  10. Calling Wilcox’s cartoon “unacceptable” misunderstands both satire and journalism. Political cartoons are meant to be provocative, compressed and confronting. They exaggerate power relationships to expose hypocrisy and danger, not to offer polite balance.
This cartoon does exactly that. It highlights unchecked US imperial behaviour and the hollow language of “freedom and security” used by institutions like NATO while aggression proceeds regardless. Discomfort is not a flaw, it is the point.
If a cartoon criticising military power is deemed unacceptable simply because it offends those aligned with that power, then the problem is not the cartoon. It is a shrinking tolerance for dissent and satire in public debate.

Wilcox is doing a great job.

  26. It's been hard reading the news the last week or so. I always turn to The Age opinion section first, but have no interest in reading stuff about the US president or Dutton. Or gangsters (there may be some overlap). That's been about it for the past week.

  31. The concerted and deceitful campaign against EVs continues. A feature article in The Age/SMH Business pages on Saturday includes these outdated furphies:

"Many chargers also require new smartphone apps to download, such as the NRMA or Chargefox app, before you can start charging your car. It was a good thing I had Telstra reception all along the Hume – having no reception and, therefore, being unable to charge your car would, for some, be a version of our new tech hell. " Wrong - all chargers include the ability to use an RFID card (that they provide freely). "...our new tech hell" such poor journalism.

"Range anxiety – the term for the worry that EV drivers feel about their battery’s charge being enough for a journey – is real, and considering a Melbourne to Sydney jaunt generates range anxiety on steroids." As an EV (but not Tesla) driver about to do that exact same drive next week, after having previously done Melbourne-Queensland, Melbourne-South Australia and Melbourne-Tasmania, I can attest that's complete bollocks! "..range anxiety on steroids" is emotive and hysterical and simply untrue.

I can only assume the entire article was written and/or paid for by fossil fuel interests.
