My latest addition to the geologic/spatial library/tchotchkes in my office at work…
This should be useful - along with the button maker and old maps for kids to select, cut out and make their own map buttons – on spatial outreach days and similar…

  3. Happy birthday to Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594) renown Flemish cartographer.

What made Mercator a great #cartographer, was in fact his abilities as a #mathematician -and like those of us scientists who feel compelled also to create art he was wasn’t hindered by his immense ability as an engraver. He produced beautiful world maps (a version of which is depicted in this print), 🧵1/

The geology of the ocean floor is truly spectacular — perhaps even more than land geology. Unfortunately, it's really hard to study.

  10. I miss being a video game #cartographer. There's a sweet satisfaction in creating detailed maps instead of just the overview world maps provided by the game. No, I'm not as good as them 👇🏽

  17. 4 [Of Many] Careers In GIS [ / Spatial Data] With Great Job Outlooks

[I am not associated with this university in any way, just thought that it was an informative article]
[My personal take is that unless you want specifically to be ‘Spatial Super Hero’ then pick a professional field that you appreciate & interests you - and then use GIS / spatial data skills to support that with your gained knowledge. Note that this field will almost certainly change over your career and that is A-OK; I started out as an engineering geologist, still keep my license current, then environmental scientist including nuclear site cleanups, and now work in the area of spatial data for hydrology, next is…]
