Just attended the most uncomfortable class I think I've ever been in. It's a writing course in which people share their works, and one student, with no content warnings whatsoever, launched into an incredibly graphic story about the sexual assault of a minor. It just kept going and going and going.
While I think the story definitely had value, I also understand the furor. The story didn't make me as upset as all the people being triggered around me did. The class erupted into arguments about artistic merit, censorship, boundaries, and the silencing of PoC/women's experience. I think I should've just left because that drama was helluva nasty to experience.

Advice about #TriggerWarnings/content warnings:
1. Don't just write "Trigger Warning" at the top of your post, skip a line or two, and then put the thing. Instead, use the CW feature built into Mastodon. Below the text entry field, there's a row of icons, usually starting with a paper clip and then a globe. Somewhere in there, there should be one like a little "CW" or an exclamation point.
That hides the scary stuff unless someone deliberately opens it.

CW: Trauma, Refugees, and Words
I had a conversation with a former refugee earlier this week, who was clearly dealing with unprocessed trauma just hearing the word and recalling the experience.
This is an app. I get that it signifies a lot because we pay it a lot of attention.
Words still mean things in the “real world”.
You’re not really a refugee from Twitter, or in exile, even though it feels that way.
