For the next #IronFox release, we intend to remove built-in DNS over HTTPS providers that do not have their addresses signed with DNSSEC and/or do not enforce DNSSEC for domains that support it. We're making this change because we believe it's our responsibility to hold the default selection of providers to the highest possible standards, and due to the improvement in privacy and security that it will provide for users.
The following providers will be impacted:
- AdGuard
- AdGuard (Unfiltered)
- NextDNS
- Quad9
- WikimediaUnfortunately, as Quad9 is one of the providers impacted, we intend to switch the default provider for new users to Mullvad (Base).
If you are currently using any of the effected providers, your choice will be respected, and they will remain your selected DNS provider after updating, though we would strongly recommend switching to one of the other built-in providers if possible.
We wanted to share this announcement before release to make users aware and get feedback around this change. We look forward to hearing what the community thinks!

FYI for #IronFox Obtainium users:
Due to changes in how we upload/handle releases (Notably, we now upload them to releases.ironfoxoss.org), the current Obtainium configuration no longer works as expected.
To resolve the issues and ensure you keep receiving updates, please remove your current configuration, and add your preferred new/fixed configuration from here:

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your time/support!

:firefox: We have the year 2026 and after all this time it is still a royal pain in the ass to export and import #Firefox bookmarks on #Android. 😩 And third-party solution such as #Floccus are still not available for Android.
Any other suggestions or workarounds (other than a Firefox account)? :thinking_rotate:

Ironfox on Android does not autocomplete what I'm typing based on history, it seems to work only for bookmarks and other tabs. I do have history enabled, so I see visited URLs when I open the history. Which setting do I need for autocompleting URLsfrom history In the URL bar?

Hi everyone, we, #IronFox, are excited to announce that we’ve officially migrated our issue tracker to @Codeberg : https://codeberg.org/ironfox-oss/bugs/issues. **Issues will no longer be accepted on GitLab and in any repo outside of this one**.
This will allow us to be far better organized and more efficient/productive - as instead of having several different issue trackers (one for each of our repos) across two different sites (GitLab and Codeberg), we’ll now have a single, unified, and accessible place for all issues. It’ll also make it a lot easier for users to navigate and search through existing/already filed issues.
We look forward to hearing what the community thinks of this change!

😊👉 https://inv.thepixora.com/watch?v=Bl0b3vWcBuA

Anyone know how to revert the horrendous new #Firefox #Android menu design?
It is slow, clumsy and it is even harder to reach extension icons than before.
And extensions. Are. The. Only. Reason. To. Use. Firefox. (Apart from Privacy, if you harden it a lot).
I couldnt find an about:config to revert the menu redesign. #Ironfox showed a menu for that for some time.

Sadly, the new design^Wabomination from #Mozilla landed to the new release of #IronFox (148.0.1) on the Android :drgn_cry_loud:
Instead of damn simple and concise main menu, I forced to see a gigantic panel now. Like I don't have fingers — I have a ten sausages instead.
And rounded things, rounded things everywhere! Because this is a redesign in sake of redesign — it is not customizable and I can't switch back to rectangular things in the settings :drgn_knife_angry:
Luckily, at least for now, I'm still able to revert this shitty designer vomit. Because you know, I'm not so young dragon, so I remember the eons when it was valuable — do not break user habits by constantly changing the UI layout and UI elements (read the fucking Palm Design Guidelines, for example).
The recipe:
1) Go to: IronFox main menu — Settings — About IronFox
2) Tap a lot of times to the big IronFox logo. The text "Debug menu enabled" should appear on the screen for a few seconds
3) Go to: IronFox main menu — Settings — Secret Settings
4) Disable the next items: "Enable Menu Redesign", "Enable Composable Toolbar"Done! You are free from "new UI", which forcefeeded to users of Firefox (and forks) by Mozilla (again) :drgn_sparkle:
-
The new Ironfox UI seems pretty alright. I've been using Firefox on Android like idk, late 2019. Only switched to a fork like Mull 4 years ago then moved to Ironfox when that stuff got discontinued.
It's been a long long while anyway and I think it was about time to see something different too.
I can't seem swipe from tab to tab on the new UI though but I'll adapt I guess. It's no big deal. I'll prolly just miss it

Firefox for Android looks great now that the UI has been migrated to Material 3.
Also, the secret settings menu now has toggles for isolated content proccesses (at least in IronFox), meaning that the browser should offer proper site isolation when they are enabled.
Btw, both IronFox and Fennec are fully functional even without Google Play Services, including FIDO2 and UnifiedPush support.
If you need push notifications, you can use Sunup to connect to Mozilla's push server and use it as a UnifiedPush distributor for both Firefox forks and other compatible apps.
Both IronFox and Sunup are available in Accrescent and some F-Droid repos.#Firefox #Android #AOSP #GrapheneOS #IronFox #UI #Mozilla #SiteIsolation #Sunup #Accrescent #DeGoogle #PlayTheXenoSeries

:firefox: As of version 147 #Firefox on #Android FINALLY supports #SiteIsolation, making side channel attack much more difficult and improving security:
https://www.firefox.com/en-US/firefox/android/147.0/releasenotes/Site Isolation groups and isolates websites on individual sandboxes processes. More info:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Site_isolation
https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2021/05/18/introducing-site-isolation-in-firefox/Also applies to #IronFox, #Fennec and such (check their release notes).

Still using #FireFox?
Consider switching to a sane fork of FF such as #LibreWolf, #Mullvad, #Fennec, #IronFox, etc.
These forks use the Mozilla Firefox codebase, but do not include the BS moz has been jamming into it lately.

Is anyone else using Google Android (not a custom rom) with IronFox via fdroid having problems with Fido2/WebAuthn? I was wondering if this might be down to the fact that "While IronFox removes the proprietary Google Play FIDO library, it replaces it with its FOSS microG equivalent"?
