  2. #Linux #kernel 6.18.49 on #Librem5 phone from #Purism.

More that nine years ago @purism started a #crowdfunding for the #privacy, #security, and #freedom focused Linux #phone.

The software is still actively maintained. An upgrade to #PureOS #Dawn, which will be based on #Debian #Trixie is in the works.

I use the Librem 5 as my daily phone for more than four years.

Which other phone manufacturer provides software updates for their phones this long?

  3. The monthly #PureOS development report for July is available:

    puri.sm/posts/pureos-developme

It describes forking, carrying on and coming together again of PureOS and #Debian.

The upcoming PureOS release, #Dawn, will be based on Debian #Trixie.

PureOS is the operating system for @purism devices, like the #Librem5 #Linux #phone. It is fine tuned for #Purism hardware.

You can support #MobileLinux by buying Purism devices or optionally paying for a PureOS subscription.

  4. I’m starting to look into options to begin migrating away from MacBook and iPhone as my daily drivers in the semi-near future. What are thoughts on #Purism, #PureOS, and (specifically) the #Librem5? Are there any better recommendations?

    puri.sm/posts/pureos-developme

The blog reports the development for PureOS in June 2026.

"With the development pipeline in full swing, we’re updating some of the cornerstone components of PureOS for #Dawn. Phosh and phoc are both updated to 0.55.0, the latest Phosh release in June..."

  8. @mindaugas @sealnose @itsfoss The two aren't really comparable, as #Purism finances it's #FreeSoftware PureOS distro which works on their computers and phones, #FOSS drivers and #Pureboot development and upstreams the work so other #gnuLinux distros and users can also benefit.

Thanks to all who worked on this or contributed in any other way, like being a totally optional PureOS subscriber: puri.sm/posts/pureos-optional-

  10. @Scubyw

I assume you are referring to the operating system? That is #PureOS. In the past #Purism also sold the Librem mini, a small form-factor mini-PC.

Might be. That's not the only and single optimization option. Best would probably be to neither use Android (be it GrapheneOS or /e/is or lineageOS or whatever) nor iOS, but something real open with open software on open hardware produced without any suppression in the delivery chain. Welcome to heaven. Maybe #Purism could be interesting. While not being in heaven, you may choose the direction of optimization. There is not the one truth.

  13. In @purism their Crimson you will have working notifications on your lock screen from your applications!

The apps will also get a homescreen icon to launch without the full UI,

    This is HUGE!

  14. "On #PureOS and #Librem devices, developers are not required to prove their identity. No government ID is demanded. No centralized developer registry decides who is allowed to publish. Instead, inclusion is based on technical and ethical criteria: free/libre software, public source code, and respect for user #privacy and #freedom."

  15. I upgraded my #Librem5 to PureOS Crimson.
Does anyone else experience slower app start times, and additionally I can only watch YouTube videos in 144p resolution. Usually 360p was definitely fluent.
    Is this a known issue?

On the positive side of things:
    - Camera is waaay better! It is a really solid camera now.
    - Battery performance is better for me
    - UI looks better in most places
    - Fully functional dark mode
