  1. Tiny Terra, Big Ambition: Ludus Pax Studios Unveils Cosy Scottish Island Builder ‘Tiny Terra Spaces’

Glasgow-based Ludus Pax Studios has officially unveiled its third commercial title, Tiny Terra Spaces, a relaxing, low-poly island builder that brings a More Than Games twist to the traditional city-building genre.

Led by solo developer Silviu Soare – a First Class Honours graduate and double court medal winner – in collaboration with artist Penny, Ludus Pax is moving away from high-stress mechanics to embrace the growing “cosy games” movement. Inspired by the rich history and natural beauty of Scotland’s islands, Tiny Terra Spaces offers players a non-violent, meditative experience where the primary goal is simply to bring a world to life at one’s own pace.

Building the Future of Scottish Digital Heritage

What sets Tiny Terra Spaces apart is its potential for educational impact. Alongside its Sandbox and Island Hop modes, the studio has outlined plans for a “Serious Game Hop Mode.” Developed in collaboration with universities, this mode aims to allow players to discover the real-life history and traditions of Scotland’s islands as they play.

“I’ve always wanted to create a city builder, but as a solo developer, I knew I had to find a way to make it manageable and meaningful,” says Silviu Soare. “Tiny Terra Spaces is a project that feels like the right fit at the right time – tapping into the demand for stress-free, wholesome experiences while celebrating the country I proudly call home.”

Key Features of Tiny Terra Spaces:

    • Relaxed Growth: Start with a single tile and expand into a charming medieval community.
    • Environmental Interaction: Discover unique biomes, animals, and NPCs that inhabit your islands.
    • No Pressure Gameplay: No enemies, no timers, and no danger—focusing entirely on creativity and resource management.
    • Modern Tech: Built in Unity 6, featuring a low-poly aesthetic created in Blender.

    Support for Indie Success

Ludus Pax is already a studio with a proven track record, having previously shipped Rise of the Village Hero and Path to Serenity. Tiny Terra Spaces represents an evolution for the studio, moving toward modular design that allows for significant future expansion.

The studio is currently seeking partnerships, grants, and is preparing for a Kickstarter campaign to help bring the “Serious Game” mode to fruition. Developers, publishers, and fans can currently try the demo on Steam and follow the project’s progress via the studio’s official channels.

  3. Okwui Enwezor: Curator, thinker, and visionary. A legacy that broke boundaries and challenged the art world's Western-centric canon. His curatorial work and writings, now immortalized in a two-volume collection, beckon us to reimagine art's place in a globalized world. How can Enwezor's vision inspire us to rethink the narratives in the spaces we inhabit? 🌍🎨 #ArtLegacy #WorldBuilder #artnews

  5. Writing Tip:
Choosing a memorable name for a pub can leave a lasting impression on readers, and also hint at some sort of local folklore or history.

  8. I haven’t named these creatures yet, but they are the main livestock for Eloailsa.

They are used for plowing soil, milk, and they are even sheared for the wool in summer. The wool is the primary fibre source for the village.

They are not fast runners, so if their young is threatened, adults form a circle of defence. Their large and rotating ears help warn them of danger.

  10. #WorldBuilding : Fishing customs!

For the village of Eloailsa, the nearby lake provides fish, water greens, and clams. The fish and greens are preserved for the long winters, and many villagers spend mornings and evenings collecting or fishing along the shore.

I took heavy inspiration from Scottish history for the creel basket designs, but they seem to be almost universal around the world.

  11. The can be broadly defined as information based item, so looking to the Cypher System rulebook, there are many options for abilities to use as the character advances.

Running a Cypher game this way changes things in that the item gains abilities while the character does not. If that doesn't fit with your game, then you can alternate between the character and the artifact as the story advances.

A supers game like d616 could in the same ways.12/

Does your world have vampires? If so, how do they function? What are their weaknesses? If you have a fantasy setting or setting with magic, why did you choose to add or forgo vampires?

  20. As a worldbuilder I have become over-analytical on culture, especially American and Western culture. How important building the railroads was to us as a country and how greatly it influenced our culture. I would recommend anyone pickup worldbuilding as a hobby, its kinda philosophical in a way. You'll learn alot just looking into your own world...

...but then you'll wanna yell at the world for how silly it is.

Children and Champions of the Fey is some of my favorite work as a writer. It showcases much of what I do best — drawing inspiration from #history and #mythology, finding new ways to present familiar tropes and archetypes, and being intentionally inclusive in terms of gender and other identities (my chapter makes it clear that anyone, of any gender, can be a Green Witch).

If this is the kind of content that speaks to you, I hope you'll check it out. And if you've got an idea that you'd like to work on together, come say hi!

Thanks for coming along on my first #ThrowbackThursday on Mastadon!
