You want to move away from Windows, Google, Apple, Instagram, Bluesky, Twitter, Whatsapp or any of the other big tech monopolies, but you are unsure how and what are the alternatives?

Or you know that already, but you rather want to make that step with others instead of alone?

You just want to discuss in depth what is the coolest of the many alternatives to a service?

Or you are already very deep into the topic and you just want to help others in making the change?

Come around, together we boycott big tech bit by bit.

We meet every first Sunday of the month and every time we replace one more app with a privacy respecting alternative.

🐧 For people who want to change to Linux:

• Bring a computer on which you want to install Linux.

• Bring the appertaining charger with you.

• Bring a big external storage device with a backup of your data. (We recommend to make the backup beforehand).

• Besides your laptop, if possible also bring an empty USB flash drive with at least 4 GB.

• Bring your passwords. (So that you can set up your e-mail, etc. ...)

• Allow at least 2 hours for installation and setup.

#Firefox 153 est là et fait le plein de nouveautés

Ok, mais modifier les paramètres vite fait bien fait en catimini, c'est fort de café là 🤔

J'avais paramétré Firefox à ma sauce et je découvre qu'il en modifie un p'tit bout par-ci, un p'tit par-là, à chaque nouvelle mise à jour.

Vérifiez vos paramètres avant et après la mise à jour.

Finalement, je me suis lancé, je l'ai installé, paramétré à ma sauce et je suis content de retrouver mon cadenas vert aussi et j'en passe 😃

Je garde quand même Firefox, mais il me servira que dans certains cas et plus quotidienement...

Lo chistoso de la gente que se cambia de navegador por razones puramente ideológicas, es que terminan usando algún fork que depende **sí o sí** del software del que se quieren desapegar: se van de #Firefox a #Waterfox o #Librewolf quesque porque "quiero demostrar que no estoy de acuerdo con #Mozilla".

Y olvidan (o ignoran) que sin Firefox y Mozilla, su fork no duraría ni un mes activo. Así que al final siguen apoyando a Mozilla, quieran o no 🤷‍♂️️.

Waterfox added Qwant as its default search engine as a way to gain revenue. I've never used Qwant before today. They (quant) have some cookie settings you can't turn off and which I consider unacceptable.

So I've set Waterfox to nuke cookies on exit (which I do for most of my browsers anyway).

I have a fool proof search engine test which fails on most search engines. It worked on Qwant. So I guess that's a search engine worth considering if you can deal with the cookie shit. (I'm not publicly describing the test because, if the search engines know about it, they can carve out an exception to their nonsense to make themselves look like they have a functional search engine. And then I'd have to find a new test which would be very annoying.)

It's starting to look like something might have broken in @zenbrowser glance mode after this last update. I've had the browser lock up several times and I'm still not exactly sure what's causing it.
