River otter patrolling the coast in Baynes Sound last week. The photo is dark because it was at sunrise. There is a lot of river otters on Vancouver Island. I rarely see them in rivers, mostly on the coast.

I photographed this river otter last year in March during the herring spawn. It was rubbing its back on a boulder. Probably had a belly full of herring. Looked very healthy and happy.

I've tried to pass on my enthusiasm for nature and wildlife to my Grandson without forcing him to share my interest. I'm hoping he (and his friend) will remember tonight when, after a shaky start, we saw a family of Beaver (2 adults and this year's kit). If he doesn't I will 😂

We went to hike up Blue Hill. It’s been quite a while….

The river otter who lives at the foot of the hill, in one of the MassAudubon’s unreleasable wildlife enclosures, was already tucked in her crib indoors, and we missed seeing her today! She now has a better space as they rebuilt it last year. Well, I have many photos of her, and this is one of my favs.

Two river otters. I saw something that didn't quite look like a beaver duck below the water and eventually got an eye on them. Poor quality photos but I'm sure it's not baby ogopogos that escaped down the river.

I am happily flummoxed I got decent photos of these dear river otters that approached me curiously today! I was so awed and flustered I spent the 30 seconds of their closest approach staring, hoping they weren’t trying to warn me off, and absolutely forgetting to use the iPhone I’d fished out of my pocket (as they were by then too close for my zoom lens!)

I wasn’t even 100% sure whether there were 3 heads or 4 in that shifting Celtic knot of otters!
