I never used USB ethernet #tethering on my #Librem5 before, but now I do, and it works flawless with my #Fedora laptop:

What a huge improvement! Could you post a full image at it's original, full resolution? I'd love to see what just a default jpg comes out looking like at it's full resolution.

Regarding the price see: https://mastodon.social/@janvlug/116510085888567116
There are no is no monthly fee for the #Librem5 itself. You can use it with the provider of your choice.
You can take a totally optional #PureOS subscription though: https://puri.sm/posts/pureos-optional-subscription-added-to-advance-development/ Such subscription will help funding the advancement of PureOS. Which in the end will also help the #MobileLinux eco system.

@mihamarkic Yes, but the FOSS itself is not hosted. If you use for example #PureOS you just install it on your phone (or other device). It is self hosted on your device, so not under US jurisdiction.
So, using a US cloud provider means US jurisdiction, which I also do not want to fall under for my data.
But for example, I self host #Nextcloud, and use that with PureOS on my #Librem5 (and other computers). This is perfectly fine even regarding the fact that PureOS is not EU based.

@FrostDaemon I cannot answer this question for you. I live in the Netherlands. But here is a page of supported mobile providers for the #Librem5:

You can use Android apps with #Wayland on the #Librem5. But personally, I have no experience with Wayland.
For navigation (#openstreetmap based), I use #PureMaps (https://flathub.org/en/apps/io.github.rinigus.PureMaps) and just looking at GNOME maps (https://flathub.org/en/apps/org.gnome.Maps).
Indeed, it is like using whatever could run on the #Linux desktop. Ideally, adaptive applications:

Wow. Good to hear. I have patience, and I can handle inconvenience to have freedom. And the inconvenience regarding the connectivity loss nowadays is very minor.
Thanks for all your work, every update the #Librem5 is getting better, highly appreciated!

@khleedril I use Signal Desktop on the #Librem5, installed as #flatpak (unofficial).
Apparently, @signalapp is working towards having Signal Desktop fully independent of the Android and iOS apps.

@jelv See: https://social.librem.one/@dos/116504389152073858
Personally, I charge the #Librem5 whenever possible. I have suspend enabled. I charge the phone at night. This enough for me, but it is less than Android or Apple phones.
-
@janneke This is a difficult question to answer. First of all, I only really know the #Librem5. Furthermore, you can be tracked via the browser, via connection to telephone antenna's, Wifi and Bluetooth and probably more.
The Librem 5 has kill switches to physically switch of wifi, gsm, camera, and microphone.

@Kerplunk Unfortunately the #Librem5 is expensive. Purism has to earn all on the hardware sell. Purism is not gathering data, or pre-installing privacy invasive apps on their devices.
It is possible to support the PureOS development though:
https://puri.sm/posts/pureos-optional-subscription-added-to-advance-development/
But that would cost you even more.
From the other side, the devices have longer support than the average Android phone.
Maybe you can try to get a second hands device via:

@codo I do not use PWA's myself, but I know that there is some work being done in this area:
https://source.puri.sm/search?search=pwa&nav_source=navbar&group_id=22032&scope=issues
The battery is enough for me, I charge the #Librem5 usually whenever I have the possibility, so I cannot give details. It is way less than modern Android or Apple phones though. I use suspend.
Phone calls and SMS is reliable for me. I live in the Netherlands.
Maybe it woud be interesting to give your Librem 5 another try:
https://docs.puri.sm/Hardware/Librem_5/Maintenance/Reflashing.html
Make sure to flash Crimson.

I realize that yesterday it was exactly four years ago that I started the experiment to use the #Librem5 #Linux #phone as my daily phone.
I have been using it since then, and the software is being improved regularly and in a very transparent way.
Read here about the beginning of this experiment: https://janvlug.org/blog/one-week-librem-5-field-trial-day-1/
#MobileLinux #DigitalSovereignty #FOSS #OpenSource #Purism
Would you be interested in a blog with an update of the current state of the Librem 5?
-
Since 2022-05-01. I wrote a blog about this, when I started it as a experiment.
https://janvlug.org/blog/one-week-librem-5-field-trial-day-1/
Thanks for asking. I realize now that it was yesterday exactly four years ago.
The software has been improving since then, and it is still improving. The release of the next version of #PureOS for the #Librem5 with the name #Crimson is imminent.

@dademurphy What am I walled of from? Actually Google and especially Apple build the walls.
My #freedom on the #Librem5 is that I can install any software I want. Nearly all software I use can be freely inspected, changed, reused and distributed. @purism, the manufacturer is not applying any methods to limit the usage of the #phone produced by them.

"Where to buy a non-Apple, non-Google smartphone"
https://www.theregister.com/2026/05/01/buy_a_foss_fondleslab/
I use a #Librem5 #Linux #phone. With the default #PureOS operating system.
Enjoy your #freedom, break free from #Google and #Apple.
Have a full Linux computer in your pocket that you can also use for calling.
Questions? Ask me.

Does anyone know of the general development of #navigation software for #mobile #Linux devices like the #Librem5 ?
#PureMaps somehow runs, but it is not a great experience performance wise and the development is not super active anymore. I saw a discussion once that #OrganicMaps also tries to make a mobile Linux version, but I can't find any update there either. Are there any plans for #GnomeMaps to add navigation features?
