"The nonprofit says it faced an impossible decision after losing $2 million in #Medicaid funding under a new federal law. That means 800 patients in #Aroostook and #Hancock counties will now need to find new primary care providers.
"The law bans health providers who also offer #abortions from being reimbursed by Medicaid.
“ 'The cruel and dangerous law has put us in an impossible situation,' President and CEO George Hill said in a written statement. 'Discharging and turning away vulnerable patients strikes at the very heart of MFP’s reputation as a trusted community provider that has been able to serve patients of any means for more than 50 years.'
"As a result, #MaineFamilyPlanning says they've been providing primary care to Medicaid patients in #EllsworthME, #HoultonME, and #PresqueIsleME free of charge since July."

Updated 10:33 AM EDT, August 21, 2025"Dr. James Dobson, a politically influential child psychologist who started a radio show counseling Christians on how to be good parents, founded the conservative ministry Focus on the Family and was long a campaigner against #abortion and #LGBTQ+ rights, died on Thursday. He was 89.
"His death was confirmed by the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute.
"Dobson started Focus on the Family in 1977, which had more than 1,000 employees at its peak and gave him a platform to weigh in on legislation, advise White House panels and advocate against laws to ban #ConversionTherapy to 'cure' gay people.
"He became a force in the 1980s for pushing conservative Christian ideals in American politics alongside fundamentalist giants like #JerryFalwell and #PatRobertson. He campaigned for bringing religious conservatives into the political mainstream, and in 1989, Falwell called Dobson a rising star. Decades later, he served on President #DonaldTrump ’s Evangelical Executive Advisory Board."

He was 89.
"His death was confirmed by the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute.
"Dobson started Focus on the Family in 1977, which had more than 1,000 employees at its peak and gave him a platform to weigh in on legislation, advise White House panels and advocate against laws to ban #ConversionTherapy to 'cure' gay people.
"He became a force in the 1980s for pushing conservative Christian ideals in American politics alongside fundamentalist giants like #JerryFalwell and #PatRobertson. He campaigned for bringing religious conservatives into the political mainstream, and in 1989, Falwell called Dobson a rising star. "The 6-3 opinion by Justice Neil Gorsuch and joined by the rest of the court’s conservatives was not directly about abortion, but it comes as Republicans back a wider push across the country to defund the organization. It closes off Planned Parenthood’s primary court path to keeping Medicaid funding in place: patient lawsuits.
"The justices found that while Medicaid law allows people choose their own provider, that does not make it a right enforceable in court. The court split along ideological lines, with the three liberals dissenting in the case from #SouthCarolina.
"Public health care money generally cannot be used to pay for abortions, but Medicaid patients go to Planned Parenthood for other needs in part because it can be difficult to find a doctor who takes the publicly funded insurance, the organization has said.
"South Carolina Gov. #HenryMcMaster, a Republican [and asshole], said Planned Parenthood should not get any taxpayer money. The budget bill backed by President Donald Trump in Congress would also cut Medicaid money for the group. That could force the closure of about 200 centers, most of them in states where abortion is legal, Planned Parenthood has said."
