The song of a Tree Pipit always makes my heart grow lighter.
They were out in force this morning, I reckon at least five on a Common not far from Exeter. On the way back to the car park, a pair of Dartford Warbler emerged from their skulkiness and then Dave B pulled his weight by spotting some Crossbill 😂

I had to go to the Isle of Wight today....I went via Wareham in the hopes of seeing the Red-spotted Bluethroat. It was a beautiful experience - it was singing and calling less than 10ft away at times. As if that wasn't enough - a Red Squirrel on IoW!!!

Other highlights of the #Dartmoor trip were good sightings of an aerial battle between two Cuckoo, Wheatear and Skylark.

Always nice when something unexpected turns up .... on Sunday, Mr @exebirder.bsky.social Dave B and I were following the call of a newly-arrived Cuckoo when we heard the unmistakable reeling of of a newly-arrived Grasshopper Warbler. After a slow process of stop, wait and listen we found the bird.

Before the Forster's Tern, I spent a fabulous 3 hours on a Birds of Poole Harbour Spring Safari boat trip around Poole Harbour. Thoroughly recommend it. 2 White-tailed Eagle and over 40 species of bird in total. Loved it. #UKBirding #Birds #Dorset #Poole #nature #wildlife

Thanks to some great detective work by mate Dave B (asking a local where we could view a distant flock of Tern), we ended up not 60 feet away from the fabulous Forster's Tern in Holes Bay, Poole, #Dorset. Even I could not mess the video up!!!
