No. I don’t believe a word of it.

  13. Reuters could not ascertain how #TeleMessage had been used by each agency. The service - which takes versions of popular apps & allows their messages to be archived in line w/government rules - has been suspended since May 5, when it went offline "out of an abundance of caution." TeleMessage's owner, the Portland, Oregon-based digital communications firm #Smarsh, did not respond to requests for comments about the #leaked #data.

  14. One of the intercepted texts' recipients - an applicant for aid from #FEMA confirmed to Reuters that the #leaked message was authentic; a financial services firm whose messages were similarly intercepted also confirmed their authenticity.

Based on its limited review, Reuters uncovered nothing that seemed clearly sensitive & did not uncover chats by #MikeWaltz or other cabinet ofcls.

  15. Once little known outside government and finance circles, #TeleMessage drew media attention after an April 30 Reuters photograph showed #MikeWaltz checking TeleMessage's version of the privacy-focused app #Signal during a cabinet meeting.

While Reuters could not verify the entire contents of the TeleMessage trove, in more than half a dozen cases the news agency was able to establish that the phone numbers in the #leaked #data were correctly attributed to their owners.

  16. Reuters identified >60 unique govt users of the messaging platform #TeleMessage in a cache of #leaked #data provided by Distributed Denial of Secrets, a US nonprofit whose mission is to archive #hacked & leaked documents in the public interest. The trove included material from disaster responders, #customs ofcls, several US diplomatic staffers, at least 1 #WhiteHouse staffer & members of the #SecretService.

    #independent #investigations and #leaked #internal #data confirm that #SocialMedia platforms—especially #Meta (#Facebook and #Instagram)—have engaged in #widespread, #systematic #censorship of #pro-Palestinian #content, often in direct response to #Israeli #government #requests[1][2][3][4][6][7]. This censorship has resulted in the #removal, #suppression, or #shadowbanning of tens of thousands of #posts and #accounts, with a disproportionate impact on users from Arab and Muslim-majority countries, but also affecting users worldwide[2][3][4][6].

    Key points from the evidence:

    - Meta has complied with 94% of Israeli government takedown requests since October 7, 2023, resulting in over 90,000 immediate removals and the suppression of millions more posts through automated systems[2][3][4][6].
    - The vast majority of these requests targeted
    #content #critical of #Israel or #supportive of #Palestinians, and only a tiny fraction targeted Israeli users[3][6].
    -
#HumanRightsWatch and other NGOs have documented this as a #global, #systemic pattern of #censorship, not isolated incidents[1][5][7].
    - There is no comparable evidence of systematic censorship or suspension for users expressing pro-Israeli views; the
    #documented #bias overwhelmingly targets pro-Palestinian speech[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].

In summary, the documented reality is that pro-Palestinian views are aggressively censored on major social media sites, while pro-Israeli views do not face the same level of moderation or suppression. This creates a significant imbalance in the digital public sphere[1][2][3][4][6][7].

  21. A Tale of Two Shitties... [1]

I've always done my own seasonal tire changes on my vehicle and my partner's as well. When I first started many years ago, I bought a cheapie 2-ton trolley #jack from Princess Auto - USAnians can substitute "Harbor Freight" and the story will be essentially the same.

But I replaced my vehicle a year and a half ago. The new one rides a little higher off the ground, and has the massive #wheels and #tires that have become the de facto standard, and my old jack didn't lift high enough to change the wheels on the new vehicle. Being the better part of 20 years newer, the new vehicle is also a lot heavier.

So I bought a larger 3-ton trolley jack, with a higher lift height. It's even a real name brand, #Torin. [2]

So anyways... I went to take the snow tires off on the weekend, and the new jack had #leaked, and won't lift properly. So it's sprung an o-ring or other #seal, after only using it 3 times (I think). The 20-year-old Princess Auto special is still fine. They sit next to each other in the garage, so it's not storage conditions.

    Winner: Princess Auto.

Then, while changing tires, one lug #nut was #seized. Got out a decent sized breaker bar, and a 1/2" to 3/8" socket drive adapter from Princess Auto - their "pro" "Pro Point" line, yet - put my back into it, and #sheared the damn adapter off.

    #Craptastic!

    [1] Couldn't resist, sorry. [3]
[2] I didn't say it was a great name brand.
    [3] Not sorry.

  23. Today I learned that #slack saves a „username“ field for your account and doesn’t tell you ANYTHING about that. This lead to my #deadname being #leaked today.

