  1. Tiny Terra, Big Ambition: Ludus Pax Studios Unveils Cosy Scottish Island Builder ‘Tiny Terra Spaces’

Glasgow-based Ludus Pax Studios has officially unveiled its third commercial title, Tiny Terra Spaces, a relaxing, low-poly island builder that brings a More Than Games twist to the traditional city-building genre.

Led by solo developer Silviu Soare – a First Class Honours graduate and double court medal winner – in collaboration with artist Penny, Ludus Pax is moving away from high-stress mechanics to embrace the growing “cosy games” movement. Inspired by the rich history and natural beauty of Scotland’s islands, Tiny Terra Spaces offers players a non-violent, meditative experience where the primary goal is simply to bring a world to life at one’s own pace.

Building the Future of Scottish Digital Heritage

What sets Tiny Terra Spaces apart is its potential for educational impact. Alongside its Sandbox and Island Hop modes, the studio has outlined plans for a “Serious Game Hop Mode.” Developed in collaboration with universities, this mode aims to allow players to discover the real-life history and traditions of Scotland’s islands as they play.

“I’ve always wanted to create a city builder, but as a solo developer, I knew I had to find a way to make it manageable and meaningful,” says Silviu Soare. “Tiny Terra Spaces is a project that feels like the right fit at the right time – tapping into the demand for stress-free, wholesome experiences while celebrating the country I proudly call home.”

Key Features of Tiny Terra Spaces:

    • Relaxed Growth: Start with a single tile and expand into a charming medieval community.
    • Environmental Interaction: Discover unique biomes, animals, and NPCs that inhabit your islands.
    • No Pressure Gameplay: No enemies, no timers, and no danger—focusing entirely on creativity and resource management.
    • Modern Tech: Built in Unity 6, featuring a low-poly aesthetic created in Blender.

    Support for Indie Success

Ludus Pax is already a studio with a proven track record, having previously shipped Rise of the Village Hero and Path to Serenity. Tiny Terra Spaces represents an evolution for the studio, moving toward modular design that allows for significant future expansion.

The studio is currently seeking partnerships, grants, and is preparing for a Kickstarter campaign to help bring the “Serious Game” mode to fruition. Developers, publishers, and fans can currently try the demo on Steam and follow the project’s progress via the studio’s official channels.

  3. First Look: Build Cosy Scottish Themed Islands In Tiny Terra Spaces

We are delighted to share a first look at Tiny Terra Spaces, a charming and ‘cosy’ new title currently in development at Scottish-based solo development studio Ludus Pax. This relaxing island builder, set in a world inspired by the islands of Scotland, promises a wholesome and focused experience for players.

Developed by solo founder Silviu, Ludus Pax Games and in part-time collaboration with VFX artist Penny. Tiny Terra Spaces is a perfect example of the passionate, creative talent emerging from Scotland’s indie development scene. While the game is still in development, a playable WebGL version is already available, giving players a taste of the gameplay.

Tiny Terra Spaces is a minimalist, resource-management game where you build and grow your own Scottish-themed island. Instead of the pressures of a typical city-builder, the game focuses on creating a peaceful, satisfying experience. Players will place buildings and expand their islands to generate essential resources, helping their small community to grow and thrive.

In a recent devlog, founder Silviu shared his vision for the game, outlining plans for an “endless sandbox mode” and continuous improvements based on player feedback. He is actively encouraging players to share their thoughts and become part of the game’s ongoing development journey.

The game promises to feature a “Hop island mode” where players will be able to sail off to new islands once certain progress is achieved. There is also hope for a  Serious game mode, such as a ‘historical hop’ mode (depending upon funding and stretch goals).

In the Serious game mode, Silviu is hoping to focus on Scottish islands’ history, learn about medieval times, local island clans and the vital roles some of islands in Scottish history and independence. All in the same fun and cosy style.

Why the name Tiny Terra Spaces? Silviu says “while the project begins with Scotland, I want the concept to remain flexible and expandable. Future themes could include Nordic, Japanese or other cultures and regions”.

Silviu continues”My main goal is to create a relaxing experience for the player,” Silviu writes. “I want to create a game that can be played for a few minutes or for hours on end.”

    Tiny Terra Spaces features:

    • A cosy Island builder: A chill, stress-free experience focused on building a beautiful island chain.
    • Light economy management: Carefully place and combine islands to produce the resources your community needs to flourish.
    • Interact with buildings and inhabitants.
    • Scottish-inspired animals and biomes : Discover traditional Scottish island wildlife, flora and hand crafted biomes.
    • Wholesome & Relaxing: Designed from the ground up to be a peaceful and satisfying game.
    • Choose your own background music: Unlock music themes by placing taverns and hiring bards to shape your island atmosphere.
    • Zoom in and admire your creation. Watch your little world grow.
    • Endless replayability: Once you are done, start again with endless layout possibilities.
    • An island hop mechanic where you progress to a new island once you have achieved a set number of resources or people, discovering new islands.

Supporting our homegrown, independent developers is crucial for the health and creativity of the entire Scottish games ecosystem. This is a chance to support an emerging local talent at the very beginning of his career and help shape the future of his creation.

The game is coming soon to Kickstarter and Steam. You can play the early WebGL version now and sign up to be notified as soon as the Kickstarter campaign goes live.
