In 1973 my Grandad took me on a trip behind ‘Flying Scotsman’.
Today, I passed on the tradition with H. We had a fantastic outing despite the delays (caused by the hot weather). Some of the photos are his.

My Grandson was desperate to see some Lizards but after a couple of disappointing expeditions on the main island I searched t'internet and discovered that on a small island (Sa Dragonera) there was a population of the endemic Lilford's Wall Lizard.
My Grandson was so pleased he says it was his favourite day of the holiday.

My Grandson had to look after me today and I thought I would treat him to his first wildlife boat trip into Lyme Bay. To say it worked out well is an understatement. Short-beaked Common Dolphin right beside the boat (his face when he saw his first one is already a treasured memory), Harbour Porpoise further away and a Grey Seal as well as Gannet, Guillemot and Balearic Shearwater. I've tried to pass on my enthusiasm for nature and wildlife to my Grandson without forcing him to share my interest. I'm hoping he (and his friend) will remember tonight when, after a shaky start, we saw a family of Beaver (2 adults and this year's kit). If he doesn't I will 😂

Luke Jerram’s “Mars: War and Peace” has arrived in Exeter Cathedral. H and I visited the predecessors (“Museum of the Moon” and “Gaia”) but I have to say that the day’s end light made a difference.
I particularly like the third photo - it looks as though Mars has materialised in the Cathedral like some weird Sci-fi film.
