Yesterday - managed to get the fam. here without losing anyone or any luggage.
Today - H woke me up at 06:30 to sit on the balcony 🙄😂
We saw a bat species, House Sparrow, Grey Heron and Audouin’s Gull. And a dead Gecko (?) (Which H wanted to keep 😂). #Granddadery #Birds #Birding #MallorcaBirding

26 years ago, to celebrate redundancy, I took a trip to NYC. It was very cold so I bought a pea coat which came with a free woollen hat. I’ve never told anyone this.

We saw a nicely marked male Adder and Dartford Warbler on a Pebblebed Heath; the film 'Paddington in Peru' at the moving picture house then came home to play Minecraft and watch the first Paddington film.
All in all, a good day.
A morning spent with the Grandaughter and a visit to the #RAMM in #Exeter.
I saw #MontyPython being filmed in Cowick Street as I cycled to the station (photo 3). Nice that the City’s Peregrines are featured. And, of course, Gerald.
My Grandson’s 3rd game at SJP - his 1st on the Big Bank. Had a great time especially as his favourite player Milli Alli came up and spoke to him before the game. What a team, what a Club.
City won 1-0 against a big, physical #Charlton.

Earlier this evening I persuaded my Grandson and Granddaughter to howl at the moon - I've no idea what their neighbours thought was happening 😂 .
Then, later, I watched the Shrewsbury v Exeter game at SJP and went home happy with the result. Even happier when I realised that the moon was still visible - beautiful sight.

Last evening, whilst waiting in #Exeter city centre on domestic taxi duties, this #Jay flew in looking for somewhere to stash food. Such beautiful colours. Even my Grandson was pleased!

My Grandson was desperate to see some Lizards but after a couple of disappointing expeditions on the main island I searched t'internet and discovered that on a small island (Sa Dragonera) there was a population of the endemic Lilford's Wall Lizard.
My Grandson was so pleased he says it was his favourite day of the holiday.

When I were a lad, I used to live getting them (and if I’m being honest, I still do). Anyway heading home after a family holiday and some very limited birding.
My Grandson had to look after me today and I thought I would treat him to his first wildlife boat trip into Lyme Bay. To say it worked out well is an understatement. Short-beaked Common Dolphin right beside the boat (his face when he saw his first one is already a treasured memory), Harbour Porpoise further away and a Grey Seal as well as Gannet, Guillemot and Balearic Shearwater. I've tried to pass on my enthusiasm for nature and wildlife to my Grandson without forcing him to share my interest. I'm hoping he (and his friend) will remember tonight when, after a shaky start, we saw a family of Beaver (2 adults and this year's kit). If he doesn't I will 😂

I have a postcard of Van Gogh’s “At Eternity’s Gate” on my desk.
My Grandaughter saw it and asked “why is he crying?”.
I asked her why she thought he was crying.
“Because he’s lost his dinosaur”.
Priceless. I won’t be able to look at it again in the same light.
Luke Jerram’s “Mars: War and Peace” has arrived in Exeter Cathedral. H and I visited the predecessors (“Museum of the Moon” and “Gaia”) but I have to say that the day’s end light made a difference.
I particularly like the third photo - it looks as though Mars has materialised in the Cathedral like some weird Sci-fi film.

A visit to Kent’s Cavern in Torquay was a hit with H - much fascination with stories of cave bears, Hyena and several thoughts about a stalactite growing out the top of his head 😂
A planned bird watching session was stymied because of rain so an afternoon of Minecraft instead. So in a way, a day spent underground 😂 Marvellous.

Hmmm, it seems the last pages of my birder’s notebook have been ‘borrowed’. I wonder who the culprit was?
An exciting mix of #birdwatching and #Granddadery today. First thing, news came out of a Melodious Warbler on the coast at #Exmouth #Devon (thanks to the finder, Matt). I headed down there and after 40 minutes the bird emerged from a hedge and gave us great views. A ‘lifer’ for me 👏🏻
Then the two Grandchildren arrived to stay for a couple of nights. Minecraft, Winnie the Pooh featured heavily 😃. Time for some rest and recuperation!
H had a good year at school and now gets to look after Buddy and Buzz (red eyes). They’re his first pets.
I met them today.
