#mastadon — Public Fediverse posts

I post much more on #Bluesky than #Mastadon, and I think it’s pretty uncontroversial to say that the average user experience is easier on Bluesky. One of the main advantages is the “different server” experience is invisible to the average user, who doesn’t even know what #atproto is.

But increasingly I’ve noticed that’s a drawback too — some PDSes produce way more spam, or are less secure (to the same result) but the average user just blames Bluesky the company for the spam they are seeing.

Is there anyone anywhere tasked with growing the user base of #Fediverse apps?

Marketing Idea:
Create a series of posts, memes or videos where real people share their positive experiences with #Mastadon, #Pixelfed, #PeerTube, #Loops, #Lemmy, #Friendica, etc. - like the example below. Then post those ad nauseum on the equivalent services: X, BlueSky, Threads, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Meta, etc. Think of it like a guerrilla campaign injecting positive experiences directly into the tech bros home turf. Be relentless with the messages.

I've seen some Fediverse content on U.S. social media platforms, like videos explaining what the Fediverse is, or how to choose a server on Mastodon. But, with all respect to our technical experts (love you all), we shouldn't have nerds selling the Fediverse to non-technical social media users. People will relate to real people connecting seamlessly across different platforms - for family, for entertainment, for education.

Today, I am getting very low level with my #Thinkpad computer. I discovered I've got a 512GB #NVMe drive, as well as a #HDD drive. When I've been running the machine, it's only ever displayed 512GB available. Does that mean the HDD drive has not being initialised this whole time?!

Even from new I've only ever had 512gb so I don't think anything burnt out or broke.

This #mastadon #writing project I have made is proving to be useful in an unexpected way-

I now have about 1400 random pieces of writing, rants and stupid stuff I posted for video ideas now.

Granted the first half I was literally mid mental breakdown and I basically insane after a very #traumatic few years.

But that gives me even more to write and talk about, and serves as a public monument to how much pain I was in, and how hard it was to get #help

It seems like a cool place and I like this short form #writing project. It is helping me cut the fat out of my #writings in general.

I am also finding #people really like them and get I a lot of compliments, and #mastadon is lovely, but definitely more niche and smaller.

I want to share more, but haven't used #socialmedia in a decade except #Reddit which sucks.

Learning new platforms is #exhausting but I think I may have something special here.

This thread from Twitter prompted this rant (very long... sorry) on a potential solution for media in terms of how they are funded. The pay-per-article model, despite being tested over the past decade, has not taken off. I'll give my view on why that is later in this thread, but new models of journalism and new social media technologies can provide hope.
