  1. Finally convinced myself to buy a so I can emulate these dreaded HP floppy drives before my Sony MP-F52W-30 gives out.

Will be an interesting exercise to get the config going with

  2. The family of Gotek floppydrives with an 1.3 Oled is complete.

1.3 Oled display Goteks with Rotary encoder and buzzer are now available for :

    Amiga 2000 Internally (3,5 bay)
    Amiga (Family) external
    Atari ST (family) External
    Philips MSX 8235
    Philips MSX 8250/55/80
    5,25 for PC
5,25 with a jog shuttle for PC

  3. @rc2014 IIRC, I had to make one a while ago to flash the #FlashFloppy firmware on the #Gotek floppy emulator, so they may not be totally useless and still very much #retrocomputing related 😉
    Now, 75 of them...

  4. Anyone up for a game of #Zork on a GM905 system from #GeminiMicrocomputers featuring a #z80 processor, 64K memory and dual #gotek floppy emulators running #FlashFloppy? Eh? 😜

  5. The #Gotek floppy emulator installed on the #Amiga 4000 just fried my USB stick with all my ADF files on it! 🔥

Good thing I smelled it burning and removed it right away. Also: I still have the ADF files on my laptop 😌

The #flashfloppy firmware still runs on the Gotek, but doesn't detect another known-good USB stick 😟

  6. If you're a Flashfloppy/Gotek user, and have several different types of them around: *don't* keep your config file on any USB stick you'd want to share between drives. Unless you want all of your drives to be configured the same, which could mean upside-down displays and non-working controls ...

  7. Apparently, it is possible to buy a pre-flashed Gotek to work with #Tektronik #TDS700 #TDS600 scopes. For 170€ incl. shipping.

Lets see if I can do this for ~40€.

    Ingredients:
    1. #Gotek SFRM72-DU26 (~33€ shipped)
    2. #flashfloppy firmware to make it 1.44 MB
    3. OLED display (2.5€ shipped) 128x32px
    4. 26 pin 1 mm "type B" 200 mm flat flex (3.5€ shipped)

The flat flex is required to reverse the pinning.
The OLED is optional but cheap and a huge debugging aid.
Flashfloppy can be flashed with two USB-A to USB-C cables, an USB-C extension Adapter (A to A cable) and a piece of wire, so basically free (had the parts handy).

The flat flex will arrive at ~end of december. So maybe this will be an xmas gift to myself...

  8. After an issue with an original disk error last week, we decided to go with the #Gotek.
The #CDTV is ideal for this, because it doesn't require a hardware mod for the external Gotek. Time for some #MonkeyIsland.

  9. Hmm so I just ordered some #gotek floppy emulators to bring some 1990s #Tektronix scopes with slim line floppy drive to this millenia.

They should arrive in ~1 month and need flashing with #flashfloppy (the 720kB varaint costs half of the 1.44MB variant... do they charge by size??)

  10. #vintagecomputing #MSDOS build progressing. #Pentium 200 with #TsengLabs #ET6000 graphics, CF for storage, #Gotek for floppies and a #PicoGUS with the #McCake #WP32 #MT32Pi wave table add on. Output looped into a #SoundBlaster Vibra 16C for full Gravis Ultrasound, Sound Blaster, Roland and General Midi support. Excellent for all things DOS. Aiming for early to mid 90s games and demos, including point and click adventures from #Sierra and Lucas as well as some of the excellent demos from that time. I'm talking #MonkeyIsland, #LeisureSuitLarry and #FutureCrew and their #SecondReality demo. Tested the latter and got something in my eye. Oh the feels.

  11. Prepared a spare #gotek with #flashfloppy for a workmate. He was gifted an #Amiga 500 and wants to test it...

  12. My Gotek is all updated and upgraded!

    Flash floppy ✅
    Rotary encoder ✅
    Piezo buzzer ✅
    128x32 0.91' OLED display ✅

I had to do a little bit of minor plastic surgery to get the OLED display properly fitted. However it was relatively straightforward with time, care and a very sharp craft blade.

Next stop is my tower PC, then (eventually) my CPC6128.

  13. Breakthrough: I wrote a program that prints a line of text!
    So what's the point?
Program written in #rust, cross compiled on #debian, linked with #vlink to a TOS executable {on Windows), put into a disk image on debian and executed on a real ST via a #gotek floppy emulator with #flashfloppy firmware.

  14. Still making progress with my Gotek!

A rotary encoder and piezo buzzer are now both wired, soldered and fitted.

I have decided not to use the 16x2 LCD display, just too big... Waiting on some 128x32 0.91' OLED displays - they are ordered and will hopefully arrive today.

Eventually the Gotek will end up in my CPC6128, but likely it will go into my tower PC first as I want to test it first.

  15. Having been inspired by some posts yesterday (thank you Ben G), I am upgrading my Gotek and installing FlashFloppy.

Not sure I will keep the LCD display as it seems to be a bit too big, but I was pleased that it was instantly recognised and supported by FlashFloppy.

I will be installing a piezo buzzer and a rotary encoder next...

Eventually the Gotek will end up in my CPC6128.

  16. Quick #Gotek #FlashFloppy question: Can I duplicate/copy a disk image by button press...? I read something like that in this ticket: github.com/keirf/FlashFloppy/i
However I don't see an eject menu on my FF -- using latest firmware.

  17. @robdaemon even the 34-pin cable is just a 26-pin with extra bits to do more than 1 floppy on one ribbon [it works like a primitive bus]...

And with you should be able to make that just work versatile...
