@Edent I had a rooted phone. Whenever I opened the icici bank app it would crash, open my browser and and say "sorry your phone is rooted" on their website.
what was weird is this would randomly happen throught the day. No notification nothing. In android you have to show a persistent notification to do background processing. But this app was starting on it's own silently.
Thats when I realised banking apps can have MALWARE inside. It's better to use a website.

I see a lot of #closedsource browsers selling themselves as better alternatives to #firefox after the terms of use backlash. I would say firefox is still better. A web browser can know everything about your online life - your web browsing habits, passwords, payment methods, documents etc.
A closed source browser can do anything with your information and evade detection. They may add #enshittification in the future. This is the business model that lead to #googlechrome .
So, in my opinion a web browser has to be open source. Then anyone can inspect it before entrusting it with private information. You can modify or remove things that you don't want too. Remember #waterfox, #zenbrowser, #ironfox, #cromite and #librewolf etc exist because firefox and chromium are #opensource.

@amadeus I have used #florisboard before and really like it. I'm just experimenting with alternate layouts to see how it'll affect my typing speed and if I can build a muscle memory around the 6 fat keys to type without looking at the keyboard like touch typing. It's impossible with qwerty.
#flickboard -
I really like the flickboard keyboard for android. It removes all privacy invading crap like predictions and creates a touch typing like experience.
donwside: learning curve. 🤷🏽♂️

@erici @archlinux I would say you can't install or update packages from #aur without inspecting the pkgbuild.
Aur helpers like #paru make it easy. They even show you what has changed in the build script while upgrading.

I would say the Web isn't dead yet.
Even if #browsers undergo #enshittification , make blocking #ads harder we can still build and consume great web services like the #fediverse , #wikipedia etc.
I feel the responsibility to build ethically and to consume mindfully has increased.
We can create soft forks like #librewolf or #cromite to remove the annoying parts. Really glad that chromium and firefox are still open source.

It's said that on this date lord Shiva swallowed a deadly poison that was going to fall on earth and destroy all life. (There's more context here)
He went into a coma. All beings stayed awake that whole night anxiously waiting for him to recover. That's the wholesome story behind today's festival - Shiva Ratri.

@ramin_hal9001 ooh. If you look at all possible computer programs only very simple ones can be written with branching (if else) and loops.
But all computer programs (no matter how hard or genius the algorithm is) can be written with branching and recursion. So I would just assume they’re doing something very smart by using a recursive algorithm 😆

What client do you use to browse #akkoma on #android ?
I prefer native apps as they are faster and use less data. My experience so far:
#moshidon (Using this app currently) Lightweight, fast and beautiful. Issues with emoji reactions and notifications. Development seems to be stalled.
#pachli Actively developed and really good. Some issues like scrolling of posts when you open the timeline and emoji reactions.
#fedilab Lots of features. But I am not a fan of its looks and there are no updates since a year.
#husky Really good akkoma support.
#phanpy (web) Beautiful and minimalistic. Cannot schedule posts
#elk (web) Beautiful but cannot login.
#mangane (web) Default and minimal web UI for my instance. Can’t figure out a way to browse lists.

Turns out the battery was just wrongly calibrated. It spent a solid 3-4 hours at 0% battery before turning off 😂
I am going to let it drain to 0% overnight on the bios screen and charge it to full. That should fix it once and for all.

#petersinger asked "Would you save a drowning child at the small cost of getting your shirt wet?"
If your answer is yes, you should sacrifice small luxuries like eating out and redirect the savings to #charity .
A tough pill to swallow. But if true, a society that views donation to non-profits as just optional and praiseworthy is evil. It led to #wealthgap , #climatechange , #enshittification and #latestagecapitalism .
Do you agree?

My laptop failed to suspend and drained all its battery. It was at 0% battery for many hours in -10°C temperature. When I charged it, it's almost dead running at 10% capacity.
Is this fixable or should I replace the battery?

I thought I didn't get a verification code from #disroot but it was in the spam folder of #gmail.
I've never seen a verification email sent to spam before. Do you think this an #anticompetition tactic from #google like they suppressed #protonmail in Google search for years?

@anji #nixos is really great! I just moved to a location where data is slow and limited.
#Nix rebuilds all child derivations when a dependency updates. So if there's an update for tiny packages like libc you pretty much have to download 2-6 GB and rebuild your whole system.
I do like transparency and making quick changes in #arch . I'm considering #serpentos . It seems like a nice middle ground.

@sinisterporpoise I used #javascript for a side project. 6 months in, the code became a horrifying mess.
There would be too many warnings and errors in npm. Fixing 1 bug would create 2-3 more. Adding new features became impossible. That codebase still gives me nightmares.
I decided to abandon it and preserve my sanity. Never too late to realise the importance of #typesafety, #testing and keeping #codecomplexity low.

@Linux_Is_Best I disagree. There were #opensource operating systems like #bsd before #linux under a permissive license. Companies like #apple took their work and made #macos without giving back.
#linux is gaining mainstream attention because the linux kernel uses the #gpl2 license. Any derivative works of the Linux kernel should be open source. The #gnu toolchain like compiler, bash, command line tools etc are parts of your Linux distribution.
So GNU made the world take open source seriously.

@petergleick Haha. I was being sarcastic.
That's great. #electricvehicles that run on #SolarEnergy are way better than normal cars.
Still could use some improvements. I'm thinking vehicles that use #LithiumFree batteries and made of materials that don't shed #microplastics. Some day we'll get there. 🤞🏾
