  1. Was ?!

  2. Took apart the #ToshibaT200 after card services was able to recognize my SanDisk memory card once before returning to "could not read CIS area." Looks like a capacitor burst and got some of the legs of what seems to be the #PCMCIA controller... I cleaned it up as best I could but the legs were corroded very badly and I lost a couple...

Can't find a Toshiba Agnes anywhere... might be worth partial delidding with magnet wire? Maybe someday.

At least it still boots. Here's some SimCity!

  3. PCMCIA driver: CFD 1.41

CFD ("CompactFlashDevice") supports using CompactFlash memory cards on the PCMCIA-Port of an A600 or A1200. Jaroslav Pulchart has created a fork of Torsten Jager’s original driver and released driver version 1.41 two weeks ago.

This release focuses on stability and CPU compatibility improvements across both CPU tiers (68000/68010 and 68020+).

  4. Frankly, I miss PCMCIA, and ZIP drives. Computing that required putting chunky cards and cassettes and stuff into drives. Old 90s anime style computing.

I know some of you know exactly what I mean. Please send GIFs that fit that aesthetic, or pictures of your gear that fits the bill 💜

  5. Напечатал пока органайзер для #PCMCIA, ведь у мя их теперь целых две!

  6. Нас ждут дальнейшие приключения, возможно успешные: приехал адаптер #CompactFlash#PCMCIA
Жаль, что у #eMate300 только один слот: или #WiFi, или flash 😩
На крайний случай в хозяйстве есть ещё два ноутбука с #PCcard

  7. *shakes the card at those dang kids passing his house*

You dang kids have no idea how easy you have it with integrated WIFI on your iPad and phones!! In my day we had #PCMCIA cards on our 10lbs laptops!!! (Actually my first WIFI was a PCI card for my desktop.)

I was digging through my tech junk drawer looking for my Pebble charging cable and found this. This thing brings back the memories. I use to do a ton of #wardriving . I never accessed an AP but did scan for them. I legit drove around the twin cities to the point that back in day of 2003, I collected 4,401 AP's with GPS details. Today? That isn't even a 5 mile radius. But in 2003. It was a lot.

  8. Neil Cafferkey has developed a SANA-II-compatible network card driver for PCMCIA cards from the manufacturer Xircom, which can be used with an A600 or A1200:

  9. @scruss No I don't think so, #PCMCIA is pretty-much just the ISA bus broken out into a 68pin connector with some extra stuff. I think #Psion was just mad because their hardware didn't have ISA, and they didn't want to implement it.

  10. #psion really, really hated #PCMCIA

There's two whole pages dedicated to hating it in the SDK docs.

    PCMCIA is just hype!

  11. Oh wow, did the people from #psion hire clairvoyants in 1990! This is exactly what happened with #PCMCIA and the Psion Serial Protocol!

  12. When #thrifting the other day I ran across a mysterious PCMCIA card.

There's a no ports on the back of it, and it comes with a faux leather carrying case. What is it?

Put your guesses below, answer in the next post in a spoiler tag!

  13. @derSammler on the right a 3M “FlashDisk" 5MB PCMCIA Type 1 card, circa 1994

On the left, a 170MB PCMCIA Type III "Storage Card" with a physical spinning disk in, circa about the same time. Both used in early model digital cameras, and PCs with that now extinct slot type

  14. Resale shop find. PCMCIA was the USB/plug 'n' play of its day.

  15. One for the #RetroComputing folks who know their way around #PCMCIA and #PCCard: See the different keying mechanisms here? The top one fits my vintage #IBM laptop, the lower one doesn't.

The original standard was defined for both 5 volt and 3.3 volt cards. The 3.3 V cards have a key on the side to protect them from being damaged by being put into a 5 V-only slot.

I've verified that the lower card is a 3.3v card.

Could it be that my laptop only has a 5v slot?