    So…
a #queer space I’m in is using Slack as a communication platform. Due to various concerns we wanted to switch to Matrix.

Our IT had put up a Slack-Matrix #bridge to ease the shift away from Slack.

Turns out this bridge was using a „username“ field that slack had previously depreciated in favor of display names.

As I had joined a Slack years ago before my #transition it must’ve created this username from my email back then, which contained my deadname.

When I transitioned I changed my email and the „Full name“ field on all the slack instances I was on.

I joined that queer Slack space after this and it must’ve just copied over that original username.

THE USERNAME FIELD WAS NOT SHOWN ANYWHERE. It was completely #hidden.

And now the Slack-Bridge had leaked my deadname via the username into our new Matrix space.

    Dear Slack Developers/Team,
    WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!

FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO CHANGE THIS NAME:

    - Go to the slack web app (I couldn’t find it on mobile)

    - Click on the profile picture on the bottom left and click on „Profile“

    - Click on the tree dots next to „Set a status“ and „View as“

    - Go to „Account Settings (external link)“

    - Scroll all the way down (UNDER „Deactivate account“!?!)

    - Click „expand“ on the „Username“ section

    - Change your username and click „Save“

  25. Chief justice Roberts pushed for quick immunity ruling in Trump’s favor – report

John Roberts Jr used his position as the US supreme court’s chief justice to urge his colleagues to rule quickly
    – and in favor
    – of Donald Trump
ahead of the decision that granted him and other presidents immunity for official acts, according to a New York Times investigation published on Sunday.

The new report provides details about what was happening behind the scenes in the country’s highest court during the three recent supreme court decisions centering on
    – and generally favoring
    – the Republican former president.

Based on leaked memos, documentation of the proceedings, and interviews with court insiders, the Times report suggests that Roberts
    – who was appointed to the supreme court during Republican George W Bush’s presidency
    – took an unusually active role in the three cases in question. And he wrote the majority opinions on all three.

In addition to the presidential immunity ruling, the decisions collectively barred states from removing any official
    – including Trump
    – from a federal ballot as well as declaring the government had overstepped with respect to obstruction of justice charges filed against participants of the 6 January 2021 attack that the former president’s supporters aimed at Congress.

The Times reported that last February, Roberts sent a memo to his fellow supreme court justices regarding the criminal charges against Trump for attempting to overturn the result of the 2020 election that he lost to Joe Biden.

In the #leaked #memo, the Times reported that he criticized a lower court decision that allowed the case to move forward
    – and he argued to the other justices that Trump was protected by presidential immunity.

He reportedly said that the supreme court ought to hear the case and grant Trump greater protection from prosecution.

“I think it likely that we will view the separation of powers analysis differently,” the Times said that Roberts wrote to the other supreme court justices in the private memo.

According to the Times, some of the conservative justices wanted to delay the decision on the presidential immunity case until after Trump finished running for a second term in the White House in November.

But Roberts advocated for an early hearing and decision
    – and ultimately wrote the majority opinion himself.

Before the opinion and ruling went public, the Times reported that Justice Brett #Kavanaugh had praised Roberts on the ruling,
    calling it “extraordinary”.

Their fellow conservative justice Neil #Gorsuch
    – who, like Kavanaugh, was appointed to the supreme court during Trump’s presidency
    – called it “remarkable”.

The decision came out on 1 July and stated that former presidents are entitled to some degree of #immunity from criminal prosecution.

Both conservatives and liberals saw it as a huge win for Trump, who
    – among a spate of legal problems
    – is awaiting sentencing for a criminal conviction in May of falsifying business records to conceal hush-money payments to an adult film actor who alleged an extramarital sexual encounter with him.

The supreme court then returned the case to district judge Tanya #Chutkan, who is overseeing the federal case against Trump for allegedly participating in 💥an illicit effort to reverse his defeat in the 2020 election.

That left her tasked with having to figure out how to apply the US supreme court’s decision.

The Times also reported that in the case about 💥whether individual states could kick Trump off the ballot
based on language in the US constitution which bars insurrections from holding office,
⚠️ Roberts told his colleagues that he wanted the decision to be #unanimous and #unsigned.

All nine justices initially agreed that Trump should remain on state ballots.

♦️But then, the Times reports, four conservative justices suggested additions to the ruling,
❌ including proposing that Congress would have to approve enforcement of the insurrectionist ban in the constitution.
