#FocusOnTheFamily was a constant part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Part of the atmospheric brainwashing that told my mother to be happy making Motherhood her entire identity, that sin not illness was the cause of her #depression and that all the problems of her children were her fault. I was thinking about this - FotF - this week, didn’t realize #JamesDobson died. Delayed karmic retribution for all mothers fed his BS. I hope he’s getting drop-kicked in the nuts, wherever he is now.

Updated 10:33 AM EDT, August 21, 2025"Dr. James Dobson, a politically influential child psychologist who started a radio show counseling Christians on how to be good parents, founded the conservative ministry Focus on the Family and was long a campaigner against #abortion and #LGBTQ+ rights, died on Thursday. He was 89.
"His death was confirmed by the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute.
"Dobson started Focus on the Family in 1977, which had more than 1,000 employees at its peak and gave him a platform to weigh in on legislation, advise White House panels and advocate against laws to ban #ConversionTherapy to 'cure' gay people.
"He became a force in the 1980s for pushing conservative Christian ideals in American politics alongside fundamentalist giants like #JerryFalwell and #PatRobertson. He campaigned for bringing religious conservatives into the political mainstream, and in 1989, Falwell called Dobson a rising star. Decades later, he served on President #DonaldTrump ’s Evangelical Executive Advisory Board."

Consider #FocusOnTheFamily. They advised that you beat your children, treat them as if they're not people but inmates in your home, among a truly spectacular smorgasbord of other toxic dogma.
Now they're trying to sell you ways to guilt and manipulate your adult children, who you BEAT, into giving you the attention you feel you deserve.
It's truly an astounding racket.

It turns out, Glenn Branch of the NCSE spent some time in 2014 hunting down the sources of this claim. It is a fascinating read, but it may suffice to say that the 51 facts are just another lie spread by incurious anti-science crusaders.

There is claim that repeatedly pops up in #creationist writing about how the “French Academy of Science” in 1861 published a list of 51 scientific facts that disproved the Bible. The claim continues that all 51 of those facts have now been debunked. This claim never includes any citation or list of what those 51 facts supposedly were.
