Everything they are saying about the negative people on the left who criticise #UpScrolled, I say applies to how the left shun the #Fediverse.
They talk about people foolishly demanding #SocialMedia be perfect when they've already brushed #Mastodon aside. Mastodon isn't perfect but it's certainly better than other capitalist endeavours and platforms that can only exist by pushing ads into people's feeds.
Basically, they are willing to compromise when it suits them, but for Fedi, those compromises are suddenly too much.

Yeah, at the end they discuss that moving to #UpScrolled shouldn't have to be migrating. That you can get an account and start posting while still using your old social media accounts.
But that is something that so many on the left haven't done for the #Fediverse. Maybe engagement isn't high enough in a fast enough way, but I don't feel many have actually decided to dedicate a lot of time to Fedi, and certainly a lot of popular bloggers haven't come anywhere near Fedi.
It seems to me like the corporate side of social media, the single owners, and promise of ads and profit making is something many on the left insist upon before they bother with a #SocialMedia platform. Maybe they need a legacy newspaper to tell them to join.
The left get turned on more with capitalist initiatives.

I think I should also mention that every time I use the #UpScrolled app I get three or four new followers with AI-generated avatars, who either only post selfies, haven't posted anything at all, or post about giving away free money or something similar.
Probably about 99% of my followers are scammers or bots.
That's a poor user experience.
Those people can be blocked or ignored, and you can search for the people you want to look at, but I've found that quite hard.

Here is #IssamHijazi of #UpScrolled speaking about his experiences with people attacking his app.
He also talks about improvements to UpScrolled but nothing being said makes me particularly excited about the app. It just sounds like another version of all the same old platforms, just this time it's owned by a Palestinian and not the usual Western-aligned capitalists.
I still think the app is worth being on, but when they talk about 'growth' and introducing #ads it just sounds like it will succumb to #enshitification eventually. There's a mention of #Mastodon but Mastodon just isn't news-pushing and corporate enough for some people on the left.

It is troubling (damn the spell checker and my blind eyes posting without reading) to see the number of fake accounts on UpScrolled posting antisemitic comments without any reaction from the moderators
In the early days, it was mostly porn that was posted on the app, now they have turned into Antisemitism, same kind of profiles, but unfortunately the moderators don't stop, ban or block them

On #UpScrolled you regularly get scam accounts following you. They are easy to spot.
One tell is that they've only posted 5 or 6 posts and they're all selfies. These selfies usually look #AI
Here's one recently. Look at the background. It's like the tree is a small Christmas tree but further back the detail is confusing. It's like the tree is very close to him then lower down there's no lower part. It's like he's got snow resting on his head.
Very odd.

I've got the new edition of @ethicalconsumer #EthicalConsumer magazine now. Top pick from the social media platforms? @Mastodon !
Behind them - also "best buy"s - were #friendica,, #Lemmy, #Monnet and #Upscrolled. Bluesky was just behind.
Unsurprisingly all the "big" ones were at the bottom, although Bluesky didn't fare too badly.
They also review #AI tools with #Thaura and Proton's #Lumo being the only two recommended ones with Google and Microsoft at the bottom.

I've used UpScrolled before, and using Threads gives a very similar feel to that.
I really wish UpScrolled was in the Fediverse. It's a beautiful social network.

Maybe I should elaborate why I'm such a fan of #rednote (#xiaohongshu, chinese instagram basically) and #upscrolled (basically antiimperialist instagram).
They both are not open source and I dont know to what extend my data is used without my consent. Upscrolled claims to not use it at all. I dont have a reason to believe them or not to.
Why then do I frequent them?
Easy: its because they provide non white, non western perspective. It helps you see the selective empathy on mastodon.

The new social media #UpScrolled is a much better alternative for most people. Although it's not as good as #Mastodon, but most people will always care about convenience over everything. -

FWIW I've been on #Upscrolled for about a month now. TBH It's kinda monotonous. One Redditor called it "#TruthSocial for #Tankies" which IMHO is at least partly true. Die Palästina solidarischen Menschen hier sollten auf jeden Fall #upscrolled angucken. Auch wenn das #fediverse ein großartiges system ist das gut funktioniert gibt es hier zu viele weiße, privilegierte stimmen und zu wenige von nicht tech interessierten, ethnischen minderheiten.
Deswegen empfehle ich infos zum globalen süden dort gegen zu checken. Besonders um gegen zionistische hasbara resistent zu werden.

I really want to use #UpScrolled but it has so many bugs that it is hard to use it to replace TikTok.
One of the most annoying one is this "zero length video" that happens to most of videos I download from #telegram.
The other one is the edit function
It's almost impossible to edit typoes. -
