News: In 2020, the European Investment Fund provided capital for Israeli spyware company #Paragon Solutions through an Israeli venture capital fund.

Founded in 2019 by former PM Ehud Barak and a former head of #Unit8200, the cyber warfare unit of the Israeli military, Paragon was acquired by a US private equity firm at the end of 2024.

It's spyware has been used against activists and journalists. In the US Paragon’s contract with #ICE was recently reactivated.

This week’s trip to Hawaii and back for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit–with that company paying my airfare and lodging for its invitation-only event–reminded me once again of the vast size of the United States. And yet I was able to wake up painfully early Friday morning on Maui, take a flight to San Francisco, board a second flight from SFO to Dulles, and land at IAD in time to catch the night’s last eastbound Silver Line train from the airport.

Microsoft scarica l’intelligence israeliana e blocca l’accesso ai suoi servizi di archiviazione e di intelligenza artificiale. Lo racconta il Guardian, citando fonti informate dei fatti e documenti che confermerebbero il cambio di rotta dell’azienda statunitense. La collaborazione tra Microsoft e il governo israeliano aveva già provocato proteste da parte dell’opinione pubblica e dagli stessi dipendenti dell’azienda statunitense. La dirigenza, però, aveva sempre sostenuto che i servizi forniti non riguardassero direttamente operazioni militari.

La vicenda ha subito un’accelerazione questa estate, quando il quotidiano britannico, in collaborazione con il magazine +972 e Local Call, ha pubblicato un’inchiesta che collegava i sistemi di Microsoft a uno strumento di sorveglianza di massa gestito dalla famigerata Unit 8200, la punta di diamante dei servizi segreti israeliani. Nel dettaglio, il meccanismo allestito dal governo di Tel Aviv prevedeva l’intercettazione e registrazione di tutte le comunicazioni telefoniche dei cittadini palestinesi. Secondo quanto emerso, il materiale sarebbe utilizzato sia per individuare i bersagli delle azioni dell’IDF, sia per supportare le accuse (in molti casi a posteriori) ai danni dei cittadini palestinesi arrestati e incarcerati dal governo israeliano.
