I just bought a raspberry pi CM5 + first party heatsink, and I noticed there's a visible gap between the CPU thermal pad and the CPU. It seems to me either the heatsink's integrated standoffs are too high, or its CPU thermal pad is too thin. Is this a known issue?

@darkpixel @kotipino I've been wanting to write up the hiccups I had to solve in order to get my #Asus Zephyrus G16 working, but alas... in the meantime I installed #gentoo on a #Raspi and now I'm TWO installation instruction manuals behind 😅

And yes, of course I should know better than trying to run a system that is half ~arm64 on a f**** #raspi, but my excuse is that I need to somehow somewhere need to get some regular #sysadmin training in between semesters or else I will be out of shape when the "#arch, btw" students come back for the winter term 😂

If you're curious why I'd run -e in the first place, I ran into a serious issue with the #qtdeclarative not allowing me to emerge #quickshell and #dolphin at the same time. I was able to fix it, but I had a lot of unmasking and flagging to do in order to prevent my system from not using any binaries at all anymore... which is kind of important on a raspi. This is probably due to #arm64 ebuilds not being totally up to par, but I don't have time to fix it, unfortunately.

I'm genuinely curious how long it takes to do this.
[Yes, this is with binaries activated, but that's not even half of the packages, because of course I have to change stuff in my flags...]

Mein 2025 Ich hat schon dazu gelernt und ich hab n schickes #Python Programm entwickelt... Auf dem #Mac - aber das ist lief auch schon testweise aufm #raspi
Da wir das irgendwo Vorort Aufbau wollen wäre Laptop die beste Lösung - also mal im Schrank geschaut was da noch so ist: hp probook 650 g1 - i5 4gen 8gb RAM SSD drin - #hardwarereuse
Debian mit KDE Plasma darauf - #hermes_agent installiert - und dann wurde mir erst klar wie genial das wieder mal ist... #debian13 #linux
Hermes mit #glm52 hat Programm gecloned und automatisch in Betrieb genommen - hätte ich auch noch hinbekommen - Zeit gespart
Mit Hermes und der Kommunikation über Matrix brauchen wir uns keine Gedanken über Netzwerk-Ports machen im Ziel Gebäude - alternativ können wir tailscale nach Installatieren #easydeployment
Mit Hermes hab ich ein System das die Messung überwachen kann - läuft noch alles? Und dann direkt Bescheid sagt #watchdog
Noch verrückter - er kann mir dort Vorort auch debuggen und ggf fehler beheben obwohl das Gerät schon 400km weg von mir ist - wie wenn ich davor sitze #softwareengineering
Ich mach das mit den VServer Tag täglich - aber das mein Messtechnik Job so viel einfacher wird - das wird mir jetzt erst klar
Könnte theoretisch 100 solche Messungen betreuen 🤯

@davidculley @masterwolf My point is: I haven't done all of that at once or with only one install. I learned how these things work over the course of two decades.
Some of my other systems run #gentoo (like a #raspi...), and I'm *way* more conservative there, because I don't want to factor in the time it *might* take to debug them.
My workstation? I know it well enough to be comfortable with anything that needs to come.

Regarding that undervoltage thing, to keep the power solid and inside the case I came up with this idea...
I trust the 5V Regulator and have up to 4000mA available on the 5V rail of the case as none of my #eurorack Modules uses that source.

@reeeen Bei mir liegt der RasPi auf dem Schreibtisch und wartet darauf, das tägliche Aktualisieren meiner eigenen "Daily Drive" Playlist bei Spotify zu übernehmen. Das läuft aktuell testweise noch auf dem Laptop und damit nicht 24*7.

Ich habe in den letzten Tagen AIO auf meinem Raspi 4 + HDD installiert. Hat nicht auf Anhieb funktioniert, aber dank intelligenter Unterstützung durch Claude habe ich es hinbekommen.
Derzeit laufen Termine und Kontakte darüber. Heute kommt noch Backup einrichten.
Plan ist dieses auf zweiter HDD und zusätzlich in einer Cloud (Magenta) zu speichern -

einen #vintage #raspi1 heute mit #nerves zum leben erweckt. ich habe einen #k8s cluster in einer alten Postkiste und der kleine #raspi soll dort die Lüftersteuerung, powercycling der nodes, LED #blinkenlights und bisschen Datensammlung (Temp, Luftfeuchte, Lufttemperatur am Eingag der Lüfter und am Ausgang erfassen und für prometheus vorbereiten). Schöne Sache, um den ersten #Pi mit ein bisschen #elixir und #nerves neues Leben zu verpassen. gerade eben zum ersten mal via #ssh eingeloggt. NICE!

Is there an issue in the raspberry pi 32bit kernal? Everytime I run `sudo apt upgrade` from a freshly flashed sd on my pi zero w rev 1.1 the whole system nukes itself with a `unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference`. Just insta restarts.
Its either kernel or corrupt sd right?

Kennt hier jemand etwas ähnlich "Industrie-taugliches" wie ein Revolution Pi?
Aber zu einem Consumer-freundlichen Preis?
Hintergrund ist, dass ein Kunde von mir gerne ein Raspi in einem Mietshaus installieren würde. Für Automatisierung / SmartHome / Lademanagement etc.
Er lebt selbst nicht darin und hat keine Lust, alle paar Wochen ein gecrashtes Pi auszutauschen oder SD-Karten zu rotieren.
Das Ding wird installiert und muss dann einfach einige Jahre ohne viel Liebe durchlaufen.
Mit anderen Worten: Einfach stabil sein. SW wird natürlich aktualisiert, aber auf HW-Faxen haben er und ich keine Lust.
Gibt's da einen Tipp? :)

Picking up a Raspberry Pi Zero to drive an old small monitor for a #homeAssistant dashboard in my workshop.
Hmm, I can prob run VLC on it and have my audio chimes playing down there too rather than just in the kitchen (via the awkward VLC over telnet integration).
