I'm trying to put together a #NAS based on the #IceWhale #ZimaCube2, and (spoiler) having a hell of a time finding #HardDrives for the #RAID array. Can you #HomeServer types recommend anything (honestly I'm flexible on most parameters, even size, given that I only "need" a few TB rn), other than waiting for the upcoming datacenter bubblepocalypse, which I'm guessing will cause prices to crater the instant after I fork over my hard-earned cash at the peak... 😭💭💾💸

I write insane amounts of data to my scratch drives (AI models, VMs, you name it). Currently, that is an SSD. I have worn a few below 100%. And since I don't have enough kidneys to sell for more SSDs, I'm trying something kind of retro.
I ordered a USB 3.2 DAS, and will load it with 4x 1TB WD VelociRaptor HDDs. This in RAID0 should give me near 1 gigabyte per second, plenty for the purpose. HDDs don't "wear out" from writing. (EDIT: as fast).
And the sound will be splendid 😁 Stay tuned.

Buying #used #hdd or #harddrives are like #buying a #mysterybox only bc ppl rarely fully #erase their #drives. This is only a #memory from the #past but when I actually did #buy #hdds off of #ebay. I #found some #porn not deleted, #family #pictures not deleted, #weirdporn #deleted but I #recovered out of #curosity sake. 😂 There was one which was a bunch of #cat #pics.
Also if you #selling your HDDs do #delete the #data #clean off. There's a ton of porn you don't want your #customers seeing 😂😂
