  2. Wildflowers are thriving where other plants can't – cities.

"Arable land is heavily managed, and everything that's not a crop is taken out"

We need to accept a bit of wildness and untidiness. We can't exist as humans alone; we're part of nature and we need to let nature in – Nadine Mitschunas

  6. “A new study found when people moved from less walkable U.S. cities to more walkable ones, they increased their levels of physical activity and saw health benefits.” The design of cities can help us be healthier. We’ve actually known that for quite a while. #HealthyCities www.cbc.ca/player/play/...

  7. What if we designed cities, and the land-uses, densities, services and infrastructure that make them what they are, so that daily activity and exercise was just an ordinary, “invisible” part of every day life? It’s actually not that hard. We just have to change our priorities. #HealthyCities

  9. What if we designed our cities, and the land-uses, densities & infrastructure that make them what they are, so that daily activity and exercise was just a normal, ordinary, almost “invisible” part of every day life? It’s actually not that hard. We just have to change our priorities. #HealthyCities

  10. Automobile dependency is killing the livability of our cities. There is no long term solution to traffic besides creating viable alternatives to driving.

Stop expanding highways. Start installing public transit and bikeways.

  12. A fabulous piece in The Conversation @TheConversationUK by my UCL colleague Haim Yacobi arguing that healthy cities need better public spaces rather than less boring buildings thus also debunking the recent manifesto by British designer Thomas Heatherwick who claimed that boring buildings were at the heart of the problem of contemporary architecture and cities

  13. Via Dutch Cycling Embassy: Today the speed limit on 80% of the roads in Amsterdam will be lowered to a maximum of 30km/h!

    The city expects:
    ✅ 20 to 30% fewer serious accidents
✅ traffic noise will be cut in half
✅ a safer and relaxed travel for everybody

  14. At UC Davis, the campus is full of inaccessible cycle racks. Despite being made aware of this numerous times, UC Davis TAPS doubles down on ordering the same rack design for new buildings.

There are few para-athletics teams (even intramural). Abled people can rent outdoor adventure equipment at UC Davis, but there's no adaptive recreation equipment for rent.

Addressing sedentarism without addressing ableism severely limits who can have fun and maintain good health.

    Too few folks in #Urbanism
join disabled people in fighting for this equity.
