etc. and never disclosed this possibility until now.

Just in case anyone wants to build a #victronenergy #victron #vedirect galvanically isolated USB cable here are some pics to reproduce my cheap DIY cables.

Was asked to look at a small off grid solar setup today. The lead acid gel battery is dead / high impedance and I was told that the inverter alarm was active at some point due to overvoltage (15 V) so I am not surprised that the battery is dead.
The charge controller is the usual cheap blue PWM charge controller. Settings are correct (max voltage 13,7 V).
I was looking at the thing at night without measurement tools and the PV module is mounted in a way that figuring out the exact type means some ladder/roof climbing...
Any similar experiences with those things?

Just found my 2nd ever #MP3Player while checking/emptying "random old crap" boxes.
The first one was a 128MB unit that failed after an airplane flight to the UK after approx. 1/2 year of use.
This bad boy features a whopping 1GB of storage. At some point the battery compartment failed so I modded it to take a bigger AA battery. The USB cover features slots for a cable tie to route the headphone wires out of the pocket without a mess.
The soft touch paint turned into a horrible goo and collected a lot of dust.
This thing was in daily use for approx. 8 years.
Edit: just checked the online manual. No date, but it mentions Windows98SE. Do you remember installing drivers for USB mass storage devices? That was wild...

CW: complaining about technology
Ah, yes, #computers...
On this T520 #Thinkpad the SSD failed (random freezes/FS corruption). While replacing the #SSD I figured it makes sense to swap the Wifi card as the old one does not like my new Wifi APs (super low data rate, like 100 KB/sec after some kernel update ??).
Anyway to swap the wifi card I need to install a #modbios from 2016 I found on some random Google drive to get rid of the stupid #whitelist. I was able to change the PCI ID on some other cards with some random tool (identifying the card as ethernet card and fooling the BIOS), but not on this one.
So I installed some "windows 7 ultralite" to run the BIOS flash software.
But it refuses to run, as the battery is at 9% and wont charge from sitting so long. The battery went down to 7% while "charging" so I guess it is ewaste. Or just needs some hours on the charger... who knows.
Computers. Are. So. Much. Fun.

@manawyrm just to keep all the info in one place:
long press of the trigger allows video capture. The device provides video output via USB as well as mass storage access. On win11 I just get one static image no matter if VLC or amcap, on Debian I get 1...2 seconds of video via VLC and freezing image after this. Mplayer is not happy at all with default config.
I assume they encode some metadata in between or after frames and this messes up video processing. But thats just a guess.
So video out and video capture in principle works out of the box for this variant/generation of the device :ablobcaramelldansen:
Edit: the h264 stream works: ffplay -fflags nobuffer -f v4l2 -input_format h264 -i /dev/video0
The device identifies itself as infiray c200 so I suspect its compatible SW wise -
Bought a musegear BLE keyfinder. Turns out I get a lot of false alarms with their app... In fact its a KKM K21 flashed with iTrack Firmware running on nRF52. It even still got the accelerometer on there.
With the KKM itrackeasy APP I got a lot less wrong alarms. And my wallet can play music now... like a Samsung washing machine.
But there are still a lot of false alarms.
As this thing features an #nrf52 anyone got nice Firmware to flash on there?
If I would be the manufacturer I would add some optional delay to alarms so the thing does not care about a 5sec connection interruption...

#edit: (falls was schief läuft) ergänzt

Looks like I jumped on the #LiFePo4 #Pylontech bandwagon today.
