"A conference on Palestine scheduled for Saturday has found a new venue after the University of Southern Maine said it would no longer sponsor the event because one of the planned speakers is subject to sanctions by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

"The 'Consequence of Palestine' event will now be hosted at the First Parish Congregational Church in Gorham, and is scheduled to proceed on the same date, organizers with the #MaineCoalitionForPalestine and #MaineVoicesForPalestinianRights announced Thursday.

"University officials told organizers late last week they could no longer use Hannaford Hall on the USM’s Portland campus for the event after learning that speaker #FrancescaAlbanese is on the Office of Foreign Assets Controls’ #SanctionsLlist.

"#Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on #HumanRights in the #OccupiedPalestinianTerritories, was slapped with sanctions in July after she wrote letters to several major American businesses, telling them she planned to name them in a U.N. report for contributing to human rights violations by #Israel; the #StateDepartment called the letters campaigns of political and #EconomicWarfare. "The Russians repeatedly floated the idea of a 'very strange swap arrangement between Venezuela and Ukraine,' Hill said during a congressional hearing in 2019. Her comments surfaced again this week and were shared on social media after the U.S. stealth operation to capture Maduro.

The United States does NOT have the right, as Trump stated this morning, to 'run' Venezuela. Congress must immediately pass a #WarPowers resolution to end this illegal military operation and reassert its constitutional responsibilities.

"Trump’s attack on Venezuela will make the #UnitedStates and the world less safe. The White House says it’s considering 'a range of options,' including the use of military force. Danish Prime Minister #MetteFrederiksen has warned that if the U.S. were to attack Greenland, it would spell the end of #NATO.

" 'Greenland is not up for sale,' says #AajuPeter, a Greenlandic #Inuit activist and attorney, who says #IndigenousGreenlanders want their independence from both the U.S. and Denmark.

Excerpt: "Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark, has once again become a point of heated international discussion, after White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller told CNN on Monday it's 'the formal position of the U.S. government ... that Greenland should be part of the United States,' and after Mr. Trump this weekend said the U.S. needs Greenland.

"Denmark has long rebuffed the Trump administration's interest in Greenland, reiterating that rebuke this week. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said an American military move to seize control of Greenland would amount to the end of the NATO military alliance. Denmark is a NATO member, and NATO's Article 5 states that if a NATO ally suffers an armed attack, all members will consider it an attack on them as well and do what they need to aid the attacked nation.

" 'If the United States chooses to attack another NATO country militarily, then everything stops,' Frederiksen told local media on Monday. 'That is, including our NATO, and thus the security that has been provided since the end of the Second World War.' "

"President Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed 'Peace President,' detonated his own #AmericaFirst campaign promise of '#NoNewWars' over the weekend with an act of war in Venezuela.

The U.S. military attacked Venezuela early Saturday morning, abducting its leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who now face narco-terrorism charges in a New York federal court. Eighty Venezuelan and Cuban citizens were killed by U.S. gunfire and airstrikes.

"At least one U.S. missile struck an apartment building in the port city of Catia La Mar, killing an 80-year-old woman as she slept, seriously injuring another and displacing residents, according to The Associated Press. Trump described the attack as 'successful' and 'perfectly executed.'
A growing number of legal experts and lawmakers have called Saturday’s bombing of Venezuela and the abduction of Maduro illegal under both international law and the U.S. Constitution.

"And yet, the Trump administration is already threatening further military action against Venezuela and other sovereign nations in pursuit of his so-called '#DonroeDoctrine,' the refashioning of the 1823 #MonroeDoctrine, which American leaders with #imperialist ambitions have used to justify #USOccupations across #LatinAmerica throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

" 'Under our new national security strategy, American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never be questioned again,' Trump said Saturday at a press conference following the attack on Venezuela. 'Under the Trump administration, we are reasserting American power in a very powerful way in our home region.'

"Though Trump campaigned on the promise of ending foreign wars, even before the attack on Venezuela, his second term has been defined by a ruthless and interventionist approach.
He has already ordered military strikes in #Iran, #Iraq, #Nigeria, #Somalia, #Syria and #Yemen. Before abducting Maduro, the U.S. military attacked a Venezuelan port, and killed more than 100 civilians in bombings in the #CaribbeanSea and #PacificOcean. In addition, Trump continues to arm #Israel as it violates the ceasefire with Hamas, grinding the #genocide in #Gaza into a third year.
Mere hours before the U.S. bombed Venezuela on Saturday, Trump threatened to attack Iran over its violent crackdowns on protesters, writing on social media that the U.S. is 'locked and loaded and ready to go.'

"And since carrying out Venezuela raid, the Trump administration has taken aim at Cuba and #Colombia, hinted at intervention in #Mexico, renewed annexation aspirations in #Greenland, and reiterated threats to Iran."
