  1. I've used UpScrolled before, and using Threads gives a very similar feel to that.

I really wish UpScrolled was in the Fediverse. It's a beautiful social network.

    >> #Russia and #China have vetoed the disgraceful draft resolution on #Iran and the Strait of Hormuz tabled by Bahrain that would have excused US-Israel aggression and expanded the war on Iran. #Colombia and #Pakistan abstained. A hopeful moment in a long period of shame for the UN Security Council.

  7. FWIW I've been on #Upscrolled for about a month now. TBH It's kinda monotonous. One Redditor called it "#TruthSocial for #Tankies" which IMHO is at least partly true. It's early days so I'm not deleting my account just yet but in case anyone is wondering you're not missing much over there! #SocialMedia #Tech #Culture #Politics aljazeera.com/news/2026/1/29/w

    >> >> >>
The UN Security Council will consider another outrageous resolution tomorrow, this time drafted by Bahrain (the current UNSC President and a US-Israel ally). A month into the US-Israel unlawful aggression on #Iran, the draft is entirely silent on the aggression, its perpetrators, and on ending the attacks, and instead seeks to expand the conflict by authorizing military force against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz and even in Iranian territorial waters... There are hopeful indications that China & Russia may (finally) stand up to veto this dangerous draft, and even France has expressed reservations. But the #UNSC has twice gone rogue in recent months, trampling on international law and buttressing US-Israeli impunity, and has done nothing to stop the Palestinian genocide or the invasion of #Lebanon, so one could not guarantee that this latest outrage will be stopped.

  11. Maybe I should elaborate why I'm such a fan of #rednote (#xiaohongshu, chinese instagram basically) and #upscrolled (basically antiimperialist instagram).

They both are not open source and I dont know to what extend my data is used without my consent. Upscrolled claims to not use it at all. I dont have a reason to believe them or not to.

Why then do I frequent them?

Easy: its because they provide non white, non western perspective. It helps you see the selective empathy on mastodon.

The new social media #UpScrolled is a much better alternative for most people. Although it's not as good as #Mastodon, but most people will always care about convenience over everything.

    >> The Global Sumud Flotilla condemns in the strongest possible terms the coordinated military strikes launched by the United States and Israeli regimes against Iran, and we urgently call on people around the world to mobilize to stop the escalation and demand meaningful accountability for the violations that enabled it.

    >> #Gaza and #Iran are not separate crises. They are linked expressions of a longstanding US-Israeli doctrine of domination that reshapes regions through force, targeting and isolating any state or movement that challenges its expansionist agenda.

    >> From Gaza to Tehran, from Havana to Caracas, from every corner of the world where people refuse to accept this imposed order, we stand together…

  16. I really want to use #UpScrolled but it has so many bugs that it is hard to use it to replace TikTok.

One of the most annoying one is this "zero length video" that happens to most of videos I download from #telegram.

The other one is the edit function
It's almost impossible to edit typoes.

This past week had me flying a long distance to trade snow for sand, in the form of Web Summit Qatar. This coming week will also have me flying from snow to sand, but not nearly as far: I’m headed to Las Vegas for the customer-experience company Medallia’s annual conference. (The organizers of each event are covering my travel costs.)

My one panel at Web Summit’s Qatar conference had me quizzing John Spinale, chief strategy officer at Robust.ai, about how that company has gone about designing robots to help ease the work of humans in warehouses.

I’ve been wondering why Ookla issues scores for AT&T’s fiber broadband, ignoring the rest of that company’s residential broadband services, while it grades other providers on a company-wide basis, and this time I asked Ookla far enough ahead of time to get a clear answer to include in my writeup of this survey.

Watching UpScrolled founder and CEO Issam Hijazi go on at Web Summit Qatar’s opening night about how that social platform would not practice censorship reminded me of all of the other times I’ve seen other social-networking executives say versions of that and then be proved wrong by reality.

  27. It’s disheartening—and yes, unsurprising—to see the public response to TikTok’s demise is almost entirely a mixture of apathy and willingness to try another VC-backed big tech-wannabe “replacement.” It doesn’t influence my decision, but it sure would be nice if the fediverse was more widely understood.

Regardless, I’m grateful for all the devs who make it a cool place to be, whether big or small :)

  28. In response to #TikTok censoring criticism of ICE being one of the first acts Larry Ellison did after taking over, two rival social media platforms have seen surges in users.

    First is
#UpScrolled, a TikTok-esque platform that is at least is made by a Palestinian living in Australia so it has something going for it beyond the typical new social media hype.

    Second is
#Skylight, a Mark Cuban funded TikTok-like that runs on At Proto (aka Bluesky) founded by a pair of pro-AI tech bros who think the problem with social media is seeing too much news that makes them sad or angry.

Skylight is so obviously the wrong choice that it's pretty much guaranteed to win.

  29. Alternative shot video sites away from TikTok. TikTok was purchased to view your personal data for the corrupt regime in the US!

Please to all, repost and convince others to leave TikTok to protect other's personal data including yours!

  32. I really want to use #UpScrolled but it has so many bugs that it is hard to use it to replace TikTok.
