I have got a visitor: a dead CBM 4040 disk drive. The symptoms: all LEDs stuck on. No disk activity. This means the 6502 does not boot correctly.
First checks: voltages are correct, reset is working, clock is present.
Next up, OneROM with Piers Finlayson‘s IEEE diag ROM. However that also doesn’t want to boot.

I'm working on a 3D printed Commodore 1541-II case, time for the lid. Eventually found that printing this model upright got me the best result. The print's fine except a fracture on the right side, it was there even when the thing was on the printer bed. I guess the nicely modelled vents cause a structural issue right there. I'm not too worried, I'll get some clear UV resin and reinforce it from the inside. When the lid is in place, there'll be zero stress on that part. #commodore #commodore1541 #3dprinting #floppydrive

I had to modify the plist and shell config scripts I'd setup on the Mac since "upgrading" to macOS 26 Tahoe to get this working without gripes in the terminal.

Guía para construir un Amiga 4000T desde cero
John “Chucky” Hertell ha publicado la primera y segunda parte de una guía técnica para construir un Amiga 4000T desde cero, con enfoque totalmente práctico y avisando que no dará soporte a quienes se desvíen del montaje indicado.
La primera parte recomienda empezar por las daughterboards: placa de conectores y Drive I/O (terminación SCSI, disquetera, lógica 74LS) y la placa de Audio/Video (chips de señal como el CXA1263AM y jumpers para audio de CD). Se destaca un punto crítico: los conectores DSUB requieren modificar sus laterales para encajar. También se detalla el cableado, con dos ribbon cables de 40 pines de longitudes exactas: 20 cm (SHORT) y 25 cm (LONG), conectados según etiquetas para evitar daños en chips como Paula o las CIAs.
La segunda parte entra en la motherboard, donde la alimentación con fuente AT exige seguir la regla de “cable negro al centro” para no quemar la placa. Hertell remarca la soldadura de zócalos PLCC como principal fuente de fallos y propone avances por hitos: comprobar sincronismo tras montar chips como LISA/ALICE/FAT GARY, ajustar el jumper del reloj CPU (INT/EXT según CPU/aceleradora) y usar DiagROM para pruebas iniciales. Finalmente se cubren memoria (hasta 16 MB de Fastmem en placa), recomendaciones de terminación SCSI y detalles de Kickstart 40.70.

We have another Commodore IEEE-488 dual disk drive. It is the predecessor of the 8050 and it is almost compatible with the 1541, the C64's disk drive. This specimen doesn't work, its drives look quite mangled. So let's fix it! But it is never that easy... -
Working on the CBM 4040... The first replacement drive has been cleaned, and the bearings have been lubricated as far as I can reach them.

I think it does have CDROM.SYS. Though note that since I have my #D630 's CD/DVD drive replaced with the FDDM-101 #floppyDrive module, there's no CD/DVD drive connected.

Update on #C64 purchases: The #floppydrive #1541ii & the #BubbleBobbleCollection have arrived. However, the drive was missing the data cable, so I couldn't connect the drive to the #c64c & had to order a new cable for €10.

Some progress with the #Commodore #VC1541 - I added the reset bodge, socketed a few logic chips, and turned it on.
At first, the drive was spinning constantly, but all the logic signals looked fine, including the reset signal.
I then swapped the 6502 from a working 1541-II, and it worked again.
Now, I have a few mechanical issues. An inserted #floppy is thrown out again most times, and the tray doesn't latch in closed position easily.

Finished building the DrawBridge.
It seems to work, but I need to connect an external 5V power supply, since my laptop doesn't provide enough voltage to power the drive.
Also, this #floppy drive was old, and makes squeaky noises when trying to write. The inserted floppy shows scratch markings, too.
So, I'll need a proper floppy drive.
