Heute waren wir mit über 500 Menschen zusammen für Feminismus und sexuelle Selbstbestimmung auf der Straße und haben starken Widerstand gegen den 1000-Kreuze-Marsch gezeigt! ✊🌈
Die radikalen Abtreibungsgegner*innen liefen gemeinsam mit der Burschenschaft Franconia, die bekannt für ihre Verbindungen zu AfD und Identitären Bewegung ist sowie mit der Gruppe „Tradition, Familie, Privateigentum“. Unter dem Deckmantel des „Lebensschutzes“ verbreiteten sie ein reaktionäres, antifeministisches und queerfeindliches Weltbild.
Die Polizei hat es für nötig gehalten, gleich zu Beginn des Gegenprotest des Bündnis für sexuelle Selbstbestimmung (@prochoice_ms) die Flyer zu kontrollieren, ob wir diese überhaupt austeilen dürfen.. Die Demo begann in der Windhorstraße, wo ein Erfahrungsbericht von einem Schwangerschaftsabbruch vorgelesen wurde. Dieser hat klar gemacht, wie prekär die Lage für die Betroffenen ist. Auch ein Redebeitrag zum Thema Schwangerschaftsabbrüche von Sexarbeiter*innen, hat klar gezeigt, dass es auch hier wichtig ist, ungewollt Schwangeren sichere Abbrüche zu ermöglichen. Danach zog die Demo lautstark durch die Innenstadt bis zur Abschlusskundgebung am Prinzipalmarkt.
Die Tradition des 1000-Kreuze-Marsches, die Statue von Kardinal von Galen für ihre Anti-Abtreibungsrechte-Reden zu instrumentalisieren, wurde dieses Jahr gebrochen. Stattdessen blieb der Durchgang zum Dom durch den Gegenprotest den Fundamentalist*inen versperrt. Zudem gab es einen Infostand für Selbstbestimmung, Feminismus und Vielfalt – gegen Fundamentalismus, Sexismus und Rechtsruck.

In Alabama - where there’s a total abortion ban - the rate of infant mortality is skyrocketing.
“It spiked to 7.8 deaths per 1,000 live births – up from 6.7 in 2022 – with 449 newborns dying before reaching their first birthday”
Lawmakers seem to only care about the fetus until its birth (if they ever cared at all).
Once the baby is born - they couldn’t care less what happens to it (or its mother).
People are being forced to carry pregnancies they can’t mentally, physically or financially handle. They aren’t given proper pre-natal care. Many can’t access care at all.
What possible benefit is there to forcing people to carry babies to term - only to let them die soon afterwards?
You’re risking the life of the mother AND baby unnecessarily - and then you turn around and claim to be “pro life”
These bans are the opposite of pro-life.
They’re costing lives. They’re causing untold amounts of trauma. They can also cause medical emergencies that impact a person’s future ability to get pregnant.
They can disproportionately harm disabled people who may have additional reasons for not being able to safely carry a pregnancy to term
They can also result in people becoming trapped in abusive relationships and situations - because they are too sick/pregnant to leave.
Abortion IS healthcare. Bodily autonomy should be a human right for all.

This is what I remember (and I'm old enough to remember). Abortion was mostly a Catholic issue, and the Evangelicals could give a crap. But then they realized that #RacialSegregation wasn't possible, so they decided to try and control womens' bodies instead!

How #RonaldReagan Helped #Abortion Take Over the# Republican Agenda

April 12, 2024 9:00 AM EDT"Even as late as the 1980s, Ronald Reagan’s #GOP prioritized cutting taxes, reducing the size of government, and winning the Cold War, devoting little energy to fighting cultural battles. But despite this lack of enthusiasm, Reagan was instrumental in empowering a cultural and social #conservatism with roots in the #WhiteSouth. This cultural conservatism now dominates the Republican Party and drives the war against abortion rights in 2024.
"Historically, the GOP was the more liberal party on abortion — especially given the #DemocraticParty’s strong appeal to Catholics across the North. That began to change in the early 1970s, as various states loosened their abortion restrictions. At the national level, a Republican shift on abortion first became evident during Reagan’s dramatic 1976 primary challenge against President Gerald Ford.
"After losing the first five presidential primaries, #NorthCarolina became a must win for Reagan. He entrusted his campaign in the Tar Heel State to the North Carolina Congressional Club — the political machine of Senator Jesse Helms. A former Democrat, Helms had only joined the GOP six years earlier. He and his lieutenants devised a campaign centered on social and cultural issues, and Reagan stunned the incumbent president by six points.
"The victory rescued Reagan's campaign, and demonstrated his popularity with southern conservative voters, donors, and strategists — many, like Helms, recently converted Democrats — who relished Reagan’s anti-statist rhetoric and despised Ford as an establishment moderate. As his campaign struggled to break through in the North, it was southern support that propelled Reagan all the way to the party convention in Kansas City. His Southern success gave Reagan’s backers significant influence as the GOP met to select a nominee and draft a platform.
"At a pre-convention meeting, Helms and his allies formulated a range of right-wing policy positions that they wanted to force into the GOP platform. Alongside opposition to #GunControl and school busing to achieve #RacialIntegration, these southern Republicans demanded that their new party explicitly oppose #LegalAbortion. Reagan, though far more focused on economic issues and foreign policy, owed so much of his success to Helms and his political machine that he reluctantly green-lighted their platform challenges."
