  5. Wetherspoons beer festival to hit Swansea this week

The Potters Wheel in The Kingsway, The Bank Statement in Wind Street, The Red Lion Inn in Sway Road, Morriston, and The Mardy Inn in High Street, Gorseinon, will host the festival from Wednesday 4th to Sunday 15th March inclusive.

The overseas brewers are from Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the USA. It is the first time the Wetherspoon pubs have served a real ale from Mexico.

Almost all of the beers on offer have been brewed for the first time, exclusively for the festival. Among the festival collection are three vegan (also suitable for vegetarians) beers.

As well as featuring a range of different malt and hop varieties from around the world, there are also beers that include coffee, elderflower, hibiscus, maple syrup, orange and vanilla, in their ingredients.

The beers will cost at £2.20 a pint.

The international beers are Tropical (Cervejaria Bodebrown, Brazil), Read the Room (Good Word Brewing, USA), Session IPA (Malteza, Mexico), Vicious IPA (Almogaver, Spain), Nigredo (Birrificio Italiano, Italy).

The festival line up also includes Lucky ‘Lips (Shepherd Neame), Pitch Perfect (Vale), Crimson Legend (Brains), Salem Coastal Confusion (Batemans), Shug Monkey (Elgood’s), Brewed Awakening (Hook Norton).

The Bank Statement manager Ben Edwards said:

“The festival is a great celebration of real ale.

“It will allow us to showcase a selection of superb beers, featuring many not previously available to our customers in the pub, including those from brewers as far afield as Mexico and Brazil as well as those closer to home, over a 12-day period.

“All of the beers will be available at great value-for-money prices.”

Three third-of-a-pint tasters will also be available for the price of a pint.

Tasting notes on all of the beers will be available in the pub as part of the festival magazine (a digital version will also be available on the Wetherspoon app and website).

All ales will be available to order at the bar or via the Wetherspoon app.

  9. #Wetherspoon bans #Scottish #banknotes across hundreds of pubs

    #WTF

Bosses at the bar chain reportedly instructed staff not to accept any Scottish £20 and £50 notes from late November last year.

The decision comes after #Wetherspoons bosses were warned by the Bank of England last October that a large number of fake Scottish £20 notes were being put into circulation by organised crime gangs, according Scottish Sun.
