TrueNAS keeps removing functionality for fuck sake, this was really fucking useful now I've gotta stand up and entire PKI architecture for all my self-hosted shit or deal with constant SSL errors

This might sound crazy to the TrueNAS Scale developers, but I'd like to be able to view the logs for an application after it has stopped, y'know so I can determine why it stopped, especially when it has crashed.

Does anyone know what service TrueNas Scale uses for networking?
It doesn't seem to be using NetworkManager or networkd, is it some home-grown thing? Is it something else?

@estevez @betoniusz I'm following a similar path: jonsbo n2 with an Intel n305 motherboard from cwwk (Topton n18 would also work).
I haven't decided the OS yet. #TruenasScale or a build it myself approach with #Debian...
Stealing disks from your #synologynas sounds like music to my ears.

Hallo, #ITBubble. Hat jemand schon auf #TrueNasScale 25.04 geupgraded? Geht das reibungslos? #selfhosting

#truenasscale fangtooth, the latest stable release, contains an explicit note that the new hypervisor is experimental and incompatible with the old one.
Fangtooth brings a stable version of optimised block deduplication, which was experimental in the last stable version.
It is looking like 'stable' now means 'one experimental feature'. Not cool.

#TrueNAS 25.04 Released For Unifying SCALE & CORE Offerings
TrueNAS 25.04 is notable for unifying their #Linux-based #TrueNASSCALE and #TrueNASCORE #FreeBSD-based platforms. While TrueNAS was previously known for its BSD base, Linux has proven viable for this network attached storage platform. TrueNAS 25.04 is powered by the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel while employing the #OpenZFS file-system support.

Well, #trueNasScale upgrade to 24.10/electricEel was mostly uneventful!
Two things didn't work:
- qBittorrent, but I'd configured NPM wrong, fat fingers 🙄
- tailscale, reinstalled it and it worked fine 🤷♂️ -
The upcoming #TrueNASScale release comes with #Incus built-in so I took it for a spin to see how the integration was done!

One Update of truenas later (ok, to the 25.04 RC): neither proper display size updates nor copy and paste sync do work anymore. Oh well, back to figuring that out...

#TrueNAS 25.04 "Fangtooth" Beta Unifies#Linux SCALE & #FreeBSD CORE Efforts
It was released on Thursday as another step toward unifying #TrueNASCORE derived from FreeBSD and Linux-based #TrueNASSCALE.
TrueNAS 25.04 "Fantooth" is an upgrade for TrueNAS SCALE 24.10 and TrueNAS CORE 13.x. TrueNAS 25.04 beta is powered by the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel, makes use of OpenZFS 2.3, there is much faster #OpenZFS #RAIDZ expansion, new instances support, and a number of other features.

Is there a nice friendly/foolproof graphic interface for managing #linux ACLs? Something that shows at a glance who can access what.
I want to deploy an #immich container, but with the media folders in a place other users can access, and immich only able to access its folder. I am worried I will misconfigure it with the default #truenasscale tools.

Absolutely furious that I know my #TrueNASScale #NAS local IP Address by heart.
I was not meant to retain, let alone need such knowledge.

Ten 12TB drives and five 14TB drives in a repurposed #Intel 10th gen i9 with 18c/32t and 192GB of RAM.
Two specific pools of 80TB and 50TB all in a @45drives #HL15 build.
#TrueNASScale for the storage management.

I'm not impressed with my first foray into #TrueNAS #TrueNASSCALE last time I was on it it was called FreeNas back in 2015. That was rock solid for about 5 years before I went to something else.
Last month I installed it on a new system I built. It's been running pretty solid. Just upgraded to 24.10.0.2 last night. The entire thing went unresponsive and no video out. This morning I force rebooted the system. Looks like it's doing a dump on boot. Really doesn't speak highly to the stability of this product. Since I had a clean install and I haven't done anything funky with it's configuration. Nor are the OS drives located on anything out of the ordinary. Just a standard SATA connection on the motherboard along with the application drive also on SATA. Everything else is on a SAS HBA. -
If I use #incus directly on the Dell R530, I wonder if #truenasscale could run in a #vm. I would like to continue to have a file server and #truenas does that well enough for me.
Could I either pass through the storage to #truenas or could it use the storage in #incus (if I continue to use #zfs instead of one of the other filesystem options it has)?
-
I’m very interested in #incus and considering using it to manage #container and #vm in my #homelab. I’m currently using #truenasscale on a Dell R530. This is costly to run in terms of electricity, so I’m debating if I should move to one or more smaller/newer host devices.

#TrueNASscale #ITsupport #IT #ITbubble #selfhosting

YOLOed my upgrade to #truenasscale Electric Eel (24.10) and lost all/both of my apps. Thankfully I was delaying setting up complex apps until I'd updated - A reason to just do it. But still annoying. Anyone upgrading I urge you to read the documentation first.

Any other #Asustor #NAS users out there? I feel constrained by the ADM ecosystem and software and I've been wanting to replace it on our #AS6510T with something less under Asustor's control and more under my own, but I'm a chicken and afraid of (a) borking something or (b) losing proprietary hardware functionality.
Anyone out there in a similar situation succeeded in installing #TrueNAS Scale, in particular?

It just occured to me that naming #TrueNASSCALE distros after fish is a pun.

Ale się cieszę, że sobie TrueNASa postawiłem. Apki to jest dobra rzecz i gdyby nie HDR to już bym się przerzucił z Kodi na Jellyfin

Gave #Devuan one last go.The GNOME #protonvpn client appears to work fine in xfce! DNS and torrent leak free!
The default Thunar file manager behavior is to not mount and not give the option. A pox upon.
So, sigh, I learnt how to mount in fstab with freetext creds in /root/.filewithcreds. We does it, but we hates it.
And now everything works! That's 3 of 4 Windows VMs I can now reimplement in Linux.
And for bonus points Devuan has been my smoothest experience with the #truenasscale implementation of #Spicespace. And I like the default GUI a lot.
#devuan is a champion OS for cool people and I am done with Debian and Ubuntu forever (at least until next week).

@Slash909uk fwiw, I’m migrating everything I used to host on synology boxen to #trueNasScale, but that’s not without its challenges (and drama at the moment) re. container tech
