I've discovered #BorrowBox today. I don't know if all #libraries are signed up, but through those that are, if you have a libary card, you get free access to books, magazines and papers through your phone. I've spent much of today ambling through The Rugby Paper, BBC History Magazine, a couple of naff knitting magazines and now BBC Easy Food which is giving me lots of ideas for easy meals, as I've got a bit bored with meals lately. It's an incredible system.

@ronsboy67 In Ireland we have #BorrowBox a free audiobook service from our public libraries. It needs some input to broaden its available titles, but I use it regularly.

@newfangled in Ireland the library service uses #Borrowbox for ebooks and audiobooks .. Never even considered DVD or streaming !! https://kildare.borrowbox.com/

Does anyone have experience using a #Kobo device with #BorrowBox for reading ebooks. I have looked around on the web and it seems you need an Adobe ID (really just hate adobe) and the process seems just...arcane. What am I missing? Is Kobo incompatible? Tried PressReader on #Borrowbox through the library - it seems to have only gutty newspapers; I tried "borrowing" today's Irish Independent but got "loan apps error: unexpected"

Went to the local library this morning. They said my card had been deactivated, which caused #BorrowBox to stop working. All good again. They told me that six others had popped in this morning with the same issue.

Finished "the sanctuary" yesterday (good book) and am now listening to this which I really like! "The word is murder" by Anthony horowitz. Horowitz is actually one of the main characters in this book. He has a Watson like role and the detective, a man called hawthorn, is Holmes like in many ways. He can deduce a lot of things by noticing little details and doesn't talk about his personal life.

I’ve seen a few posts over the last couple of weeks about how to get away from the #Amazon environment. Many #mastodon users are likely already people who have fled from one evil empire or another. ;-)

I too have been trying to remove myself from Amazons ecosystem as much as possible over the last year, especially since a lot of my reading was done via #Audible and #Kindle and my reviews through #Goodreads

#StoryGraph , A bit less cluncky than Goodreads and has an app that works, some insightful stats and graphs about your reading habits, and certainly better recommendations. And unlike Goodreads, this is being improved continuously

Almost all the books Amazon Kindle has as well, plus that one especially nice feature that Kobo devices have #OverDrive built right in — allowing you to check out free library #ebooks directly from your device.
