The whole reason why pointing out errors in the case, miscarriages of justice, incompetence from the police, poorly equipped public defenders, etc, doesn't do anything for these rabid #deathpenalty supporters in the #gop is that they just see all that as bonuses.
They just think "good, then people will behave even MORE in line if they're afraid of even being mistaken in a crime". Anyone in the justice system MUST deserve it, because GOOD people don't do anything that even looks suspicious, in their minds. That it was a black Muslim man is another bonus in their minds. Said fears will be even greater in that community.

Every instance of a horror, executions of obviously innocent people, police murders, bombing fleeing civilians, orders to return to work that only accelerate climate change, etc ad nauseam, are just examples of what the Milgram experiment showed. Leaders are removed from violence and believe that they are "simply following the market," "enacting the law," or "maintaining the global order." They are wise business people, or shrewd politicians, not unconscionable monsters. For them, the personal violence we see is just a set of statistics. The human mind can't comprehend being personally responsible for the deaths of thousands or millions of people, for mass extinction, or for the collapse of complex human society.
Individuals tasked with carrying out whatever incidence of violence feel powerless and "just follow orders." They don't experience the scale of violence. They would simply be replaced if they refuse, and they are simply enacting the will of a direct authority.
The closer to violence, the more pressure the authority exerts, the farther from the effects of the violence (the more abstract the violence) the easier it is to carry out.
This #MarcellusWilliams, #Gaza, #ClimateCrisis, the 2008 Financial crisis, #ReturnToOffice, and every other small and great horror perpetrated against society as a whole by .001% of the population against the rest of us.
There is no electoral solution to any of these problems. People at the top have vested interest in perpetuating them. Elected leaders own stock in weapons and oil companies, and private prisons. They own commercial real estate and have their assets managed by private equity firms. They need the police to protect them (they're the only ones the police really ever existed to protect and serve). They need to maintain the illusion in order to maintain their wealth and power.
The solution to all of these issues is instead for those of us experiencing and carrying out the violence to see our own power and to resist. We have to be aware of the psychological principles at play and we have to actively resist them. We have to organize ourselves and our society in a way that we cannot be manipulated by a few people with generations of power who have been trained to express only sadism.
We have to understand concepts like deindividualization and dehumanization, undermine hierarchy and opposite unjust systems, and we have to be mindful of and take responsibility for our place in those systems. Most importantly, we have to make sure other people are aware and explain to people who don't know *why* these systems manifest these behaviors.
Agitation is the first step to organizing, so agitate like hell.

CW: USPol News: Marcellus Williams Executed
#MarcellusWilliams, a black man imprisoned for the alleged murder of a white woman, was #executed against the wishes of the victim's husband, despite clear mistrial claims, lack of solid evidence, and credible claims of innocence. He was 31 when he was first convicted by an all-white jury in 2001.
This was after a party-line 3 to 5 ruling by the #SCOTUS, and years of denied appeals, requests for reexamination or stay of execution ignored by the Attourney General and Governor of #Missouri.
This is how #politics affects the individual. Republican president Donald Trump was voted in and appointed 3 of the judges who denied the final appeal, the Republican Governor and Attorney General of Missouri were voted in and worked to hasten the execution.
